Chapter 15

Liz didn't come back for three days on the third day Esme got a phone call

She picked up a number she didn't know and a males voice said "I don't know if you remember me but this is David. Liz just showed up here in tears and she won't tell me what she is upset about but I thought you should know."

Esme said "Thank you David for letting us know we have been so worried. Liz's boyfriend broke up with her after she told him she was pregnant and the truth about her."

David said "he sounds like a jerk. Liz do you want me to kill him for you. Alright calm down I won't touch him. I should go I think I upset her worse. I will make sure she gets home safely."

Esme said "thank you again David."

Esme told the family "Liz is safe she is with her friend David he is going to bring her home."

Jasper said "good she shouldn't be alone right now and David loves her."

Alice smiled and said "yes he does and Liz loves him whether she admits it or not. I think the baby she is carrying is David's they spent a lot of time alone together when he was here and they do have a history together."

Carlisle said "if that is the case the baby could be very different then what we are expecting. Lucas is ¾ human and Liz and Nessie are ½ human if David is in fact the father of Liz's baby it would have been conceived after he became immortal that would mean it is only ¼ human."

Jacob said "not even human it will be ¼ wolf."

Two days later a truck pulled up to the house late at night David got out. David and Emmett looked so much like each other they could be brothers. They were the same height and build they had the same shape face and smile including the same dimples. The only real difference was the color of their eyes and length of their hair. Emmett's was short and David's was shoulder length. They could almost be twins. They even looked about the same age. Right about 20.

Liz was asleep and David went around picked her up and carried her in the house."

Carlisle asked "is she alright?"

David said "yeah just tired. Where is her room?"

Alice said "I'll show you. Thank you for bringing her home."

David said "No problem. I wanted to come back and talk to all of you anyway. I'm kind of finding this life hard to adjust to. Liz suggested that you could help me get used to it."

David put Liz down in her bed and Esme tucked her in and they went out to the others.

Esme said "We could certainly try to help you but you have to be willing to work hard and take our advice."

David said "anything has to be better then trying to figure this out on my own. I'm not sure how to explain it but it is rather excruciating being away from Liz. She is all I think about. Then there is the thirst and I can't seem to be able to focus on anything and it is all very frustrating."

Jasper said "most of that is because you are a newborn. The part about Liz might be because she is your mate or at the very least you are in love with her. If you want to stay with us you will have to adjust to the same diet we have."

David asked "you mean animals? Liz told me about that. She says they don't taste as good but they are more fun to hunt and it helps to keep you from being so wild and makes it a little easier to learn to control your thirst around humans because it kind of separates in your head what is food. I don't know if it is true but she made it sound nice. I'm kind of having a hard time with the whole killing humans thing. It is disturbing to know I'm killing people for their blood."

Carlisle said "we can definitely help you learn control. But as for Liz I suggest taking things slow. She has been hurt and it will take time for her to get over it."

David said "I know. I have known Liz for awhile she likes to think nothing can touch her but she lets people in far too easily. She told me about when she first met you it wasn't long after her family came back from Asia or something and she had run away. She was hunting a vampire tracking his scent but when she found him he had a human with him and he wasn't trying to kill her this surprised and confused her. She had already decided not to hunt humans anymore but she was still new to it. She had gone a bit wild more animal then person but it was talking to the vampire and human that kind of was the catalyst of her embracing her humanity. She said she kept running into you most of the time you weren't aware of it. She watched you from a distance because you were different. You were a real family and she had never really experienced that before. Her family is all about power and controlling her."

Jasper asked "how long have you know her?"

David said "about a year. She was just a kid when I saw her at the park when I brought my nieces. She looked sad so I talked with her she told me she ran away from home and that she hated her family but she didn't have anywhere to go. I probably shouldn't have but I let her stay with me for awhile. It wasn't long before we became lovers. But one day she just left and left a note that said she was pregnant and she was pretty sure her family knew where she was and she had to make sure they never got to the baby. I guess she must have come here. It was stupid but I tried to look for her. That is when I was changed. She told me about immortals and how fire was their only weakness. I managed to get my lighter and set the vampire that attacked me on fire before she could kill me Liz told me a bit about vampires so I knew what was happening to me and what I would be like once it was completed. But I never dreamed it would be this hard. I got word about the Volturi coming for you and thought maybe Liz would be here so I came. I'm really glad that all worked out by the way. I would have stayed but Liz had a boyfriend. So, I left. I didn't expect to see her so soon and I still want to kill him for hurting her. All she did was tell him the truth."

Bella said "not everyone can handle the truth when it comes to supernatural beings. So, David where are you from?"

David said "Tennessee, my family has lived there a really long time, generations. We are from Gatlinburg."

Rosalie asked "what is your last name?"

David said "McCarty."

Emmett burst into laughter and Alice said "well that explains a lot."

David asked "what do you mean? What is so funny?"

Esme said "McCarty is Emmett's original last name and he is from Gatlinburg. That plus how similar you look can only mean you are related."

Emmett said "you are probably descended from one of my brothers. Kind of fitting Lucas ended up with us."

David smiled and said "Yeah I guess it is. Look I don't know if Liz told you but there is a chance that the baby she is pregnant with might not be Steve's. It most likely is but there is a chance I'm the father. She is already showing some and she said that didn't happen so soon with Lucas. If it is mine it would have been after I was changed so it might be growing faster. She is constantly thirsty and tired. She is hunting every day and today it was twice a day. If she keeps this up hunting won't be enough for her to sustain and the farther she goes along who knows if she could keep hunting."

