Chapter 32

Author's Note : Thank you to every reader. Stay tuned.

Did you ever wonder what it would be like if you weren't you anymore? If you were suddenly gone, how would your world react?

Neither Brooke or Lucas recall clearly leaving the hospital or the drive home.

Sage and Alaska had been taken home and put to sleep already.

Which left the estanged couple to progress and grasp with the loss of their son. Together or apart.

"Are you going to find a way to blame me for this too.?" Brooke asked.

Lucas glared at her. "Is this how it's going to be between us. The tension and accustions.? We don't need to turn on each other right now."

"Jack would want us to find a way through together as a family." He proclaimed.

"He never wanted to go to college at all. We encouraged him and now look at this.?" Brooke said. With the emotion in her voice thick.

"There is no reason to wake up the kids. We'll tell them in the morning."

"This isn't something either of us. Or Jack saw coming."

"Xzavier had connections in the prison and outside to make this happen. He was hell bent on revenge. He saw jack coming forward as a betrayal."

"We saw the video. He didn't shoot his brother. He killed an enemy." Lucas said.

"I can't go anywhere now. They need me here." Brooke proclaimed.

"And i need you too." Lucas stated matter of fact.

The couple went upstairs and changed into their PJs. For the first time in a long time.

They slept they way they used too. Wrapped up in each others arms.

The days ahead were going to long and draining.

Just for these few hours. They gave each other a break.

And simply laid there. Neither of them sleeping.

Jack's death didn't feel real to either of them yet.

...

At some point they got out of bed. Hours later.

Lucas went to the kitchen. To make breakfast.

Brooke stayed close by. Not wanting to be alone.

"How do we explain Jack.?" Brooke asked. Looking to her husband.

Lucas sighed deeply. Alaska and Sage had the child's hope and innocence. Learning this would take that away. But they had to hear it from them. Not kids at school or the news.

Lucas finished plating the breakfast he had made.

French toast. Bacon. Scrambled eggs.

Brooke was all prepared to go upstairs and wake them up.

But instead Sage and Alaska awoke on their own.

Jack being the main topic of conversation.

"After breakfast. Me and momma have to talk to the both of you."

"It's very important and can't wait." Lucas explained.

"I made pictures and a card for Jack's hospital room."

"It'll make him happy to see all the colors." Sage explained.

"Can we go see Jack and have lunch at the hospital together.?" Alaska asked. Looking to his parents.

...

Once they were seated in the living room after breakfast.

Brooke and Lucas focused on their children. Holding hands as they spoke.

"Jack was hurt very badly. By an evil person."

"And i know the two of you wanted him to get better."

"He thought he was going to get better. But his injuries were too much for his heart to take." Brooke stated matter of fact.

"Jack died last night. The doctors tried to save him."

"But there was nothing anyone could do." Lucas explained.

"Jack was in so much pain. He's free of that now. He's a guardian angel for the both of you."

"He loved the two of you so much."

"Daddy and I are so sorry." Brooke said. The emotion in her voice thick.

"Why did Jack leave us without saying goodbye.?" Sage asked. Tears in her eyes welling up then falling.

Lucas scooped the small girl into his arms in a hug.

"He said he was going to get better. He lied to me."

"He said he was coming home."

"Jack's all alone now and he hates being alone."

"This isn't fair!" Alaska exclaimed.

"I know baby. I know." Brooke replied.

Hugging Alaska tightly.

Alaska felt his world shift and the color drain from it.

Jack was so much more then just his brother.

Brooke held him close. As Alaska eventually broke down.

His body shaking as he sobbed.

...
