So sweet might get a cavity ;)
Sam was going over a chart during his break when he heard the voice of one Dr. Jones. It shocked him when he found out that she worked at this very hospital, in truth he thought he was never going to see this one woman again, but now that she worked in the same place as him he was not going to let up on her. Sure at first, he wanted just sex, but now he was so intrigued by the woman that he wanted more. He just wished that she would give him the time of the day. At first, he was going to buy that whole I have a kid thing, but he wasn't because that wasn't a good enough reason to keep him away from her. He wanted all of her, and that included her beautiful baby girl.
"You stare any harder Evans you are going to burn a hole through her," Artie said as he came up to the man.
"Yeah, well I'll have to settle for staring since she won't give me the time of day," Sam sighed.
"Awe don't feel too bad, I flirt with that woman all the time and all she does is laugh at me, and tell me I am crazy."
"Ha, that's because you are Artie."
"Well, listen Mercedes Jones is a lot of things and since I have known her, I've never known her to date or anything so if you are going to want to be around here and get to know her, it is going to be hard. Hell a lot of us don't even know how she stumbled into this town."
Sam looked at Artie confused, "What do you mean?"
"Well, it was like she popped here out of thin air, next thing you knew she bought this small house for sale, and she was working here keeping a low profile until we all started to befriend her, she is very closed to us, I think the only people who know the truth are Quinn and Santana. Look just give her time, I am sure whatever she has kept hidden is for good reason." Artie explained. Mercedes walked towards the two looking at her pager.
"Hot mama," Artie sanged out.
"What do you want Artie?" Mercedes giggled.
"You know you are scheduled to assist a cervical spine fusion at 6:30 tonight right?"
"What but that's when I get off," Mercedes said.
"I know, I know that is why I am offering to hang out with Iris in one of the call rooms until you get done. We can read books, sing, and dance, some good old-fashioned fun with Uncle Artie." Artie spoke.
"Thank you, you are a lifesaver," Mercedes spoke, "Duty calls, see you guys later." And then Mercedes walked away, Sam turned towards his sneaky new friend.
"You know that is my surgery, and that you were originally supposed to assist on it," Sam pointed out.
Artie gave him a shrug, "Maybe I just wanted to spend time with my niece, but I guess I did give you a reason to speak to Mercedes. Use it to your advantage, Evans."
Mercedes had scrubbed in for the neck surgery and had suited up and walked into the OR where she saw Sam and Quinn. Quinn was providing the anesthesia and Sam was getting his tools together.
"Dr. Jones thank you for joining in on the surgery," Sam spoke aloud looking at the woman.
"Awe no problem, but I must say you are impeding my time with my daughter," Mercedes replied ignoring Quinn stamping on her foot.
"I promise that we will be in and out, it's just a routine surgery, scouts honor."
"Ok, the patient is sedated the procedure may begin," Quinn said. Sam nodded his head and walked over grabbing his scalpel and making the incision in the proper neck spot.
Mercedes would be lying if she said that Sam's confidence was not sexy because it most definitely was, alone with other things about him. He was the perfect man, and she hadn't found men attractive since leaving Matt, but something about Sam was different. He was sexy without trying and that it was made her fall so deeply with him in the club, but bringing him in her life would put too much at stake.
"So Dr. Jones how did you become a doctor?" Sam questioned.
"I've always loved helping people, and I loved school, so the years of schooling didn't phase me, the perfect combination. What about you?" She answered.
"My mother had actually broken her leg one year playing a game of tennis with me, and I liked the way the doctors cared for her and helped with her health. I decided I wanted to have the same effect on people, being able to help people in their times of need."
"How admirable of you, where did you work before coming here?"
"I was working at this hospital in Seattle, Washington, and decided I needed to go somewhere else, so I packed all my things and moved here when the job opened up. Sooo?"
"So what?"
"How did you end up here,"
"I-I um left an unfulfilling place in my life and came here."
"Ok, I guess I let that answer slide for now. Your daughter is the most adorable thing on the planet."
Mercedes chuckled, "Yeah she's the light of my life?"
"What's her name?" Sam questioned.
"Iris Nicole Jones, I named her after the Greek Goddes Iris who was associated with rainbows, and then she was Hera's messenger."
"The perfect name, do you think you would ever have more children?"
"I don't know, I haven't found the perfect mate to have children with."
"What if that perfect mate is right in front of you," He said as he held his head up and looked at her and noticed the slight smile and blush around her cheeks.
"Then maybe they'll have to really fight to get me to recognize that," She smirked back. Sam smiled at her before stitching up the wound.
"Alright surgery is finished, Ms. Jones I think you have a little girl that needs your attention," Sam said.
"Yep, would you like to come to meet her?" Mercedes asked out of friendliness.
"I'd love to."
"Uncle Artie, that isn't the sound a cow makes," Iris giggled as she tried to read her farm book to her crazy uncle.
"Are you sure, I could have sworn they said oink?" Artie replied causing the little girl to laugh some more.
"No Uncle Artie those are pigs,"
"Ohhh, well you know Uncle Artie never really paid attention in school,"
"Artie, are you teaching my daughter what sounds animals make?" Mercedes asked as she and Sam walked into the room to find the two on one of the beds with Iris's book about animals on the bed.
"No she is teaching me, did you know that cows go moo and not oink," Artie said surprised.
"Mommy," Iris giggled," Uncle Artie thought that cows said oink."
"Mhm, Uncle Artie is crazy, but there is someone I want you to meet. This is Dr. Sam," Mercedes said as she gestured to Sam behind her.
"Hi Iris, I've heard loads about you," Sam spoke as he bent down to her eye level. Iris looked at the man with her big brown doe-like eyes, she reached up and gently tugged on one of Sam's blonde locks and he did the same with one of her kinky curls.
"Hi, Dr. Sam are you going to be working with my mommy, to help people?"
"Yep, that is exactly what I am going to be doing,"
Iris peered up at her mother, "I like him mommy he's nice." All the adults chuckled in the room at the little girl's comment.
"Ok, baby here grab your things so we can go ok, and thank you Artie for looking after her."
"No problem Mercy-Me, I'll see you three tomorrow." He replied as he grabbed his things, he placed a kiss on Iris's forehead and left the room. Mercedes went and grabbed her bags but stopped when she felt someone grab the stuff for her instead.
"Here I got it, just grab her," He said with a smile. Mercedes nodded her head and grabbed Iris as Sam walked them out of the room, and to the parking lot. Mercedes placed her daughter in the seat and grabbed the bags from Sam and put them in the car and turned towards Sam.
"Thank you, because you didn't have to do that," Mercedes began with a smile.
"Well my mother did raise me to be a gentleman," Sam retorted.
"I can't help but think that you are only being this way just to get with me," Mercedes shot back.
"Well, I am not just doing it to get you back in my bed again. I am doing it because I respect you, and I want to form a relationship with you. You are more than just a bimbo bed warmer. You are an amazing, intellectual, attractive woman, and any man should be grateful to have you in their life. You and your child." Sam said honestly. Mercedes looked at the man and couldn't detect any lies.
"How about this, how about I take you out for dinner on Friday night?" Sam suggested.
"Fine, you can pick me up at eight," Mercedes smiled.
"Good, goodnight Dr. Jones."
"Goodnight Dr. Evans,"
