Chapter 8: UA Bound
~~Within the Duelists' Realm~~
It had been nearly ten days since Izuku was trapped within the Duelists' Realm, and it was driving him insane. Neither he nor the others understood why it was taking so long for him to recover, his Life Points were back to 8000 and nothing else seemed to be wrong. The Pharaoh thought that maybe meeting Auset may have had a heavy toll on his body, making it take longer to recover physically since mentally he was fine. With no other reason why he would be trapped here, he figured the Pharaoh was right.
During this time Izuku tried to atleast get to know the others more, mostly Jaden since he was the newest duelist to the thrones. And ironically their lives have some similarities to one another. First, both aimed to go to a high school where they would study and train to be the best in their prospective dreams. Jaden wanted to be the next King of Games, while Izuku wanted to become the next symbol of peace. Both were seen as outcasts, since in Jaden's world the dorm he was assigned was meant for the slackers of the schools while Izuku was put down being a crazy man for the longest time due to his quirk. Not exactly the same, but close enough for Jaden.
After talking with Jaden, he wanted to talk to Joey but both he and Seto were still silent in contemplation. The Pharaoh then approached Izuku, hand on his shoulder as he could see the pain in Izuku's eyes for their grief. Whatever happened to their worlds they would figure it out, and if he could Izuku would fix it.
Most of the time in the Duelists' Realm was then consumed with Izuku's training. Though he couldn't summon the monsters or use the spells in this place, he could talk and learn more about the monsters he had. And with both the Pharaoh's and Jaden advice he was thinking of new combos for the monsters he had. Jaden had wanted to give Izuku a new spell, one called Polymerization, but Pharaoh convinced him not to. It was too risky trying to do anything with Izuku while he was trapped in their realm.
On the tenth day, as Izuku looked up to the white ceiling of the realm, he felt something happening. He looked around, grunting before getting to his feet. "Guys, I think I am finally waking up."
Jaden looked at Izuku, smiling with a smirk. "Well it's about time sleepy head! You're gonna have such a serious case of bed head when you wake up."
The Pharaoh nodded, giving off his own mild smile. "Indeed, I hope you're ready for your mother to reprimand you for fighting again."
Izuku's eyes popped as he remembered that. "Hey guys, think you can try to keep me here instead?"
~~Inside Izuku's Hospital Room~~
Izuke groaned as he slowly opened up his eyes, the bright light from the sun making it hard to not close them. He looked to the widows, seeing the sun beaming softly with clouds passing by to block it. He sighed, smiling softly as he was finally awake. He turned his head to the right, only to be tackled and hugged by Itsuka as she pulled him in for an embrace. She was crying softly as she held him, and Izuku's face was hotter than the sun outside. He blushed hard as she pulled away, wiping a tear away before smacking him with some small force as she looked down at him.
"You idiot! What were you thinking!"
"Itsuka, listen I-"
"I don't want to hear it, Izuku! God, you're so dense! You don't think that maybe you shouldn't have gotten involved in that fight! Those heroes would have been fine, they even said so! You went headlong into danger again and this time you were unconscious for almost eleven days straight! Do you have any idea how worried Mrs. Ink has been because of this! She has gotten sick, literally, from worry!"
Itsuka went off on Izuku for about ten minutes straight, a mix of joy, anger, and pain in her voice as she stood over his bed and let him have it. By the time she finished she wiped her cheeks from the tears. "But despite all that…I'm really glad you're okay. Oh, that reminds me." She moved aside, and behind her at the door was an old lady with a syringe for a cane and another smaller syringe in her hair bun. "This is the doctor that fixed you up. Her name is-"
"Recovery Girl." Izuku interrupted, his eyes having stars as he was in the same room with the youthful heroine. "It's an honor, thank you!"
The lady chuckled, walking to Izuku's bed before looking at his charts. "Don't mention sonny. I was asked by my boss to keep an eye on you."
"Who is your boss?"
"That would be me."
Izuku turned his head to look at the door as it opened up to reveal his mother, Inko, Yuna Kendo, and a small mouse-bear looking creature in a suite. Inko rushed to Izuku, Itsuka standing aside with a chuckle as she took a few steps back to stand with her mother.
"I am glad you woke up, Mr. Midoriya," Nezo said with a smile as he sat on a chair beside Izuku's bed, cup of tea in hand as he sipped from it. It took about twenty minutes for Inko to calm down enough to be able to let Izuku breathe through her embrace. "I am Nezo, the principal of the UA."