Carlisle said "we will help her with it and I will keep a close eye on her."

Rosalie smiled and said "there is going to be another baby in the house."

Edward asked "where are we going to put everyone we are running out of space."

David said "I don't mind sharing with Liz. In fact I wanted to talk to all of you about something. I want to marry her. I haven't asked her yet. She is still getting over Steve and well I'm still a newborn. But well eventually I want to marry Liz."

Alice said excitedly "another wedding I can't wait I can already see the dress. Seeing things involving Liz is difficult but the dress is clear."

Carlisle said "Son you have our blessing but take it slow she has been hurt."

Alice was circling David and said "you are exactly the same size as Emmett. Alright does anyone want to come with me?"

Rosalie said "I will come I need to get a few things myself."

They kissed their husbands and left.

David asked "what was that about?"

Bella said "Shopping. Alice has a mental disorder that makes her believe she has to treat everyone like a barbie doll. You are no exception."

Jasper said "Alice likes to shop is all just because you don't doesn't mean there is anything wrong with her."

Esme said "she does have good taste too."

Carlisle said "I should go and get supplies if Liz is thirsty I need to make sure she has enough blood on hand. David we have human friends that visit nearly everyday if you feel like you can't control yourself around them we would appreciate you leaving while they are here and if you can control yourself you can wear contacts until your eye change to gold."

Bella said "he means my dad and his girlfriend Sue. Sue knows about us but Dad only knows we are different he doesn't want to know any details. If you like you can always wait in our cottage."

Edward said "speaking of our cottage Nessie will be up soon we should get back to her."

David asked "you left your daughter alone."

Bella said "Jacob is with her. But we like to be there when she wakes up."

David asked "does Jacob live with you too. I never really understood that."

Bella said "officially he lives on the res with his dad and sister but he spends nearly all of his time here with Renesmee. He is also the Alpha of his own pack. Liz is a member of his pack. We should tell you about the treaty too."

Carlisle said "yes if you are going to stay with us you will have to honor the treaty. It is rather simple we don't go on their land to hunt and only go on the res with permission and we don't bite humans. We had to get special permission to bite Bella to save her life. Mostly we don't interact much with the pack with the exception with Jacob and Liz.

Edward and Bella left as did Carlisle.

Liz woke to a cold touch on her wrist she smiled at Carlisle and asked "so what is the verdict doc? Am I still alive?"

Carlisle chuckled and said "very much so. How are you feeling?"

Liz said "very thirsty."

Carlisle said "for venom or blood."

Liz said "Blood."

Carlisle asked "are you hungry at all."

Liz said "no just thirsty. I should go hunting. I think I am bigger then I was last night."

Carlisle said "yes you are. You won't be able to hunt for too much longer if you keep growing at this rate. I stocked up on supplies for you when the time comes."

Liz hugged him and said "you think of everything don't you. Did David leave already?"

Carlisle said "he is still here. Now go hunt we will have to talk when you get back."

Liz left the house through her window. Carlisle took the vials of blood he had taken from her to his office and tested them. Then he picked up the phone and dialed it Carlisle said "Steve I know you don't want to hear from me but I though you should know Liz's baby isn't yours it is her former boyfriends, the same father as Lucas."

Lucas said "thanks for letting me know."

Then he hung up and breathed a sigh of relief that his kid wouldn't be a monster. Then he put the last box in the moving van. The Cullen's had funded his move to New York and his ability to afford a place to live and Liz had helped him be able to enroll in Culinary school so he would give them his silence but hopefully he would never have to see any of them ever again. He was leaving Forks and never looking back.

Liz came back to the house just as Alice and Rosalie pulled up to the house she hugged them both Rosalie said "you are getting pretty big already."

Liz said "I know I think David is the father not Steve."

Alice said "he told us."

Emmett, David and Jasper came out to bring in the bags.

Liz said "you are still here."

David said "Yeah I'm going to be staying if it is alright with you."

Liz said "sounds good to me. So, Em any good games on."

Emmett smiled and said "I think we can find something."

When they went inside Renesmee and Lucas ran to Liz Nessie said "you came back."

Liz said "yes I did."

Lucas said "you got fat."

Liz said "yes I did that too and I am going to get bigger. I am going to have a baby and it will probably look a lot like you."

Nessie asked "you are going to have a baby?"

Liz said "yes I am."

Nessie said "but you aren't married who is going to be the daddy if you aren't married."

Liz said "I don't know Sweetheart."

David said "I'm the daddy and Liz and I are going to get married after the baby is born."

Liz looked up at him with wonder and asked "we will?"

David said "yes if it is alright with you. This isn't how I intended to ask but will you marry me?"

Liz looked around at her family and stopped at Alice who looked like she was about to wet herself.

Liz said "alright on one exception. Alice gets to plan the whole thing."

David kissed her and said "I will get you a ring as soon as I can."

Liz said "there is no rush and I'm sure if you need any help Alice would be happy to help you pick anything out. She is good at that sort of thing. I should let the packs know I am back."

Edward said "they already know Jacob was here earlier and we told him he let the wolves know. He said not to come on the res while you are pregnant and so thirsty."

Liz said "alright probably smart we don't want to slip up on the Res. Lets find a game to watch."
