The girls never made the dessert, or rather never had the opportunity to. After that damned man had decided to reveal their presence, practically the whole market was in their space. Gifts, compliments, courtesies, and more flooded the rest of their evening. They were grateful that they managed to make it home in one piece.

Sakura sat by her large window. Stretching to nearly every corner of the wall. The night's sky seemed particularly dark. Her heart raced. She disliked the dark very much. She leaned forward against the cool glass, trying her hardest to see the especially faint stars more vividly. It did not work. In a huff, she moved to the far left of the window and released a steel clasp. A small gust of wind blew her hair as a tiny opening of the window cracked and was exposed by the sudden movement. She shivered as she pulled it further to the left, causing fresh air to swarm around her. Pleased, Sakura smiled, she did not appreciate barriers, even if small, between her and nature. Now, it seemed, with the fuzziness of the glass gone, she could finally admire the lights scattered across the atmosphere. Sucking in a deep breath and holding it, Sakura carefully threw her legs over the rim of her window pane, now dangling vulnerably in the air, hundreds of feet above ground in her castle.

Satisfied, she exhaled. Or, she tried to. Her eyes widened as her breath was stuck in her mouth, which was not opening. 'What?' She thought, panicking. She could not let out the air in her lungs, two, three, and soon five seconds passed and she could not move her aching lips, nor her legs at all, those of which were in a very dangerous position. Her chest was starting to hurt and her eyes watered as her head followed suit, becoming warmer by the second. 'I cannot breathe! Why won't my cursed mouth open? I am going to pass out or…' Now panicking more than before at the weight of her current situation, sakura blinked fiercely, the only action her body would make. But to no avail, nothing worked and she started to feel heavier.

Tears began piling up at the corners of her eyes, she was expecting the unexpected in appalling fear. Sakura closed her eyes, letting the water finally roll down her porcelain cheeks when abruptly a voice blasted in her head.

'Know your place.'

Sakura's eyes flew open once again in shock. Suddenly her mouth finally opened, a gust of harsh air flying out, causing her shoulders to shoot up and her body to fly backward mercilessly to the ground of her room. She desperately exhaled, her chest heaving strongly as she finally was able to move her body at her own will again. She sat up, clamping her fragile hand over her mouth. What had just happened? Who said that? Were they the reason her body would not obey her instincts? If so, how was it even possible? Had she hallucinated the whole thing?

Droplets were still sliding down her face when her room's doors flew open. She turned slightly to see Karin and Ino rushing up to her. One look and they knew something off had happened. Ino ran to the front of Sakura, pulling her up by her arms. "Sakura! What happened to you? We heard a loud crash and rushed to you immediately!" She breathed, exasperated. Sakura was shaking in her grip and Ino pulled her close, enveloping her fragile frame. "Hush now. It's okay, whatever happened to you, it's okay now." Ino assured her softly, noting her silent tears.

Sakura accepted the comfort. Just a moment ago, she believed she might have incredulously fallen to unexpected death. As Karin observed their actions, she quickly analyzed the room, looking for anything that might have caused Sakura's bewilderment when a gust of air drew her attention to the window opposite her stance. She narrowed her eyes and anger instantly filled her. She whipped her head back towards Sakura, roughly yanking her away from Ino's hold and turning her towards herself.

Sakura stared at her, baffled. She had not anticipated much of the night, most definitely not this. "You foolish klutz!" She spat. Sakura furrowed her brows at her sudden insult. Karin was glaring at her now. "You worried us so, why? Because you were doing the one thing we always warn you not to? We have repeatedly reminded you that one of these days, you hanging out that damned window will cause you to fall, and look at you now! You are so very lucky that you fell backward!" She struck her finger to the left, pointing at the open window. Ino now noticed it as well. Widening her eyes, she clutched a hand and gaped at her younger sister.

"Sakura!" She practically screeched in clear disappointment and worry.

