Episode 10
A black image covers what can be seen.
There is no display or signs of things being recorded, yet the video still started.
A giant cave displayed in its whole both natural and artificial architecture. A rich red and orange colour tainted the whole underground civilization, illuminated by a large amount of fire lamps surrounding the place.
In one of those locations, was what could only be described as a place for people to gather, talk, and... Drink
Ichirin Kumoi: Hey Nazrin, this is paradise ain't it? Spending time hanging out with Unzan and you is nice, and the sake is great!
Ichirin, rather drunk already, lifted her cup in the air with a cheer, Unzan making an "Unnn!" sound In response.
Nazrin let out a sigh, clearly distracted.
Nazrin: I wish Shou wasn't so busy lately...
Suddenly Nazrin perked up after muttering this, realizing how rude she was being by saying that here.
Nazrin: I-I mean, yeah, this is nice. It's quite peaceful today, usually it's far more rowdy around here... I wonder why…
The angle of the image shifted towards the backs of the talking girls. Along with them was an Oni who just so happened to join as they came in.
Yuugi Hoshiguma: Who cares?
Much more sake for us!
Yuugi shrugged and laughed it off,
"Gently" pating Nazarin's back with one of her hands.
Nazrin let out a chuckle and sat back on her stool. she opened one eye, spinning around and seemingly looking for something for a moment before turning back and downing some of her drink.
Ichirin Kumoi: Eh? What was that about?
The rat in grey shook her head.
Nazrin: It's nothing, I just felt like someone was watching us for a second. Guess the alcohol is making me a little paranoid that Byakuren is gonna waltz in here...
The woman in blue laughed loudly, mostly due to the effects of the sake.
Ichirin Kumoi: Lady Byakuren has more things to worry about than us going missing for a little bit. Besides, we'll be back soon enough. Also, Unzan would let me know if he saw anything, right?.
Unzan grunted "Unnn!" and nodded.
On the side of them, the big Oni drank alcohol from a red plate, enjoying every sip of it.
Yuugi Hoshiguma: Haha!
Guess we are covered then eh?
She look from the side to Unzan, smiling like she usually did when she drank. She had a respect for other strong people, so of course they had sparred in the past.
Yuugi Hoshiguma: Nazrin is right on something though.
It Is a bit empty for the Underworld standards, Haven't even heard from Suika all day…
Nazrin looked up at Yuugi as she spoke, shuddering.
Nazrin: I still remember the time she came to the temple and kicked our asses...
Yuugi let out a loud laugh.
Yuugi Hoshiguma: Us Oni have a unique way of introducing ourselves~
Nazrin took a long sip at that, before changing the subject.
Nazrin: So anyway, Yuugi, have you heard about the weird-
The video cut off suddenly, but instead of ending it was rapidly replaced with something else entirely.
The imagery cut to an almost imperceptible static in which colour passed too fast and its sound was too small to notice, blink and you'll miss it.
Before anything could be seen, the tape continued following a grounded angle of Yuuka Kazami in her gardening attire. A small... Kid with some sort of antennae on her head, a white shirt and some sort of cape, was sitting on the floor behind the kneeling Flower Youkai.
The kid decided to talk and her voice sounded very childish despite the context of her speech.
Wriggle Nightbug: You see, I've been having a bad feeling for the past few days, like i'm being watched constantly... I don't understand it. Have you noticed anything strange, Miss Kazami?"
Wriggle looked over expectantly, unsure of what to do.
Yuuka was taking care of her sunflowers, and she seemed to be looking for something under her plants while being cautious as to not hurt them.
She was a very old Youkai, one that mostly despised company, and yet she found herself bonding with the small bug youkai and wanting to participate in a festival that was coming up.
Yuuka then replied with what she knew and had at the moment.
Yuuka Kazima: I can't tell you much about it.
I'm constantly being observed by my beautiful Friends.
And so are they by me.
She said this as she made a few sunflowers grow up and down. Her response ended and they looked like new again.
Wriggle nodded, understanding what she was talking about.
She went silent for a moment before asking an even stranger question.
Wriggle Nightbug: Miss Kazami...
Youkai are still mortal, even if they have longer lifespans than humans by a long shot. I don't know why but... No, nevermind. But still... what are your thoughts on the idea of death?
