Filius looked at the letter in his hand, and he had to sit down. It was like all the air had left his body in a loud whoosh. Filius couldn't believe what he was reading. How could it be true?

"Oh, Lily," Filius whispered under his breath. "How I wish things had gone differently. You had so much to live for."

The letter that said his favourite student, a Charms prodigy, was dead was like an arrow straight to his heart. He couldn't believe it was true; it had to be a lie. Lily Evans couldn't be dead!

Filius stood up and moved around his office, trying to wrap his mind around the news. He knew no one would lie about something so serious like this, but he still had trouble coming to terms with it. Filius decided to try to work on something that would honour one of his best students.

"May Merlin and Morgana bless your soul," Filius said under his breath, trying to fight the tears. "You'll be missed."
