The 6th Hunger Games began in an unexpected manner that surely affected its outcome.

The favourite that year, a bulky 17-year-old from District 1, was savagely killed in the bloodbath by the girl from District 10, allowing for more tributes to grab weapons and run, including the eventual victor, Mael Finnan of District 4.

Mael managed to find and secure a tunnel for himself to hide in, hearing the screams of those that were attacked every 1-2 hours and going through what he would do if he encountered another tribute.

However, there were relatively few deaths in the opening segment of the Games, compared to others which ended within 120 minutes. This is likely due to tributes becoming aware of the fact that most of their opponents were in possession of weapons, and so not risking a fight in fear of dying.

Despite this, as night fell upon the arena for the first time in the Games' history, the majority of remaining tributes decided to fall asleep and continue fighting the next day. The only tributes that chose to stay awake were Mael and the boy from 2, who managed to sneak into the multitude of crevices where their rivals were hiding and slit their throats as they slept.

The boy from 2 was unfortunate enough to come across a group of tributes that were awakened as he entered their tunnel. He was quickly killed, although not before managing to take one of their number with him. Mael was alerted by this commotion and realised that he stood no chance against the alliance of approximately 5, and so came up with an idea that would win him the games.

He collected a pile of weapons from the bodies of dead tributes, and those remaining in the centre, and placed them atop the group's tunnel entrance. He then clambered up to his assemblage of swords, spears, axes, maces and other sharp objects and let out an immense shriek that sent the group out of their hiding place to look for the origin of this noise.

Timing his move to perfection, Mael pushed the pile over the edge and down towards the unsuspecting team. It instantly killed two of them and seriously injured another, who the boy from 4 then jumped down and finished off.

From there, it was easy pickings for the eventual victor, who slaughtered the final members of the alliance and continued roaming the arena and murdering the final defenceless tributes.

After victory, Mael became a rather obnoxious figure in the district, regularly giving speeches that overplayed his story before he was assassinated by an unknown perpetrator during the year of the 31st Games.

Victor 6: Mael Finnan, age 16, from District 4. 10 kills.