The Flower Youkai looked over her shoulder to the bug Youkai and gave one of her ominous looks
Eyes that could freeze people and make them think they are, or will be dead.
But even so, even if Wriggle felt unease by her gaze, she knew that it was just Yuuka acting curious about something.
Yuuka Kazami: My... That's a Big question for a small Youkai.
I do wonder where do you get those questions from...?
She only recieved a rather worried gaze of her small buggy friend.
Perhaps Yuuka's new hobby was to see people's reactions to her genuine words or actions.
Yet, she gave it the time for thought while she made her search through the lower parts of the sunflowers, looking for that unknown source of something even more unknown.
Yuuka Kazami: Think of things as... Flowers.
There are tons of them in this world, some of them are beatiful, some nutricious, and some...
The camera angle shifted and despite the uncomfortable position of it, it could be seen how a small brown root was trying to reach for a sunflower
She didn't even had to touch it before it simply dry itself by her powers, however, it was too small for her to leave all suspicion
Yuuka Kazami: Some of them are just poison weeds...
No matter how much they do, every Flower eventually rots.
But, good flowers are the ones that are worth remembering...
She finally managed to look entirely over her shoulder to Wriggle
Yuuka Kazami: If you ask me.
You are a pretty good flower~
The buggy girl smiled and scratched the back of her head.
Wriggle Nightbug: Thank you Miss Kazami, i've just been really afraid lately is all. It feels like Gensokyo isn't as safe as it was a few years ago, even for us Youkai...
She trailed off as she looked off into the peaceful field of sunflowers as far as the eye could see.
Wriggle Nightbug: I'd say something about it to that lazy shrine maiden but she'd probably beat me up for wasting her time... but I guess above all else its just a bad feeling I've been having for a while now. A feeling that Gensokyo is about to change.
The elder Youkai let out a small sigh that sounded more like a muffled giggle.
Yuuka Kazami: Even I have to admit that not all change is bad.
The Festival is coming soon, and these last 6 years have brought Humans and peaceful Youkai closer than ever.
Perhaps this change could be the full blossom of a more interesting Gensokyo...
The younger Youkai nodded
Wriggle Nightbug: I hope you're right, I'm really looking forward to the festival. I'll definently make sure to come to help!
Yuuka looked back and smiled.
She was about to say som̴̛̳̰é̶̳͕͔̦̊̔͂̅̄͂̈̽̕͝ṭ̷̤͖͈̥̲͇̽̋͜h̷̨̛̹̗͖̫͎́̍́̏̽̄ḯ̷̧̢̲̻͔̰̯̤̝͂̍n̸̳͉̺̹͚̬͎͈͖̪̠̓̓̑̽̊͌̈̅̏͘͝g̶̨̨̢̛̖̗̞̥͇̣̜͈̟̅̒̓̅̔͛̌
The video cut off again, this time the interval of static lasted longer than a fraction of a second, and the sound didn't register for more than a blink.
When the colour and light came back, there was a view of a beautiful backyard garden. In the garden there was a Redhead Woman in Chinese clothes, working side by side with a maid who was wearing an odd grey outfit with white lines. The maid's knives were replaced by more sophisticated plant management tools.
Meiling wiped the dirt from her forehead as she began digging up a handful of weeds in front of her. Looking at Sakuya, she spoke up.
Hong Meiling: So, how has the young mistress been doing lately? I assume she is recovering well after that accident?
The Head chief maid was making some bush art with her gardening scissors, something worthy of the Mansion
But for her, nothing in the mansion could compare in value to her mistresses, including the youngest one.
Sakuya Izayoi: She is currently having some issues getting out of bed... At night even…
She sounded a bit concerned over this statement.
Meiling Frowned.
Hong Meiling: That's a little odd, but i guess she's just recovering in her own way... I wonder if visiting her would lift her spirits some, I know I don't leave my post much but I could at least try to cheer her up.
Meiling looked to Sakuya for a response.
The latter gave some finishing touches to her gardening masterpiece-
But as expressful that piece of art was...
Sakuya Izayoi: ...Perhaps.
Sakuya definitely wasn't.
Her responses as always felt polite, elegant and cold.