Sakura opened her mouth to speak but Karin silenced her, clutching her shoulders harder. "You need to start acting your age, Sakura! In just four months, you will be eighteen. Now is not the time to act so reckless!" She yelled, startling her even more.

Sakura balled her fists, looking pointedly at Karin, growing impatient. "Would you please let me explain myself?" Karin did not deny nor grant her request, simply glaring on. Sakura huffed, looking at the window. "I did not fall back! I was pushed!" She pleaded. Both elder sisters were now looking at her, visibly confused. "I was just wanting to get some fresh air, so I sat on the window pane. I breathed in and suddenly, I- It was like I could not breathe out! I was like that for at least a whole minute. I could not even move my body!" She threw her arms out as if to display the extremity of what had just happened to her.

Karin froze and then scoffed. The corners of her lips raised in a displeased smile. "You expect us to believe that? You could not move? Sakura, if you are embarrassed at your carelessness, it's best not to lie. You can only make things worse for your laughable state." She crossed her arms over her chest and continued to scowl at Sakura.

Sakura's eyes shot open immediately. They did not believe her? She understood that her story was strange but she has never lied to her sisters in the past. Surely they should trust her word. Then she remembered another important element of what just happened. She shook her head and looked back at Ino and Karin. "Wait! I know it is hard to understand but there's something else!" Though her face was hopeful and full of sincerity, neither Ino nor Karin was willing to be convinced.

Before Sakura could continue, Karin held her hand up to stop her persistent state. "Save it, sister. Whatever it is you think will make us feel sorry for you again, it will not. Please discontinue this ridiculous story of yours and learn to be more careful." She raised an eyebrow as Sakura gaped at her. She opened her mouth to speak.

"But–"

"I said save it! I have had quite enough of you today Sakura! I suggest you also go to bed. You are clearly in need of some rest to clear that mind of yours." She walked up and lightly pecked her on the head, then swiftly turned around and exited the room.

Sakura's eyebrows furrowed in defeat. She whipped her head to Ino. At her glance, she stiffened and shrugged. "Please, Ino, I am not lying. I am not making it up! Yes, I was sitting on that window dangerously, but that is not why I fell." Sakura tilted her head as if to see if she was getting across to her, but to no mercy, Ino's face knotted into a scrunch. She shook her head slowly and dragged out a long exhale. Sakura's face dropped. Even Ino could not find it inside herself to accept that maybe what she was saying was true. Did she have herself to blame?

Ino frowned and walked forward, placed a hand on Sakura's shoulder, and used another to tuck a strand of her blushed hair behind her ear. "I think you just had a very frightful experience. You could have died sakura. Otherwise, your story makes no sense other than being forced from shock. Take Karin's advice. Sleep, you are not in a sensible condition right now." She, too, kissed Sakura on the temple and nodded solemnly, trudging out of her room.

Sakura was left speechless, standing in her room. She pressed her lips into a flat line and looked shamefully at the ground. Maybe she was just seeing things. Perhaps she simply just fell back and her mind came up with an experience as a result of her sudden prostration. Wrapping her arms around her cold waist, she made slow steps to her washroom. Taking a quick look around, she decided that she needed a bath. To help soothe her aching thoughts. After requesting a server's assistance with setting up a wash, and waiting patiently, she was finally able to dip her exhilarated body in the warm, calming water.

Leaning her head back and closing her heavy eyelids, Sakura finally was able to relax. She even managed to crack a small smile at the pacifying scent of lavender soap. For the first time that day, Sakura let her guard down and allowed herself to sleep.

Whispers from a strong, feminine, horrifying-yet-beautiful voice seemed to fill her dreams.

Her first warning had been placed.

It was risky, Tsunade knew that. A god isn't supposed to harm a mortal without confrontation or reason, but it was necessary. Very. And admittedly, the shocked look on Sakura's face had been enough to assure the god that she'd been startled. Sakura may not know exactly why she was being threatened or who was threatening her, but if she were to use that large mind of hers, she may just get the clue to be wary, and in other words: know her place.

