I don't own Ben 10 or Power Rangers.
You see, everyone's life is a story. There are the good parts, the bad, the beautiful, and sometimes the very, very strange. And when we tell a story, we never tell it the same way twice; within the multiplicity of realities amongst the infinite lies a world where our protagonist, Ben Tennyson, comes across something far more powerful than an Omnitrix.
Bellwood; 9:52PM; January 19th, 2025.
It was a clear night without a cloud in sight, the Moon light encompassing the street where a certain teenager sped as fast as he could down the sidewalk. Avoiding bumps in the concrete and lifting his wheel occasionally to avoid an upheaved slab of sidewalk. He was going to be late for curfew if he didn't speed up, dashing across the concrete one un-leveled slab after another, it wasn't until a flash of white light engulfed his vision which he had to assume was a speeding car.
He skidded his bike horizontally, crashing into the dirt and tumbling on the ground, his emerald jacket and denim jeans preventing him from any road rash. Ben held his head, regretting not using his bike-helmet when he left the house earlier that afternoon, he stood up and dusted himself off. Something was off though.
There seemed to be something smoking on the ground just a hundred or so feet away, he was going to turn back and head home through a different direction. The bright silver glow intimidating him no matter how much he'd deny it, it wasn't until he heard the sounds of audible groans followed by a rough cough that he turned back.
Ben let his curiosity get the better of him, approaching slowly towards what seemed to be a landing site of some sort, a vaporized crater still smoldering around a figure lying in the center. The source of the painful groaning. Benjamin Tennyson was just an average teenage boy; he hadn't even turned seventeen yet; what he was stumbling across could change the course of history fundamentally.
He stood at the edge of the crater, not realizing the dirt wasn't reinforced enough, causing him to slide uncontrollably down into the crater with the figure. It appeared to be a very fit man in a black-armor trimmed with golden designs across the durable weaved suit. "Woah," Ben muttered as he was now only feet from the man he was sure was close to death.
"Y-You there, I sense a n-noble spirit within you," the figure spoke, his voice raspy as he was interrupted coughing up a fair amount of blood. He reached out with the last of his strength, grabbing Ben's hand and forcing his palm opened, he clutched his hand tightly for him leaving a crystal in his grasp.
"Who are you?! What the heck is this?" Ben felt the heat from the crystal in his hand, "It's a Zeo Crystal… I was once known as t-the Zeta Ranger. Y-You have to, t-to protect the innocent, the world; I came from the future, you have to p-ro-prote-" his last words went unfinished as he drew his final breath. It was dark, so Ben couldn't see the blood spilling from his abdomen into the dead leaves. Ben immediately pulled out his phone, almost dropping it before calling his cousin whom he trusted with his life, pulling out his cellphone and dialing before another development occurred right before him.
The crystal in his hand suddenly transmutated, into a watch-like device on either of his wrists, trimmed with black and gold; he was suddenly flooded with knowledge he never could have dreamed of. Distant galaxies, the history of the Power Rangers including the likes of Rita Repulsa, Dark Specter, Mesogaug, Lothor… the true mission this guy was stranded here in the first place to achieve. Viewing through alternate dimensions, different timelines, a whole cavalcade of Rangers across the Multiverse. He began to become dizzy at first, before toppling over and passing out into the dead leaves, the dead-body dematerialized and vanished from sight with Ben passed out in his place. The golden-morphers on his wrists glimmering in the Moon light falling slack by his side.
…
Ben's eyes snapped open when he was nudged in the shoulder by something dainty but, firmly prepared to hit him harder, "Five minutes, Mom," though this excuse didn't fly as he was suddenly kicked lightly in the back, waking him up entirely. "I'm up! I'm up…" he held the back of his head where he'd assumed he must have hit when he fell over. He glanced up at two figures, one being the cousin he dialed up before passing out, a fraternal twin with dark-auburn short hair wearing a teal crop-top and jeans. "Hey, dweeb, you called me and then screamed and then hung up," she looked down on him with an almost annoyed expression, however; it also seemed like she had dealt with something like this before coming from Ben.