Meiling's Attempted "sculpture" in the likeness of Remilia simply looked like an oddly shaped bush.
Regardless, she gave a thumbs up to Sakuya, understanding her loud and clear.
Hong Meiling: I'll make sure to work extra hard so I can help Lady Flandre!
The moment dissipated in seconds as the screen turns into a static that lasted around 2 seconds.
A bit more visible now, the image showed a bunch of static lines, white, gray, black... Blue?
The sound delayed itself and wasn't recorded
The visuals depicted a tall woman with black hair and brown outfit including hat of said colour and a red tie. She was holding a small notebook in one hand, and a pencil on the other.
In front of her stood a small girl with blueish hair that matched her blue clothes. She had a black tie, twintail hairstyle, a green cap and round glasses on her face.
Random Kappa: So anyway, Us Kappa aren't very social usually, so it's perfectly normal that Nitori might need some time in seclusion once in a while. I hear she's been busy working on something really important, and she asked most of us to leave her be so she could focus on what she was doing.
The Kappa girl readjusted her glasses as she spoke, wiping them clean and looking back up at Aya.
Aya Shameimaru: Sure, I am aware that all of you are big introverts... But.
What about your recent interactions with Humans over this years? You sure talk a lot with them this days for being so called shy youkais.
She talked with light words, with no apparent meaning behind them, the same amount of weight as feathers in the air.
She was clearly plotting a question, now that she had answers for her friend's absence, this was Aya looking for a headline.
Unlucky for the Kappa, for what they have in technological wisdom, they lack in social intelligence.
A sneaky word trap from a tengu could easily snare one who wasn't careful.
The Kappa stuttered, trying to find the right words.
Random Kappa: W-Well, we might do that when we are in the mood to sell our products to people like the villagers. Its an entirely different story when we have something important to work on, though.
Considering Nitori started this new Video Camera craze around Gensokyo, She could be working on any number of new ideas. She might be making anything from game consoles to working T.V cable.
The Kappa girl lost steam as she spoke, her glasses fogging back up.
Random Kappa: I-I mean I can't just assume that's what she is doing but... well... It'd make sense... I guess...?
Aya Shameimaru: Well, I've seen a few Kappas around the village from time to time without their backpacks around...
Could It be that some Kappas are being Something More than just Sworn Friends with the villagers?
She smiled knowing that she lured the poor Kappa right into her trap. Now she just had to take the bait.
Aya Shameimaru: What do you say my fellow Kappa friend?
Does your heart belong to a charming Human?
Mmmmh?~
She pointed with her pencil at the Kappa and smiled
The Kappa's Face turned extremely red as she desperately tried to deny the remarks.
Random Kappa: N-No Not particularly-
I mean!
Nope! Thats defininetly not happening nope nope nope-
Quitely, another Kappa approached, this one slightly more mature looking, the newcomer sighed and says.
- "I think you broke her, Aya"
But the Tengu didn't even pay attention to her words, she was already snapping some pictures of the troubled Kappa
Aya Shameimaru: Ehehehe...
This is More than scoop worthy!
The imagery didn't cut off instantly, the static started to fade in slowly with a muffled sound in the background.
Now, the visuals were about the insides of a Shrine being recorded from the ceiling.
There was a small girl in a purple dress with frog designs on it, wearing a big hat with eyes on it.
The girl was sitting in the Kotatsu, enjoying her moment of peace
Peace was definitely the right word for this moment.
Suwako Moriya: Ahhhh, It's so quiet without Kanako and Sanae around...
Why do I have the feeling that I shouldn't have said tha-
A black and white witch with blonde hair, holding a broom with a red bow on her hat came bursting through the door with a kick, yelling in cheerful energy
Marisa Kirisame: Yo' Sanae!
I came for your help-
She quickly stopped her shenanigans when she saw that there was no Green Reimu around.
The Earth Goddess let out a laugh.
Suwako Moriya: My, you are quite high-spirited today. Unfortunately, Sanae is out with Kanako at the village preparing for the festival.
Her expression turned to one of both humor and smugness.
Suwako Moriya: So, what do you need fixed today, Marisa?
Marisa Kirisame: Eh?
She quickly slowed down a bit her enthusiasm.
