Exiting the plane, Josh took Maya's hand as they shared a comforting look. Josh landed the plane in a forest just outside an abandoned warehouse in Chicago. They were surrounded by both dense and sparse trees as the wind blew lightly. Josh's brown hair moved ever so slightly while Maya's blonde hair flew back with the wind. "So this is where the Professor tracked him at?" Maya nodded. Squeezing his girlfriend's hand, he took a deep breath. "Let's do this."
Maya led the way, her defense was up as she pushed the door open to the empty warehouse. The door creaked open as her hand gently pushed on it, exposing layers of dust and grime inside the space. As the pair took careful steps inside a few bats flew through one of the open windows, startling them. Maya nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of them and let out a shaky breath as she felt Josh squeeze her hand again, trying to assure her. They continued to walk, now in the middle of the room when Maya stiffened. She pulled Josh into her tight as she spoke under her breath. "There's someone else here."
Josh let go of Maya's hand and placed his hand at his waist, gripping the gun that he placed in there earlier. Back to back, their eyes each darted around, tracking everything in the space, trying to detect any sudden movements. Crash! At that sound, Josh pulled out his gun skillfully and Maya flashed open the palms of her hands as they moved in a circle, making quick and calculated movements. Being the one who faced the sound, Josh shot blindly into the darkness of the space, determination across his face. As he fired another, the bullet escaped the end of the gun, gliding through the space only to stop mid air. "Maya," he whispered. "Look."
Maya removed herself from Josh's back and looked in his direction. Her eyes widened as she stared at the bullet that was suspended in mid-air. "Please tell me you're the one doing that."
Josh rolled his eyes, his snarky side coming out. "Don't you think I'd tell you if I was!"
Maya glared at him as she heard another deep voice speak. "Humans. So primitive. With their weapons and guns and bullets. I mean really, there was no other way for you to determine what was here?" The pair looked around in search of the voice. Scanning every wall, they saw nothing. "Allow me to put you out of your misery." Suddenly the once suspended bullet dropped to the ground.
A tall man with fair skin and blonde hair creeped out of the shadows that Josh once shot into. A wicked grin was plastered on his face as he smirked at the two. Noting the bravery on ones face and the shock on the other. "Who the hell are you?" Josh asked, stroked with bravery as he stepped in front of Maya.
The man stroked the beard that lay carefully trimmed on his face. Smiling, he looked at them. "Listen homo sapien," he hissed. "This doesn't concern you. As far as I'm concerned you are collateral damage. You aren't one of us." He took a step towards Josh and clenched his jaw. Using his powers, he pulled the gun out of Josh's hand and cocked it in front of his head, aiming it directly between the eyes. The gun floated in front of Josh as he started to sweat. "What's to keep me from pulling this trigger?"
"Enough." Maya broke her silence as he chest heaved up and down from breathing so hard. The man smirked at her again and started to pull the trigger. "Dad stop!"
Just as the bullet escaped the clip, he stopped it and allowed it to fall. He turned his focus to Maya and smiled as Josh let out a breath he didn't even mean to hold. "Nice to see you Maya." He looked at Josh and scoffed. "A human? Really. There was no one else you could've possibly been with?"

"Do I have to wear this stupid suit? I thought we were just seeing what the vote was?" Zay struggled with the tie around his neck as he struggled to find room to breathe.
Farkle shook his head and swatted Zay's hand. "We are. But after any one of these votes happens, there's always a big party in some mansion, that every politician will be at. We can get more answers."
Lucas stood behind the Professors chair and ignored the other two men as he pushed him into the halls right above the Congress session. Looking around as the people surrounding them raised eyebrows Lucas bent down to the Professor's ear. "How are we supposed to get through? It seems kind of obvious that we don't belong."
"Don't worry about that. Leave it to me."
They glided into the Senate hall and watched intently as the discussion began to get heated. "Congressman Lee, what you are proposing could endanger the lives of millions of Americans! Forced mutant identification could mean so much more than you know. That's like requiring people to declare their religious beliefs. It is unnecessary and could lead to persecution."
Congressman Lee shook his head. "On the contrary. Shouldn't we as people be allowed to know who it is that lives next door to us? That walks our dogs, delivers our mail? Shouldn't parents be able to discern who it is their child is in class with?"
"Congressman-"
"We as people have a right to know! To my fellow members of Congress, I urge you vote on the right side of history. Give us all the option to choose who it is we share our country with."
