I picked a Traveler bloodline due to their sheer numbers, the style of magic, the challenge of weak magic and the fun it will bring me.
Why does everyone hate on the character that just needed help... Vicki!
"So... that makes twenty-two spells that work,... forty-seven that do not." Mark sighed, looking at the list of spells before him. It was fun to try these spells out, though he was careful about which spells he wanted to try. Spells that only used a limited amount of power, or had a natural cancelation to it so as to not kill him. He had managed to move things with his mind, create fires and a few small other things. Nothing major though, he simply could not cast most of the spells beyond a few blasts of power. He could only levitate objects a few feet for like five seconds. He could only make baby fires. He could only bubble water a little bit. He could only force a few small flashes of images he was tracking. Nothing major and it always gave him headaches, bloody noses or outright knocked him out.
He had though, over a few days, figured out his limitations with magic. He knew what would hurt him, what would kill him and what would just inconvenience him. He had plans to overcome it. Like potions and talisman, which used less power for the first and magnified power for the second. He could even draw strength and store power into talismans if they were spelled right which would give him far more power to levy in dangerous situations.
He could not wait to try it all out and create greater mastery overall.

"I cannot believe you forced me to his party, Vicki." Mark groaned. " I hate parties and booze and people."
Vicki just bumped into him. "You are such a whiner, I need someone to make this less sucky. You are my only real friend, Mark, just suck it up and help me out."
"Fine, but you owe me. I am going to go get a drink. Oh, and if you get high, I am ditching you. I am not carrying you home."
"Whatever, just be fast. I see Jeremy lurking. Oh wait, Tyler is here, I think I'm going to spend of time with him." And she ran off, leaving Mark alone at a party he didn't want to be at.
"Gods, we need to get her fixed..." Mark groaned, moving to get his drink,... only to shiver as something washed over his mind, a sort of dread and he knew it was related to Vicki. Without hesitating, he downed his drink and hurried towards the pull in his chest, the fear he felt.
Only to see Tyler rutting against Vicki, who was fighting the boy off. "No. I said no. I said no! Ow, that hurts!"
Everything went red in Mark's head and he charged, pulling Tyler off of his friend, socking in the face over and over and over again until someone pulled him off. As he struggled, he kicked Tyler in the face hard enough to make something crack. Tyler, bloody and beaten, coughed.
"Touch her again and I kill you. You hear me, I will kill you." Tyler nodded, struggling to stand and hurrying away like the little bitch he was. Turning to his friend, he saw both Vicki and Jeremy Gilbert looking at him. " I don't deal with abusers, you know that Vicki."
She nodded, pulling him into a hug. "Thanks... I really love you."
"Same Vicki, same... Jeremy, I know you screwed a few times over the summer but it's over, just go."Jeremy looked hurt when Vicki nodded and the boy marched away, pouting. " I am going to go clean my knuckles, if he comes back use this." He handed her a pocketknife, and some pepperspray. Things he carried since he was a tiny guy without much muscle.
"I'll try... I love you, I know I just said it, but I really do."
He just smiled at her before walking away to go clean his hands off. As he moved towards the party, he uttered a small pain relief spell. "Relevamen..." And he felt a small surge of heat soothing the bruises now etched onto his knuckles.
All seemed well as he patched himself up... at least until someone, Elena Gilbert, scream out. "Somebody help!" He saw Jeremy following his sister, carrying a bloody Vicki and he charged towards her.
Matt called out. "Vicki? Vicki, what the hell?! Somebody, call an ambulance!"
Having had some training, since he could not afford insurance, Mark moved into action. "Everyone move! Jeremy lay her down. Elena, your scarf." The girl obeyed and he quickly placed it over her injury.
Matt, desperate, said. "Vicki, Vicki, come on, open your eyes, look at me." And so he held his hands over her wounds, at least until the ambulance came and took her away. Matt gave him his car keys, saying. " Follow us, I know Vicki will want you to be there."
And so he did, driving to the hospital as fast as he safely could, wondering just what the hell attacked her and caused a neck wound on such a level. When he got into the hospital, the moment he reached Vicki's room, he heard her say a set of words that would change everything even more than his magic ever could.
"Vicki...Hey. Hey, it's okay. You're gonna be okay."
"Matt-"
"Hey, don't try to talk, okay? You're fine."
"Vampire."
Stunned, he knew that she was not lying, and that something needed to happen in order to protect his friend from whatever the hell was hunting her...
'I need a stake... and I need to start combat classes... and a lot of research to protect her from whatever the hell is going on... oh gods, this must be why those people were killed... the animal attacks.' Taking a deep breath, he walked into the room and smiled at Vicki, just as she passed out.
"Go, Matty, I'll watch over her so you can get some food or sleep."
Matt nodded. " Thanks... you've always been a good friend."
"I try now go. I don't have to be at school til ten anyway."
As Matty left, Mark put his hands on Vicki and focused, he did not see anything but he felt quite a bit... fear mostly.., and he knew deeply that she was not lying, not at any level and that was terrifying.
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a blast to write and read.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