If it was to tease Suwako or was genuine from her is unknown
Marisa Kirisame: Eto... I came here for Sanae to fix my Camera.
Ya' know, since she is the Outsider Nerd Da'Ze~
Even with her spirits a bit down, she still was Marisa.
Suwako was unphased on her side.
Suwako Moriya: Ah, the Kappa must be mighty busy if you came all the way up here, you definently don't visit often.
Suwako then patted the Kotatsu and began motioning with her hand.
Suwako Moriya: Just leave the camera here and we'll get it back to you as soon as we can. I'll send Sanae to deliver it right away.
Marisa Kirisame: Awesome!
I can always count on you Suwako!
Marisa said this despite looking for Sanae or Kanako in the first place.
She hopped on her broom and flew off, not before waving goodbye with two fingers and a wink.
There was a strange clanking of metal in the shrine when the broom took flight and left some wind behind.
The sound was the first thing to come
It was more clear now, voices talking out loud but in such low pitches that sounded like whispers
Then they were all overwhelmed by another distant sound of static that manifested itself on the recording, changing the content once again.
This time showing two girls laying on the floor all beaten up and burned, one with red pants and the other in a pink princess clothes.
The inmortal Princess, the first Person of Hourai stood up with anger.
Kaguya Houraisan: You Absolute moron! Are you trying to burn the whole forest down with us? At least try t̴̨̛͈̤͕̗͙̮̖̳̒̌̔͌͘͠͝t̵̨͉̳̬̖̹͚̼̱̩̫̻̦͗̈́͛̒͋̇̍̊̌̌ţ̸͙͔̥͎̜̥͉̰̭͓̺̮͂̽̄̿́͌̐͑͑̾͆͛͝t̸̛̪͈̺͉̥̩̂͗͗̔̽̔̕͘t̶̛̮͖̟͖͓̠̉̉̾̆̾̓̽̄͐̍͂̀̈́t̷̢̝͎͍̣̠͍̟͒̈́̂͝t̸̢̨̬̤̟̦̉̍̽̇̄̿͊̈́̽͂̓̒͘͘ͅt̷̨̨̛͇͚̝̗̉̃͒̃͜t̶̛̰̫̭̼̫̤̮̠̺̖͓́̽́͛̍̔͂̄̅̍̑͛̕t̷̢̢̧͖̩͗̿̒̈̉͒̋́͂̚̚t̴̟͎̗̃́̏͐t̸͖͈̦͉̹͇̩̖̀̂͜t̸̢̻̺͔̤̫͉͙͚̦̱̻́̀͑̒̊̉̈́̔͊̏͘̕͝t̴̨̨̡̛͎̬̙͚̺̃̈́̓͗̓̇͒́̇͝͝͝-̸̧̜̭̳͉̮̤̩̰̍̀̈
It didn't even let her finish, nor let the other start
The void of black and white lines, tainted in a blue undertone of colour filled the screen once more
The sounds became louder, the uncoming sound that muffled the talking was no more than Radio Silence
Visibility came back once again.
It showed a room that was once seen before, an Earth Rabbit resting her head on a pillow.
The rabbit's eyes then shot open. Tewi looked around before methodically sitting up and rising from the bed. Quietly, she stared with a completely blank expression.
The sound was unbearable, the static pattern wasn't static, wasn't still, it shifted without anyone's attention to a tunnel of blue, black and white darkness
The radio silence was loud to be called silence, the voices were yelling
...
Nonethelss the image of this tunnel was being recorded, the point of view drew backwards showing that it was a television
The sounds were barely hearable from there
In front and below that piece of technology was a sleeping maiden of golden hairs and bows. Eyes, gaps and mysteries.
Yet, that woman of inmense power was in her winter profund slumber, but still murmuring on her sleep.
Yukari Yakumo: Reimu... My Gensokyo... Its...
She rolled over.
Yukari Yakumo: Why... Why now?
Yukari's Mumbling slowly stopped.
The noise dissapeard entirely
No voices, no static, no radio but pure silence
The dark blue iluminated tv was darkned by a silhouette of a person standing inside the television
Completely darkned by the obscurity of the room
A smile appeared on the silhouette
Maybe if she had woken up, maybe if the smile wasn't directed at her, maybe if it wasn't upside down
Maybe then…
