Chapter 9

That evening Liz "borrowed" Jasper motorcycle she picked up Steve and they went to the city to a dance club where the bouncer knew Liz and let them in. They had a good time then they went to an all night diner.

Liz noticed a man sitting at the counter with only a cup of coffee he was dressed shabbily and he smelled he was clearly homeless.

Liz asked their waitress "who is that man?"

The waitress said "that is just Thomas he comes here every night to get out of the cold he doesn't cause any trouble. We give free refills on coffee."

Liz asked "do you think he would appreciate a nice hot meal on me?"

The Waitress smiled and said "I will ask him what he wants."

Liz said "make it clear it can be anything on the menu."

The waitress said "I will, you are a nice girl."

The waitress left to fill their order then went to Thomas.

Steve said "that was kind of you."

Liz smiled and said "it doesn't cost much to pay for another meal and I'm sure Thomas appreciates to have his belly full.

Thomas came to their table after he was done to thank them.

Liz scooted over and said "sit down so we can talk. How did you find yourself in this situation. I bet you didn't plan on being like this."

Thomas sat down and told his story he had his own business he was a contractor then times turned hard he lost is business and his wife left him he lost his house he had tried to find work but it seemed no one was hiring.

Liz asked "if you could get into a computer training program that has room and board it is an 18 month long program would you be interested? I know someone the program starts at the first of the year. I can call her right now."

Thomas asked "are you sure it isn't too late."

Liz said "I'm sure, she is a night owl. It can't hurt to try."

Thomas said "alright but I know nothing about computers."

Liz said "the program is designed for beginners."

Liz pulled out her phone and dialed a few minutes later Liz said "Marge I know it is late, it is Liz I have a man here who would be a prefect candidate for your computer program. We are at the Diner on first. You can that is great. We all will have pie when you get here. His name is Thomas."

Liz hung up and smiled and said "Marge will be here in a few minutes the center isn't far away. She will have all of the information you will need."

When Marge came in she sat down next to Steve she had a folder of papers that needed filling out Liz ordered Apple pies all around after about an hour all of the paperwork was filled out and Thomas left with Marge filled with Hope for his future.

Steve said "you are amazing."

Liz said "I'm also too tired to make it home tonight are you against spending the night with me."

Steve said "I would love it."

Liz drove to a hotel when they entered the room Liz jumped on Steve and had her way with him and they fell asleep.

Steve woke up the next morning to Liz's phone ringing he answered it "Hello this is Liz's phone."

It was a man on the other line he said "where is Liz? This is important this is her father I need to talk to her."

Steve shook Liz she smiled at him and said "Happy birthday to me."

Steve said "you have a call he says he is your dad."

Liz frowned and took the phone and said "Hello, oh Doc hi what do you mean. Please say it is Jennifer. I will be there as soon as I can."

Liz hung up and said "we have to get home immediately."

Steve asked "is everything alright."

Liz said "my sisters are trying to take custody of my son. I gave him up for adoption and they are trying to take him from the people that adopted him."

Steve asked "you have a son."

Liz said "he isn't really mine anymore and he doesn't know who I am to him but I will be damned if my sisters take him away from his adopted family."

Liz and Steve got dressed and Liz drove like a bat out of hell she dropped Steve off at his house then she went to the Cullen's Liz left the bike out front and ran in the house.
