TRIBULATION
chapter four confused
A blue light shines against Caroline's ivory skin as tears pour out of her eyes. She tried distracting herself by watching a movie since her father passed away about four days ago. She is crying but doesn't know why. Him and her were never closed, he left her when she was a child and kept contact only when he felt like it.
Yet the pain of loss rushed into her fragile heart. She is crying for a father that she never had but it is not like they had a future of bonding as apparently he loathes vampires. She shut her laptop as she felt sick. She rushed to her bathroom as she felt light headed.
Can a vampire even get a light head? She thought to herself as she crouched down in pain. Her head was spinning as she felt herself collapse to the floor. A gagging sensation was rushed to her throat as she coughed out blood.
Confusion settles into her, aren't vampires supposed to be immune to everything? A nagging voice hit her as she has not drank blood in over two days. But still don't vampires have at least a form of immunity?
She sighs and wishes that there was a guide to be a vampire as she was stuck to do it all alone. She curled up the cold tile bathroom floor feeling helpless in life. Maybe she is not getting better because she is just ignoring everything.
But still it has been awhile, she should have some form of ability to be comfortable with being touched. She stood up as she heard a light knock. Using all her strength she slowly made her way downstairs.
Opening there was no one there but a big box, she grabbed the box inside the living room
Caroline narrowed her eyes as she opened it with an envelope on top. Opening the envelope she read the words, Please join the Mikaelson Family, this evening at seven'oclock.
Caroline set the note aside as in the box was a beautiful mix of blues and silver embillsmesht on a corset, with a beautiful fluffy dress. She stared in awe at how beautiful the dress was.
She mentally noted that she wants to design a similar dress but maybe in the color lilac with more ruffles. She set the dress down as her insecurities rushed into her, should she even go?
Moving herself to the kitchen she grabbed a blood bag and forced down her throat as she would need energy. Maybe tonight could be a special night for her. She moves back up stairs taking the box with her as she pops down on her vanity.
She put on light makeup as she wore a shiny pink gloss on her plump lips. She had her hair up in a braid bun with two blonde strands in front of her face. She gave herself a nod of determination as she made her way out. Arriving at the mansion, Caroline immediately felt eyes on her.
Caroline saw him in his tuxedo, her breath stopped in her throat. All of her recollections paled in comparison to the stunning man approaching her. She took a big breath and gulped before approaching him. She came to a halt just in front of him.
Caroline smiled at him as she whispered a small hi. He chuckled at her, "Hello, Love. Will you like to have this dance?"
Caroline gave him a small smile ready to reject as she did not feel comfortable being touched but the hopefulness in his eyes made her feel guilty if she said no. She gave a small nod as she grabbed his hand, taking deep breaths so she wouldn't flinch.
Klaus guided Caroline to the dance floor. Caroline felt a heat fill her body as she felt Klaus's arm on her. He gave her a soft look, "I heard about your father."
Caroline knew he meant well. She swallowed very heavily as she was not ready, "Please, change the subject."
Klaus nodded. "Very well" He replied, knowing how hurt she must be. "Onto more pressing matters, such as how ravishing you look this evening." He said seductively.
Caroline averted her eyes and blushed at the compliment as she let out a small laugh, "Thank you, but I didn't have time to shop."
Klaus smiled at her response. "And the bracelet I gave you, what is your excuse for wearing that?"
Caroline let out a little chuckle, "It matched the dress, and I thought it was fitting for the evening. Also I never said thank you, so thank you for the bracelet."
Klaus gave her nod as he twirled, "You know you are quite the dancer."
Caroline stared into his gorgeous blue orbs, as she gave him a proud smile. "Well, I've had training. I happen to be Miss Mystic Falls."
"I know."
Caroline narrows her eyes as they continued to dance. The song eventually as Caroline pulled away giving him a gentle smile. She walked outside and found horses. She took deep breaths as she did not once flinched but then again it was just certain touch that triggered her.
She let out a smile as she took in the horse beauty. She heard footsteps and knew it was him.
"You like horses?" He asked in a whisper to her ear. She felt a shiver run through her body. She took a deep breath and gave him a nod then paused to look at him, "Why did you invite me here?"
Klaus smiled at her a rare smile that he never shows but for her he found himself showing, "I fancy you. Is that so hard to believe?"
She froze, not understanding why he of all people likes her? She is nothing special and is pretty ordinary and broken. He has been alive for thousands of years and she knows he deserves better than her, "Yes."
Klaus insteadly replied seriously, "Why? You're beautiful. You're strong. You're full of light. I enjoy you."