"I heard through a member of my staff about you, and after looking at your application and seeing your quirk I grew interested in you. I was sad to hear that you were hospitalized after you stepped in to save Magnum and Mercury. I asked our nurse to keep an eye on you, and she worked her quirk on you a few times. Apparently your body was so exhausted from the experience that it took several days to recover."
Izuku blinked a few times before only thinking of one thing, but before he could answer there was a knock on the door. Inko smiled, telling the person outside that it was okay to come in. And if Izuku wasn't blown away by his guests already, he was now as All Might himself walked into the room.
"ALL MIGHT?!" Izuku nearly passed out for the second time this month before Itsuka gave him a light slap against his back.
"I see you have finally woken up." All Might said, his trademark smile plastered across his face as he stood beside Nezo. "I must say young man, I am impressed with how you handled the situation you were dealt with. Not many civilians would have ran headlong into danger like that. Not to mention I heard about what you did in the fire a few months back. You truly have the heart of a hero!"
Now Inko was awestruck, not for meeting All Might since she met him a few days ago when Recovery Girl and Nezo first showed up, but about how the number one here himself was praising her baby boy.
"I only did what anyone would have done, sir!" Izuku all but shouted as he stood up straight as All Might talked. The veteran hero chuckled, his voice deep and booming.
"A modest one, aren't you? Well, it's because of your heroics that we at UA have shown interest in you!" All Might chuckled as he was about to speak again before feeling Recovery Girl's cane whack him against the shin.
"You were supposed to let Nezo talk to him about UA you big oaf! You're not supposed to talk about it until the news was given out during the exam results!"
All Might gulped, looking down at Nezo who was sporting an annoyed look on his face. He sighed before returning his smile to Izuku. "Like All Might said, UA has interest in you. And after reviewing your middle test scores and attendance, we want to offer you a recommendation for the Hero course."
"What?! Really?!" Shout Izuku, Inko, and even Itsuka. She knew they wanted to talk to him about UA, but she didn't expect her best friend and crush to be offered a recommendation to their dream school!
All Might let out another hearty laugh before looking down at Izuku again. "Indeed! After talking with the other faculty, we couldn't possibly worry about things such as a practical exam after you had taken on life threatening situations twice now. That being said, there are a few things we'd like to ask you about your abilities."
"Mostly, are they only combat oriented?" Nezo chimed in, handing his cup to All Might who then went to the nurse's station to get some more for his boss.
Izuku thought for a moment, then after a few seconds he looked at Nezo. "To be honest with you sir, I am not sure. I have my monsters, which I suppose I could use for rescues and natural disasters. But my spells are mostly for combat. I have one that restores my own Life Points when I use it, but it takes five minutes for me to be able to cast it again."
"I see, and these are the only spells you can use?"
"Well, at the moment, yes. I unlock my spells and monsters at the whims of the others. Or when I defeat a villain I guess, since I unlocked two more monsters and a spell when I defeated that robbed guy." Izuku tried to keep a straight face, he didn't know if it was a good idea to tell anyone the whole truth yet.
"You mean the voices in your head? So they do dictate how your quirk works?"
"Yes and no. Once I am given the monster of the spell, they are mine to use as I want to. But they control the only non-threatening way to unlock more of them."
"Okay, I suppose that is sort of a set back. Your growth is mostly based on the whims of the voices. How many monsters do you have? And what about spells as well?"
"I have roughly eight monsters after defeating the villain. As for spells I have exactly five of them. Three of them are offensive spells, one is the healing spell I told you about, the third is a spell that lets me conjure a sword for myself or monsters that can use them."
Nezo nodded, listening to Izuku as he spoke about his quirk. He made mental notes of everything he heard. Meanwhile in the hallway All Might stood with Detective Naomasa, the man listening through a hidden microphone on Nezo while he looked through the one sided glass window on the door to the room.
"So far no lies, but when he was asked about what his quirk was it was almost like a half truth. He hesitated, so I believe he is hiding something about it that he doesn't want to tell us."
All Might sighed, looking through the window as well. "I don't blame him, if what your story said is true, his quirk may be something that won't let him speak about it? Perhaps it wants to keep itself a secret?"
"Maybe, but for now all we can do is keep an eye on him. When he gets to UA, make sure that you try to see what his quirk really is, Toshinori."
All Might nodded, clearing his throat as Naomasa left and he went back into the room. He felt guilty about doing this, he was basically spying on Izuku. But if what he thinks is true, a new great threat could be coming to Japan, and it's all tied to the boy laying in that hospital bed.
