Chapter 10: Class 1-B
To say Izuku was slightly disappointed with his class assignment wouldn't be a complete exaggeration. When he got to the UA Campus he was given his schedule, and when he saw his class assignment he was all but shocked to see he was in the second tier of the Hero Course. That being said, that chill of disappointment only lasted a few moments before Izuku snapped himself back into the reality of the situation. He was in UA, and he was in the Hero Course. It shouldn't matter what room he was in. The fact he was there was proof enough he achieved something.
With pep in his step Izuku made way to his designated classroom. He had come to class early, hoping to get a better chance to explore the campus but sadly was told that he wasn't allowed to explore the grounds just yet since he hadn't even met his homeroom teacher. So with that Izuku made his way to his classroom, and found himself surprisingly alone within the confines of the typical decorated classroom. He looked at the desk before settling on the one at the back right corner of the class. He hoped that maybe doing so would keep him out of the eyes of his other classmates. After all his experience with schools and the students wasn't all that great. He was bullied most of his student life.
With his bag set aside and his utensils on the desk ready and prepared he took out his notebook. With the extra time, and silence, Izuku thought it a good idea to start forming up some strategies with his cards. With pen in hand he wrote down all he knew about himself and his quirk's abilities.
Izuku Midoriya
Quirk: Duelists
Available Cards:
Celtic Guardian (Monster): An elven warrior in traditional celtic armor. First monster obtained and most attuned with. Costs 1400 Life Points to summon.
Flame Swordsman (Monster): A large, physically fit swordsman covered in strange armor that carries a sword that bursts with fire. Costs 1800 Life Points to summon.
Dark Magician Girl (Monster): A beautiful, but powerful spellcaster. When she is with me on the field, the potency of my spells increases. Costs 2000 Life Points to summon.
Red Eyes Black Dragon (Monster): A dragon of pure black scales with dark red eyes that seem to look at others as prey and nothing more. Seems to be stronger when others of its species are around him. Costs 2400 Life Points to summon.
Red Eyes Wyvern (Monster): Seems to be a smaller, weaker version to its counterpart, Red Eyes Black Dragon. Not as strong, but clearly faster. Costs 1800 Life Points to summon.
Elemental Hero Clayman (Monster): A goliath of a hero, made of what seems like hardened clay and stone. His defense is far greater than his attack. Costs 800 Life Points to summon.
Elemental Hero Sparkman (Monster): A speedy but powerful hero monster, harnessing the power of electricity for his attacks. Costs 1600 Life Points to summon.
Elemental Hero Bubbleman (Monster): Honestly one of the weakest monsters I have within my deck. He seems to be only useful for situations containing fire or for something called "Fusions". Costs 800 Life Points to summon.
Dragon Gunfire (Spell): Empowers the fiery breath of a dragon by a considerable amount. Costs 500 Life Points to cast.
Hinotama (Spell): Fires a ball of fire at my direct line of sight. Costs 500 LP to cast.
Soul of the Pure (Spell): Restores 800 Life Points for no cost. Requires a cool down of roughly five minutes.
Dark Magic Attack (Spell): Fires a bolt of dark, magical energy directly before me. Costs 750 Life Points.
Burst Stream of Destruction (Spell): A spell only able to be performed when Blue Eyes White Dragon is summoned. Not sure of its effects on its Life Point cost.
Izuku looked at the written information he made and thought. He currently has a total of 8000 Life Points and doesn't replenish passively when in combat. Sure he has the Soul of the Pure spell to use when fighting, but that isn't a promising tactic due to its cooldown. He looked over at his rather short spell list, and couldn't help but think that this is his weakest attribute to his quirk at the moment. He only had three usable spells, and all of them were meant to inflict damage over anything. Meanwhile his monsters could be used for anything, from combat to rescue. It was clear that he would favor monster use over spells for his Life Points.
He kept looking over his info and did end up coming up with a few strategies he would want to test out. First being what he called the Dragon Combo, which is basically summoning his Red Eyes monsters and using their combined strength to overwhelm the enemy while using Dragon Gunfire to cause their attacks to be doubled in power.
His second combo was the Magician Rush, where he would summon Celtic Guardian to protect both him and Dark Magician girl as they rained their spells on the foe.
Either combo was nothing but offense, though he thought if it came to a defensive battle either could pass as good strategies.
He kept working in his notebook, not paying attention as the time passed and the classroom was slowly filling one by one. The other students only looked at him in confusion as they heard him mutter to himself here and there, not taking his eyes off his notebook as he worked on whatever he was working on. However, when a certain orange haired girl saw him when she walked in, she made quick work to end the muttering.
"Izuku!"
The boy turned his head, smirking as he saw his friend walking to him and taking the desk beside him. Itsuka smiled as she sat next to her friend, looking at the notebook on his desk while the others in the class were both confused and intrigued how just saying the boy's name got the girl to silence his annoying muttering. The two sat and talked for a few minutes, both excited to share the classroom together and be able to train alongside one another. Though the conversation ended rather swiftly when a large man in a red themed hero costume walked in and slammed his hand on the desk.
"Listen up you rookies! My name to you will be Mr. Kan, understood? Good. Now, we are going to go to the welcome ceremony where the principal and other faculty will go over what to expect over this coming school year. From there I am taking you straight into exercises to gauge what you are capable of. Do not embarrass me at the ceremony! Now get up and follow me!"
Izuku was definitely not a fan of this teacher, he just seemed to be really rude. Though he didn't want to pick a fight with his homeroom teacher on day one of his three year education with him. He sighed as he got up, moving to follow behind Itsuka as the group of students made their way to the assembly hall.
The assembly was rather boring, all things considered. It was mostly about how to act and behave on school grounds, rules and regulations for minor things like hair and make up, and other normal high school things. Though as the assembly went on, Izuku did notice that the seats beside him were empty. From what he heard from the whispers behind him from class 2-B, the homeroom teacher of class 1-A was known for skipping the ceremony and testing his students right out the gate. With a silent sigh, Izuku was happy that it wasn't his room now.
~~At Ground Beta~~
The students of 1-B stood before the gates into the UA training facility called Ground Beta. Mr. Kan looked down at his students before letting out a huff. "I am going to test each of you off the bat in one-on-one combat. Behind us will be the battleground for these fights. I believe in a practical approach, and am upping my teaching methods this year to compete with Aizawa and his precious class 1-A."
Beside Izuku he could see a blonde boy smirk with that statement. Before the blonde could speak, Mr. Kan spoke up again. "That being said, I will be hand picking combatants. So I choose…" He pointed to Izuku. "Izuku Midoriya versus… Hiryu Rin!"
Izuku turned his head to see a boy walking to stand before their teacher, and he soon followed the example. The boy didn't look anything special to Izuku, not being able to gauge what his quirk was from looks alone. The young boy returned his attention to his teacher as he started to speak about the rules of their engagement.
"Simply speaking I, along with the rest of the class, will be monitoring the fight in a special location equipped with cameras in the area you will be fighting in. Mr. Midoriya, you will act as offense in this fight, meaning that Mr. Rin will be on defense and will be allowed a five minute period to prepare himself. The winner will be the last one standing. If neither of you are down by the end of the timer I set, it will be a tie. Got it? Good! Now go prepare yourself."
Izuku turned to Hiryu, smiling and offering a hand to shake but the opponent he would face ignored it with a smirk before making his way into the battleground. Well, it looks like not every person in his class will be as friendly as Itsuka.