The meeting adjourned and Lucas looked to Zay who shared the same nervous look. Things were not going well. Farkle adjusted his suit jacket and looked to the Professor. "Let's go Robert. We have some people we need to speak to before they vote."
Lucas and Zay watched as Farkle wheeled the Professor away. Zay pulled Lucas to the side and nervously looked around them. "I don't like the sound of this man. It sounds like they're really going to vote in favor this bill."
Lucas took a deep breath and tried to calm his friend. "Everything is going to be fine okay? We're going to be able to fix this alright?"
Zay looked at him incredulously. "Lucas how? How do we get around the law? We've already caused a big enough disturbance as it is so how the hell do we get through this?"
Lucas ran his fingers through his hair and took a deep breath. He racked his brain trying to think of what to do. "I'm going to call Riley, try and update her on this. Maybe she has an idea." He pulled out his phone and quickly dialed Riley's number. He held the phone up to his ear as it rang and rang. No answer. "That's weird. She isn't answering."
Well maybe it isn't weird per say, considering their most recent history but it was an important time and she would want an update. "What do you mean?" Zay asked. "She always answers. And she would at a time like this."
"I'm going to try one more time." Again, no answer. This was weird and Lucas did not like it. This was unlike her. Riley was calculated, organized, and reliable. Something was up. "I'm gonna try Charlie." Again, no answer. He took a deep breath and shared a worried look with Zay. "Something is wrong. We need to get back to the school."
When Zay and Lucas turned to go find the Professor and Farkle when suddenly everything went black.

Charlie and Riley managed to gather all the children into a room as Riley quickly wracked her brain, trying to think of what to do. "Riley," Charlie whispered, Marissa still in his arms. He looked at her, his green eyes filled with worry. "We need to get the kids out of here."
Riley's hair had fallen out of its clip as she thought on her feet. Suddenly remembering the panel that was hidden in the downstairs hallway, she smiled. "There's a hidden panel downstairs. Behind it we can lead them all outside."
Charlie liked the plan but there was one flaw in it. The panel was downstairs and they were upstairs and whoever broke into the house was downstairs. "How are going to get downstairs?"
The only way out was down and there was only one way to get through. She looked to Charlie and then to the girl in his arms. "We have a room full of mutants right?" He nodded. "We go first, check out the damage, and make our way to the panel." She looked around at the kids and spotted a boy, about fifteen. "Bobby!" He came over and kneeled down next to his teachers. "Remember what you learned in Lucas's class? I need you to use that and keep everyone in the room until we come back. You're in charge."
Charlie transferred Marissa into his arms and grabbed Riley's hand, momentarily forgetting their conversation from not too long ago. "Sorry," he apologized, dropping her hand.
Riley ignored it and pushed down her guilt as they quietly crept out of the room. "Come on. Let's go."
Despite being clad in their pajamas, Charlie and Riley walked fiercely down the hall and stairs as they were met face to face with dozens of agents, clad in black gear. An agent held up an empty pin as Charlie took note of a grenade flying through the air. "Oh shit." Stretching his arm he caught it and threw it towards the other end of the house, pulling Riley in and covering her as it detonated. Riley looked up, her hair everywhere as Charlie looked down on her. "You alright?"
Shaky, she nodded. "Yeah. Let's keep going."
Riley's eyes glazed to a snowy white as she created a blizzard that whipped the agents around. Pellets of ice and snow hit them as she walked towards them, targeting them one by one. Seeing an agent aim a gun at her from behind Charlie stretched behind and punched the gun out of his hand before rendering him unconscious. The few that were left from Riley's tirade still persisted in their pursuit of them. Engaging in hand to hand combat, the pair fought them off with all the might they had before they took the last of them down. Looking to Riley who stood over an agent's body he asked. "Where's the panel?"
"This way. " Riley ran down the hall and looked over its brown walls. She rammed herself into the wall multiple times before the panel slid open. Holding it open, she looked to Charlie, her chest heaving up and down. "Get the kids."
.:.
Dad? Josh stared in between Maya and the man, who was apparently her father. He took a step towards Maya and spoke hesitantly. "Maya, he's your dad?"
Maya gritted her teeth and stared straight ahead at her father ahead of her. She never thought he'd see him again. "More like sperm donor." The man that stood in front of them was her father. Kermit Hart. He hadn't been in Maya's life since she was young. The last time Maya had seen him she was about seven or eight years old. He was supposed to pick her up from school- he never showed. But that didn't matter. Not in this moment.
