The Hunger Games: Victors Retold

Inspired by The Victor’s Project by Oisin55 and Tales of the Hunger Games by Christian Blanco, The Hunger Games:Victors Retold tells the stories of all 75 victors of the Hunger Games, both canon and non-canon. Most chapters are around 500 words, which is perfect for any Hunger Games fans looking for a quick look into the archives of Panem.

2. Pyxis Angler

District 4 cried when Pyxis Angler was reaped. Despite his huge size, the boy was never seen to harm a fly. And now, he was forced to enter a perverted death game for the entertainment of the elite. Unfair in the eyes of many, but a perfectly just punishment as decided by the Capitol.

There was rebellion at the end of last year's games, and Pyxis hoped that it might be enough to spare him from the horrors he witnessed on TV, but it was quashed within a month, and those responsible were publicly executed, so Pyxis had to hope that prayer would be enough to save him.

It wasn't.

He stepped upon the reaping stage with a sense of respect and humility -typical for those of the Angler family- and shook hands with not only his district partner but the Capitol representative too, making him a firm favourite among those in power and establishing connections that would come to his aid in future.

His games were similar to those of the previous year, but the Victors could not have been more different. Whilst Andronicus went on a rampage within the first minute, Pyxis instead focused on grabbing a spear and running as fast as he could away from the District 2 male, who appeared to be attempting to copy Andronicus' tactic of sheer force to claim victory.

In one of the many winding tunnels of the Capitol Arena, Pyxis was ambushed by the District 5 female, to the horror of both the Capitol and his home district. As she slashed down his back with her axe, Pyxis whipped around and impaled her on his spear. He was noted to shed a few tears in the following moments, in disbelief that he had caused such harm to another living being. However, he was forgiven by her in her final moments, acknowledging that he did what was necessary for his survival.

Pyxis, wounded, slowly continued through the tunnels, hearing the echoing screams of tributes slaughtered by the psychopathic District 2 boy, and covering his ears in an unsuccessful attempt to block them out .When it was just the two males remaining and the Capitol had grew tired of the 2 boy searching for his last opponent, they were both summoned into the centre of the arena to duke it out.

At first, Pyxis gained the upper hand, holding his spear horizontally to block his challenger's sword slashes. However, he fell victim to a surprise dash by the 2 male, who tackled him to the ground before pinning him down with ease. The boy made a fatal mistake though, making his victory speech whilst Pyxis was still alive, allowing the 4 boy to knee him in the groin and shove his spear through his throat to take victory.

After winning, Pyxis fell into a brief period of alcoholism, overcome with guilt from his actions in the games. Regardless, he was able to recover as his Capitol connections sent him to one of the best addiction treatment centres in Panem, and he went on to became a strong mentor for his district's following victors.