She helped him up to his feet, brushing the leaves out of his hair, "You were gone all night, what happened?" she asked folding her arms with concern, her bright emerald eyes only a shade lighter than his own glaring daggers back at him for the truth.
"It was nuts, there was this flash of light and then this guy-" he turned to the crater embedded in the ground which had become just an empty trench.
"Did you get hit by a car?" Gwen asked as she took a step forwards, glancing into the menial-pit on the side of the road.
Ben shook his head, and as he closed his eyes he saw the flashes of images again, like being downloaded with information, "There was a Power Ranger here, he was hurt a-and I was going to help him out but, he gave me this in-" he looked at his hands for the first time since regaining consciousness, discovering the shard was gone now left with two new devices strapped oddly to his wrists, "-stead."
"A Power Ranger? You know those are legends right? They don't exist," Gwendolyn argued, finding herself worried that he may have suffered a severe head injury, "Where did you get these?" her attention turned to the devices on his wrists.
"See? I don't even really know yet," Ben exclaimed looking them over intently, trying to find a 'Made in China' imprint somewhere across its silver-band. Though it also seemed far too sturdy and even a bit heavy to be just made of plastic like a children's toy replica.
Gwen shook her head and gripped the bag she'd laid down to tend to her unconscious cousin, "Whatever, we can't be late for class on the first day, c'mon."
Ben noticed his bike was nowhere to be found so, he simply walked beside her, "Class? Right, first day of junior year, yay me," still being confused by the events the night prior, he figured he must have hit his head harder than he thought.
…
Just Outside Of Earth Orbit
A mass of sickening toxic green energy swirled attempting to form some sort of wormhole. There was an enraged shout coming from within the mass of energy, "I will be free!" A deepened threatening voice echoing even through the vacuum of space. "Damn it all, my dimensional prison is still far too unstable for a creature of my power to cross through!"
After giving it pensive thought, the voice spoke up again through the mass of swirling energy, "Perhaps I can send a warrior from my army to acquire the power for me on this plentiful planet," its sickening crimson eyes were the only part of it visible through the unstable gateway.
With less power to process, a mass of glistening energy flew from the vortex and slammed onto an asteroid floating only a few hundred feet away. White armor trimmed with black-cackling energy; a warrior indeed stood kneeling before the portal.
"Lord Daagon, you have summoned me to the mortal plane to assist you, how may I be of service?" Holding an arm across his chest and on one knee, he held his head down as the Daagon spoke up.
"Find me the greatest source of energy in the Universe, I sense it here on this world," his voice bellowed demanding respect.
"Of course, Master, I'll seek out the greatest energies in Earth and ensure they're suitable for you!"
"Go, now Dread Knight, should you fail me, you know what awaits you in the pits…" Daagon warned ominously.
"Yes, of course, Lord Daagon."
…
Ben attempted to go about his normal life but, something felt completely different about his body. He knew puberty was supposed to change his body in unexpected ways but, this was entirely different than anything he expected. He felt faster, and stronger too; for example, he tried shooting a three-pointer on the basketball court. Ben has awful hand-eye coordination and it was just a shot in the dark until he made said shot with a swish to match.
He had no idea how, but his average physique quickly became firm, forming a six-pack overnight. He even did fifty one-handed push-ups during gym without even breaking a sweat, just to see if he could. He threw over his shoulders an emerald jacket with a white stripe down the right pectoral, just so he could better hide the two devices on either of his wrists. Plus it was always cold in New York anyways. Though he tried to do his best to go about living his normal, teenage life without thinking about Power Rangers or weird crystals that turn into even weirder watch-things.
Speaking of gym, it was one of the only classes his two childhood bullies had with him, making it their torment Tennyson time just because they still found it funny. Although, they weren't in elementary school so, the 'bullying' had become a lot more real than stealing lunch money. Ben tried to avoid them, but they intentionally attempted to knock him over by bumping into his shoulder, only to recoil himself instead. Ben had hardly noticed until Cash shouted out to him, "Watch where you're going loser!"
He raised his brow, not even realizing who he was talking to, "I didn't even touch you, at least I didn't feel it…" he chuckled sarcastically which had been a problem since he was ten-years-old. Not knowing when to keep his mouth shut.