Kermit held a hand over his heart and feigned hurt. "Ouch. That one hurt baby girl. Is that really all you have to say about your dear old dad?"
Maya took a step towards her father. "Cut the crap Kermit. Why attack the White House?"
Kermit dodged her question. "How'd you two find me anyways? Wait." He held up a lone finger. "You're working with him. Aren't you?" Maya narrowed her eyes at her father and tried to focus her powers in an effort to read his mind. Blocked. Kermit narrowed his eyes at his daughter. "You are working with him. You're doing the same things he used to try and do to me." He began to pace around, keeping his eyes on his daughter. "He used to try and lead me, sway me in the direction that he wanted me to go in. But I did't let him." He stopped pacing. "How long have you been working with Robert?"
At this moment Josh decided to insert himself into the conversation. Stepping forward next to Maya, he asked, "Wait. You know the Professor?"
Kermit, glared at Josh out of the corner of his eye and rolled his eyes. "Why are you here? You seem to be pretty unnecessary." He turned his body towards him and took menacing steps towards him. "I'm shocked that a human is here without screaming. Normally you all just want us to be extinct. To be out of your way. You view yourselves are superior anyway."
Josh was admittedly intimidated by the man, he did have a gun pointed at his head earlier, but he wasn't going to back down. He straightened up and stared Kermit right in the eye. "Not all of us." They were in each other's faces bearing their teeth before Maya pushed her way through.
"Enough." She said, her blonde hair swinging with her. "That's not what we're here for." She turned to Josh and placed a hand on his chest. "Quit with macho man stuff. We came here for one thing, remember? As for you," she turned towards her father. "Answer my question. Why attack the White House?"
Kermit sighed and looked between his daughter and the brown haired boy. He could see that they cared for each other. "For the same reason I left all those years ago. To protect my people from persecution. Humans will never accept us. They view us as threats. Something they need to control. This is only the first step leading up to a genocide. And I will not sit by and allow it to happen."
The sides of Maya's mouth turned down at his words. For the same reason he left all those years ago. What could that mean? Maya winced as her head started to hurt. They were starting again. The voices she tried so hard to turn down were getting stronger. In fact they were louder now that she was with her father. Clearer, almost calm. Maybe he knew how to help what was going on inside. He was half her DNA after all, maybe he had answers. She felt Josh touch her shoulders as he gripped her tight. "Maya are you okay?"
Josh looked down at her with worry laced within his tone. Kermit's face even showed the slightest bit of concern. He was actually worried, but that didn't matter to Maya. Maya shook the pain away and took a deep breath. "I'm fine." She looked at her dad. "I need to know more. Start talking."
Kermit smirked. "On one condition." Maya rolled her eyes. "You call me dad."
Maya scoffed. "Forget it." Kermit turned and she relented. "Fine." She bit her tongue and adjusted her jacket. "Tell me what you know," Kermit smiled. "Dad."
.:.
Charlie and Riley managed to usher the kids through the panel and outside. They were in the forest behind the school looking on as they watched more and more agents storm the building. Riley quelled the children and stood next to Charlie with her arms crossed over her chest, the chill of the night creating goosebumps along her skin. "Of course the night we're in charge, someone breaks in!" She threw her hands up in frustration. "I mean what the hell could they possibly want?"
Riley stomped off back towards the children, leaving Charlie to stare back at the school by himself. "I have a pretty good idea," he whispered to himself. He ran his tongue along his bottom lip as he nervously looked on. He looked back at Riley and the kids and cursed himself under his own breath. He jogged over to Riley's side and pulled her to him, hugging her close. He placed his lips on Riley's cheek, tenderly kissing it before he whispered in her ear. "We need to talk later." Riley stared at him for a moment, nervous. "But first, I need to get back into the school. I think I know what they're looking for."
Riley frowned and looked back at the children, who looked up at them, watching their every move. She pulled Charlie further away and stared at him confused. "Go back in there? Charlie you can't do that. What if something happens to you?"
"Riley I'll be fine. I just have to do this."
She shook her head and turned back to the kids. "Bobby!" The young man looked up at her. "Watch after everyone. Don't move until we get back. Got it?"
"Riley what are you doing?"
"Isn't obvious? You're not going in there alone. I'm coming with you."
The two looked back at the school, which was crawling with highly skilled operatives and shared a nervous breath as they had to go inside and face whatever was in there and beat them to what they were looking for.
