Everything happened so fast, Adriana wondered how she even managed to comprehend everything.
In a flash, the bracelets on her mother's wrists turned into a bow and quiver full of arrows.
"No, it's an Empousa. Go find dad, Ana, GO!" Her mom screamed as Joanne continued to fly toward them at full speed.
She knew she standing there would do her mom no good, but she couldn't just leave her like that right?
Unfortunately for her, as soon as her eyes completely processed the monster, her brain began sending signals for her legs to run, to run away from here as fast as possible.
I live in a world of crazy monsters her brain said.
But another part of her brain urged her to stay, so the two clashing parts of her brain caused her to trip on her foot, which probably saved her life.
Joanne suddenly changed course as she lunged towards Adriana, but as we've said before, she tripped, and Joanne's claws narrowly missed her cheek.
Joanne hissed in frustration, as she turned.
"Adriana, go, listen to me GO!" Her mother rarely addressed her by her full name, when she does, you know it's serious.
With wobbly legs, Adriana finally managed to scramble up, and run.
The last thing she heard before she reached a turn, was the sound of an explosion. She stopped dead in her tracks as she slowly turned around. The scene that lay in front of her caused her eye to water immediately.
Everything was on fire, smoke billowed from the scatters of their ruined car. Her mom was nowhere to be seen, and so was Joanne. She began running back toward the wreckage, tears cascading down her cheeks as she rummaged through the piles of junk.
She ignored the fire, she ignored the burns on her hands, and she ignored the sounds of sirens that seemed to be far away.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed her shoulder and tried to pull her away. Her emotional state was so unstable at that time, with her heart ripping to shreds, she felt a wave of energy zap through her body. Her eyes mystified, she pointed her fingers at the police officer that tried to pull her away, and instantly blue electric power shot out of nowhere and the police officer collapsed.
Only when she heard the big THUD the man had made when he collided with the pavement, did Adriana realize what she had done.
She looked at her hands, eyes wide, her mind trying to process how she did that. Suddenly, it appealed to her, that she was a dangerous weapon, a dangerous threat freak that caused her mother's death.
"NO!" She screamed as she saw her father in the midst of people running toward her, "DON'T COME NEAR ME!"
However, her father just kept running toward her, ignoring the calls and threats of the police officers.
"No," Adriana shook her head violently as she started backing away, her hands behind her back, afraid it would go haywire again.
"Ana, it's okay!" Her father tried, but Adriana shook her head again.
"No, it's not…DON'T TOUCH ME!" she screamed as her father gripped her arm firmly, "I'm a monster! Please, let. Me. Go!" She tried to wriggle out of his grasp, but that just made her father grip her arm even tighter.
He crouched down until the two of them were the same height.
"Ana, it will be alright…"
"I just killed mother," she whispered, with fear in her voice.
"No, you didn't." Her father assured her, but she wasn't so sure, "Ana, come, I will explain everything to you, you need to trust me."
"How can you, no how could you be so calm when mother just died!" She screamed, her fingers pulling her messy brown hair, which was tangled in a mess right now.
"Because people are born to die, Ana. Now, we have to go, please," her father pleaded, the rim of his eyes red, but Adriana still didn't understand how his father could be so calm.
Without waiting for her response, her father pulled Adriana out of the crowd, glaring at anyone that dared stop them from leaving.
A crying Adriana buried her face in her father's shirt. Her father patted her on the back, trying to calm her down.
"Ana, get to the car now, and wait for me for 1 minute," her father said calmly.
"Where are we going?" She choked, hugging her chest. She knew she was being pathetic, but her mother just died in front of her, and she did nothing to prevent it.
"Ana, just get in the car," her father replied as he rushed inside the house and began packing things.
Adriana complied without another word. She wondered whether her mother would have lived if she had listened to her in the first place, or if she hadn't had that little fit with Joanne.
She stared out the car's window, as tears continued to slide down her cheeks. Then, her eyes turned red, her fists were clenched, her jaw tight. Only one word echoed in her mind.
Revenge.
Her parents are the best thing that had happened in her miserable life. They always encouraged her and supported her, even when she somehow blew up a classmate's backpack, her parents had been there to defend her.
But now, her mother was dead.
And her father…she wasn't sure how she should describe it.
Maybe it was because of her unstable mental state right now, but she somehow knew her parents were hiding something from her. Something big.

Poor Ana
