Hawkins had a newcomer. An English chick, apparently.
"Or maybe British - one of the two," Eddie had heard one of his fellow students at Hawkins High gossip with another.
He hadn't cared enough to stop and explain the flawed logic behind that statement. Truth be told, he hadn't really cared about the new development all that much at all. Not beyond wondering why anybody would cross an ocean to come here. But it was whatever. Different strokes for different folks, right? Morbid curiosity about a supposedly cursed town was as good a reason for tourism as any. Maybe even a better reason, 'cause it sure beat lying on a beach worrying about tan lines.
It turned out that everybody else found the prospect of the newcomer way more interesting than Eddie did, though, because he continued to find out more about her the more time went on with absolutely no effort. For instance, it turned out she was attending Hawkins Community College - which just added another layer of weird to the whole thing. Whoever this girl was, she must've been seriously touched in the head because it wasn't like the place was known for its great academic prowess. Last he'd heard, they'd been boasting to prospective students about their two working computers, and their library wasn't all that much bigger than the trailer he lived in.
But the old adage about the third time being the charm ended up proving true when Eddie happened across the next tidbit of information - overheard from the jocks, of all people.
"She hot? The new girl in town? She'll have that accent, right? All Samantha Fox?"
"Eh. You'd think, but nah. I mean, sure, she's got the accent I guess, but…well, you'll get it when you see her. She's kind've a freak."
And that was when Eddie grew interested, perking up even as the idiot he'd overheard groaned his disappointment. Maybe he'd have to see the newbie. She was already coming for his title, after all.