Caroline dipped her head and tried to hide her blush, and the gleam of happiness she knew was in her eyes. But she lets out a shaky breath as she is not what he says she is.
She sighs but thankfully he changed the conversation, "You know horses are the opposite of people. My father hunted me for a thousand years and the closest he ever came was when he killed my favorite horse. He severed its neck as a warning."
Caroline felt a tug of ache for him as she knows. She sighs as a random advice pops in her head, "Did you ever consider sitting down with your father and talking it out?"
Klaus shook his head, "No, I'm afraid my relationship with my father was a little more complex than yours."
Caroline nodded in understanding. "I get you in a way. I am mourning for a father that I never had."
Silence fell upon them as she remembered his first question, "And to answer your question, yes I like horses."
He smiled at her, "Shall we go inside? My mother is giving a toast to our family."
Caroline nodded as she grabbed his hand and they headed inside. They entered the ballroom as Klaus' mother came down the stairs. Waiters came around and handed out champagne.
They drank the glass as suspiciousness fills her in as her friends, well more Bonnie stood there in guilt. She shook it off as Klaus motioned her to follow him. She lets him take her glass and set it down. She followed him out of the room.
They had walked into a room, which is more of an art studio filled with different beautiful paintings. She admired all of them as she really just sketches clothing pieces— she can not draw a flower to save her life.
She smiled in admiration as she turned to Klaus who was staring at her, "What did you want to show me?"
"One of my passions" He replied proudly.
Caroline's widened at his hidden talent. Whoever thought that the big bad hybrid will be into art, She let out a little teasing smile, "Ah, impressive, I take it the curators of the Louvre aren't on vervain."
"Yeah, well that's their mistake." He said with a small laugh. She laughed with him. She held out her wrist, "What about these? Where did you steal this from?"
Klaus looked down at her wrist. "Well, that is a long story." He replied, turning towards her. She smiled, and cocked her head, "But I assured you it was worn by a princess almost as beautiful as you."
Klaus flushed as Caroline realized it took every bit of courage he had to tell her that. She smiled and blushed at the thought of the power she had over him but did not understand why he was so into her. She looked down at the pictures before her, "Did you do these?"
Klaus eyed at the piece she was looking at, "Yeah, actually, one of my landscapes is hanging in the hermitage, but not that anyone would notice."
Caroline looked amazed how he was able to leave a piece of his work for the world to see. Klaus moved next to her, "Have you been?"
She shook her head, she never really has thought about going anywhere besides staying in her bedroom where it is safe, "I have never actually been anywhere."
"I'll take you. Where ever you want, Rome, Paris, Tokyo?"
Caroline had a small smile on her as she knew he meant his word but she is not worth it. He honestly deserves someone better who is not used. She turned to see a colorful piece yet something dark about it that made her want to cry on the spot.
Caroline let out a breathe for a minute, made herself go blank, and then Klaus had gently put her hair back and she closed her eyes as she flinched.
She opened her eyes as his eyes held confusion, she needed to get out of there, a sob caught up her throat as her voice became shaky, "I'm.. I'm sorry."
Caroline ran out of there before he could stop her, she noticed when she was about to exit Damon was glaring at her. Her mind flashed when he would play with her hair.
She forced her mind back from the hole of her heart. She needed to leave if not she was going to throw up not knowing if it was possible.
She exited the mansion flashing home as she completely collapsed on the floor hysterically crying on the floor. She could smell the salty scent of her tears coming from her as her chest ached as she felt ugly, tired, broken, and numb.
Caroline had to close her eyes for a minute before the ripples of it calmed and everything became fuzzy again. It was better like that. Almost peaceful. She wondered what it was like turning it all off and not feeling any of it.
It was as if a corner of her mind had been just waiting for that thought because as soon as it came her mind, she found herself wanting to end it all. But she couldn't be that weak, because her human self did not have that ability to turn it off then why should her vampire self have that?
She wasn't religious but she prayed to get better, at whoever was out there, because at this point anything was truly possible. Caroline let out a great heaving sob, letting the tears come. She was so tired of crying. And yet she couldn't seem to stop. She forced herself to go to the bathroom, washing off her makeup and combing her hair out.
She put on pajamas as she crawled in bed. Shut her eyes as darkness consumed her. When morning arrived, she found a black jewelry box sitting on her bed. She narrowed her eyes as grabbed the box. She opened it up, she unraveled the paper, she found a picture of her and a horse.
Thank you for your companionship. Sorry if I did anything to upset you.
-Klaus
Caroline shut her eyes as she did not mean to hurt him. She sighs as she should aplogize to him as he did nothing to her it was just her stupid self that was ruining everything.
