Into The Sunset
Chapter 34
Who knows what true loneliness is - not the conventional word but the naked terror? To the lonely themselves it wears a mask. The most miserable outcast hugs some memory or some illusion.
Awhile Later
"We can talk or not talk. I'm cool with just sitting here."
"I actually run everyday. It keeps me focused and gives me a chance to check in with myself." Taylor stated matter of fact.
"I wouldn't mind running more often. And having you're company isn't a bad thing either." Lucas replied.
"Can i be honest with you.?" Lucas asked.
"Sure. Into the vault it goes. I'm good at keeping secrets." Taylor replied.
"I thought we weren't going to have anymore kids."
"Then Jack came into our life and nothing was the same."
"He wasn't a bad kid. He just never had people in his life who cared enough to make an effort. He had wanted to belong for so long."
"When we adopted him he changed. He could stop running and just be."
"Given how things turned out. I can't help but wonder if he was better off without us.? Maybe he would of lived alot longer. I don't know." Lucas admitted.
...
Brooke awoke and was waiting for Lucas when he re entered the home.
"You're back. How was the run.?" Brooke asked.
"Nothing special. Why don't we order take out or warm up some of the food everyone has brought by.?" Lucas suggested.
"None of us are very hungry but. Yeah. We have to keep up our strength. Tommorow's going to be so hard."
"I don't know how to get them through this. Or myself." Brooke admitted.
"We'll take it one hour at a time." Lucas replied.
"It's too quiet in here. I hate it." Brooke stated matter of fact before going back upstairs.
Lucas decided it was for the best he keep his new friendship with Taylor to himself.
Brooke would only make it more then what it was. And truthfully.
He needed Taylor's friendship. Someone separate from the loss and who wasn't so involved in his life.
