August 30th, 1991
It's a quiet evening at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The only occupants of the historic school all finalizing their preparations for the up-and-coming school year. That is all but one, a little boy with green eyes, and messy black hair, who could be found standing in the great hall, gazing up at the house points, with his arms clasped behind his back.
"Getting late, don't you think, Harry." said an elderly man, with a long, white beard, and twinkling eyes.
"That maybe Professor, but you and I both know that I don't need nearly as much sleep as everyone else." Harry said not even needing to glance behind him to know that the one to join him, was the headmaster, Albus Dumbledor.
Chuckling, "Too true, my dear boy. So, what clouds your thoughts this time? Usually, you are out in the forest or in the library reading at this time of night. Something bothering you?" asked the headmaster.
Harry just shrugs, "First day jitters, I guess. Hogwarts starts in two days, well day and a half now, I guess. I figured I'd get calm my mind by trying to figure out which house I will be sorted into."
"Oh, have you figured it out yet, or are you still undecided?" Albus responds, quite curious as to what Harry had come up with.
"Well, definitely not Hufflepuff, no offence to Professor Sprout, but I'm not the friendly, cheery type need for that house. Plus, with my condition I don't think it's best to get close to anyone. At least not until we learn the full extent of what is going on with me." Harry says, in a somewhat sad voice.
"Harry, you have proven time and time again that you don't need to worry about hurting anyone. You have lived in this castle for eleven years now and not once has there been an incident that would cause for concern. Though, I will agree that your condition will make things difficult to make friends your own age" Albus says.
Nodding and taking the headmasters words into consideration, continues, "Gryffindor wouldn't be a good fit either, though I do have the traits to do well there, it would just not be a suitable fit. Too loud and boisterous for my tastes."
"Yeah, I've seen you around some of the previous Gryffindor students, and while you have been kind and courteous, you've always tried to find a way to retreat whenever they started to crowd you." the headmaster says between chuckles.
"Ravenclaw is in a similar boat, while I am studious and love to learn new things, it just wouldn't be quite right for me to be placed there." Harry continues smiling along with Albus.
"So, Slytherin then? I don't think I need to warn you that many of the students your age will be children of those that followed Voldemort and will most likely share in his views will end up in that house. That's also not including the fact that those of the other houses will be reluctant to trust you, just because you're in Slytherin." Albus says with concern.
"That is to be expected, but I think I could redeem Slytherin house better from within. What better way to dismantle Voldemort's forces than to plant the seeds of doubt in the children of his followers. Sure, I'm most likely going to have to "prove" myself to some of them, but isn't that what the dueling ring is for, that's in their common room? Anyways, I want to see Slytherin house raised back up to the standards of the others. I think Salazar would be in tears if he were to see how far his noble house has fallen. Gone are the days of cunning, ambition, and subtlety, only to be replaced with dark magic, cruelty and thuggery." replies Harry. His voice filled with a resolve as great and powerful as a million suns.
"Spoken like a true Slytherin. I can't wait to see what you make of it. Now off to bed, you may not need as much sleep as I do but at least try and get an hour-long nap tonight, alright." Albus says with a proud smile.
Finally turning to face the headmaster, "Alright Professor, I'll head out. Have a good night."
As Harry leaves the great hall, Albus couldn't help but watch him go, thinking back to when James and Lily were that young and giving a sad sigh and looking up at the enchanted ceiling, "I wish you guys were here, you would be so proud of the amazing young man your son is growing up to be." And with that being said, Albus starts to make his way back to his quarters.
Alright everyone, how was that? Short, I know but it's been eight years, give or take, since I've done something like this. So please leave any comments or suggestions. Still trying to figure out a pairing, so if you really want to see Harry get paired up with someone in particular, PLEASE leave a comment on who you want and thank you for reading.