If she didn't see a change in her worship soon, there were going to be more consequences. Tsunade had no room to be pushed aside or merely forgotten at the cause of a mortal. No right.

And Sakura may not understand the situation at hand fully, but every mortal knows that they are not to be worshiped, yet Sakura, who doesn't invite praise, also doesn't deny it. And that is a sin in Tsunade's eyes. In every god's eyes. One that, oblivion or not, has every right to its given punishment: death.

And when there's no more precious, "gorgeous, glorious, outstanding" Sakura Haruno on the earth, the attention is back on the love deity. The true beholder of beauty.

Needless to say, Tsunade wouldn't mind the latter, the easy solution to this mess that befalls upon her.

The morning following Sakura's incident, her father, king of Konohagakure, Kakashi Haruno, visited her room.

He walked in while she was still sleeping soundlessly on the covers of her bed. Karin and Ino had hesitantly informed him of the events the night prior and urged him to discuss some sense with her.

When he had learned what had happened, and that it was surely a result of Sakura's carelessness, he had been so livid. The thought of losing her was a grinding pain against his heart. Knowing how close she had been to her demise just a handful of hours earlier sent chills down his spine. Kakashi could not lose another cherished person in his life. Most especially not his child, his daughter, most especially not Sakura. And most certainly not to foolishness. He too, like her sisters, had warned and reminded the girl thousands of times not to sit on her window. She was on one of the highest floors of the castle, there was no need for such risk if she can simply get fresh air from the safe elevation of her feet on solid ground.

Yet, while anger swirled through his veins, he couldn't let it consume him too long as he basked in glory at the sight of his youngest daughter asleep. Her green spheres were hidden behind porcelain lids that fluttered in her sleep. She was tucked on her side, back to her window. Her sheet was pulled almost completely over her, shielding her soft neck. Spring strands of hair spilled over her shoulders onto the covers and her face. Her lips were tucked firmly shut, and her cheek was pressed tightly against her cushion. All the while, the morning sunlight blanketed her form, exploding into shards of white-yellow, making her peeks of skin appear gold against the gray-lit room. For he could not stay mad, because the sight before him was a creation like no other. It was beautiful by every definition of the word.

He would curse Aphrodite and say it again. It was too condemned and true.

And though he would love to marvel at her presence for more time, and appreciate the wonders of his youngest child longer, there was a discussion to be had, and she needed to listen. For her damned safety.

So warily, he strode to her bedside and lightly shook her arm. Her eyes moved beneath the lids restlessly for a few moments until finally, they popped open, and Kakashi was granted the privilege to once again look into her green irises. She drowsily made strict eye contact with her father and a small smile grew on her lips. "Heya' pa," she mumbled, moving slowly so that she was propped up on her elbows. Kakashi backed up a few inches to give her space. "It's nice waking up to you again. You never wake me up these days," she said through a low yawn.

A pang of guilt stabbed right at his heart because of that statement. He knew that wasn't her intention, but regardless, it still hurt. He mentally made a note to start greeting her more often in the mornings. "Ah yes. That's my downfall I suppose," he agreed and sat at the foot of her bed while she sat up against her bed frame.

"Well," she began, "good morning then. Is everything alright?" Sakura questioned and beamed at him in the adrenaline making its way through her veins due to the fresh light of day. Her hair fell messily onto her shoulders and strands stood up at the back of her head. Once again, Kakashi took pride in his beautiful yet childish creation.

"I wanted to address something before I'm swamped with my work today. I thought it best to talk about it early," he stated. Cautious.

"Oh okay, well hurry and discuss it, because you're taking your time Pa." She crossed her arms, wary.

Kakashi exhaled and his eyebrows knitted together. "Sakura, your sisters tell me that last night you nearly killed yourself. That you were sitting on your window again." Sakura's eyes widened and suddenly a pink tint formed over her cheeks. She opened her mouth to speak but before she could, Kakashi continued. "I don't think you quite grasp how simply dumb that was. You could have died Sakura. And I can't lose you. We can't lose you, ever. There's no room for this foolish desire of yours to 'live your life on the edge' because it feels nice. Not when you matter so much so," he lectured quickly, stating each sentence with sternness.

Sakura inhaled. The whole time he'd been talking, she'd been growing more enraged. 'Damned tattle tails she thought and envisioned her two sisters. She closed her eyes to compose what she wanted to say and finally resumed eye contact with her father. "I didn't lose my balance and fall. I tried telling them that. I was pushed." She insisted. Hands balled into fists as they gripped her sheets.

Kakashi frowned. "You were pushed?" he repeated, incredulous.

"Yes! I promise. I'll take full responsibility for sitting on the window, but it wasn't by my own 'foolish accord' that I fell," Sakura seethed, already expecting he wouldn't believe her.

The concern was evident as his frown turned into a deep scowl. "How exactly would you be pushed if no one was in the room with you, Sakura?" he asked.

Sakura crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at her father. "Do you promise to at least try to believe me?" she retorted cautiously.

"Yes. I promise to try," Kakashi beckoned, head nodding exasperatedly.

Sakura leaned forward. "I had pulled the window aside for some fresh air. I sat down, legs dangling and all, and I was fine. Next thing I know, as I'm taking in a deep breath, all of a sudden, it was like I couldn't breathe back out," she began.

Kakashi straightened himself. "What?"

"Yes. Listen. I was like that for at least a full minute, to the point that it felt like I would pass out. I thought my inability to breathe would be what threatened my life the most, not my position." Sakura closed her eyes in frustration. "Then, out of nowhere, I heard a voice, not aloud, but in my head." Her eyes opened again and she glanced at her father. "It was almost convicting; the tone. And then, I felt my body be swooshed backward and I landed back in my room, finally able to catch my breath." Her eyes warily surveyed Kakashi.

Another wave of worry hit him. "You heard a voice?" he then interrogated, widely suspicious. In her head?

"Yes. And it sounded like it was a woman speaking, but it happened so fast at the moment so I'm not quite sure," Sakura beamed, glad he seemed to believe her, or at the very least, have a hint of concern.

"What did the 'voice' say?" Millions of theories sparked in his head, most were scaring him.

"Know your place." Sakura mimicked chills running down her spine by simply just repeating the statement.

"Oh no." Kakashi suddenly breathed, terror seeming to travel throughout his features. Sakura's face dropped.

"'Oh no?' What's 'oh no?' Pa' what's wrong?" She shifted forward, grabbing his arm in fear. Kakashi placed his palm over her hand on his limb.

"Sakura, you remember my teachings of the gods when you were young don't you?" he asked her tentatively.

Sakura's eyebrows knit together. "Yes, I do. Why are you bringing that up now?"

"Sakura, can you retell me their abilities please?"

"Wha– why?" she fumbled, leaning backward slightly.

"Just do what I ask," Kakashi said, strictly gazing at his youngest daughter, a grimace taking over his face.

Sakura frowned. "Gods can grant your wishes if they feel they are deserved. They control the seasons, the food, our famines even. They control our crops and our livestock. They watch over our lands, they punish, sometimes by death. They control and delegate sex, love, and beauty. They can talk to you, but only if you venture to the temples of those who wish to use that ability. They can also speak to you through your mind," Sakura recited, remembering new fragments as she spoke.

Kakashi turned fully towards Sakura. "Dear, repeat your last sentence for me."

Sakura raised a brow. "They can also speak to you through your mind."

Suddenly it clicked, and her face dropped. Kakashi nodded his head apprehensively.

Worry drowned her eyes. "Father, what have I done?" she asked, true oblivion and fear rising.