Cash stomped over followed by his equally ignorant and aggressive named J.T, "What the hell did you just say to me, Tennyson?" he cracked his knuckles but, when he put his hand on Ben's shoulder to turn him around, the instinct he felt earlier took over. He grabbed Cash by the wrist and pulled forwards, effortlessly tossing him onto his back in front of him.
Being high-schoolers, they were all recording and shouting now around the two with 'Oooh!' and 'World-Star' being shouted nonstop through the crowd. J.T came in for a swing which somehow, Ben saw coming in slow motion, his eyes adjusting to his brain it seemed. Ducking back his head two-inches made a swing and a miss for the supposed baseball star, J.T.
Cash was sure he'd gotten the drop on the boy this time, coming up from behind with his fist reeled back; it wasn't until now that Gwen had pushed her way through the crowd, "Oh for the love of-" assuming he was about to get another beating that she would need to treat.
Ben reacted on a dime like nothing they'd ever seen, he turned and caught Cash's fist midair, squeezing hard enough for the bully to cry-out just once before he finished it by using a casual-effort punch, to knock him ten-feet back sliding across the floor. People in the crowd even making way for him as they continued to shout, 'I gotta get out of here.'
Gwen gawked at what she'd seen as she watched him dart off before the school security could arrive on scene and take them all in for starting fights, though Cash and J.T started the fight so they'd rather not have administration watch the security footage.
…
Ben sat calmly as he stared down at an opened textbook out on his desk, one identical to the twenty or so desks and books around him with teens his age all sitting in rows around him, one of the students read a passage out loud as the others were supposed to follow along, though, a string of students were obviously not paying that much attention; some hiding their phones to check texts or play games, others trying to whisper so that the teacher couldn't hear them from across the room. However, Ben simply stared down at the writing in the book without reading a word, tapping his pencil impatiently, waiting in deep thought as he still processed everything that happened the day prior.
He had nonchalantly walked Gwendolyn to most of her classes, even though she knew her way around at this point, it was still habit for him. Lunch was soon and he got brief moments alone in empty stairwells and frankly he lived for those few minutes, to just exhale and think.
Ben continued tapping his pencil in deep thought until the ground shook beneath his feet causing him to accidently drop his pencil, letting it clatter on the ground as the book slowly vibrated against the table, the rest of the room going silent, everyone looking around noticing the next quake shaking the walls. Ben tightened his fist and looked towards the door, there were no windows so the only way out was through the single entrance but, he still tried to stay calm until they all heard a clear explosion from another building on the campus. Now it couldn't be a natural disaster… it had to be an attack of some sort, either way he needed to find Gwen and get the hell out of dodge.
Some of them shouted at first as the building quaked and drywall dust fell from the ceilings, the power went out leaving only the emergency lights to leave the room dim; the teacher tried to remain calm as she shouted at the students talking amongst themselves in a chattering panic, "Calm down! Everyone exit the room in an orderly fashion!" she tried instructing however, they all stampeded for the door first in a moment Ben was very lucky to have his extra strength as he shoved anyone aside that was in his way, just enough to get through the crowd and into the hallway filled with smoke, "Out of the building! Out of the building!" she shouted again as they were juxtaposed to the exit that seemed clear while the other end of the hall was shrouded in smoke.
Ben took off, needing to find his cousin in the chaos before he did anything else, sprinting much faster than he remembered he could, he bolted through the double doors before nearly tearing his sneakers, skating to a halt. The warrior clad in white armor wielding a crimson katana strapped to his back stood in his way, "What?!" he asked legitimately.
Dread Knight's voice was deep and authoritative when he spoke, only saying one sentence, "You have the most power on this planet, hand it over and I'll spare the lives of these people," he waited for an answer but, wasn't happy with the one he got.
"I have no idea what you're talking about!" Ben didn't take his time chatting, he sprinted to the left towards Gwen's classroom but, who knows if she's already been evacuated. He swung the door open to the building and found Dread Knight leaning against the wall ten feet from the entrance. "H-How did you?"
They were interrupted when Gwendolyn shouted out for him from outside the building, slamming the door shut on the attacker, Ben turned around and sprinted towards her faster than an Olympic athlete. "What the hell is going on?!" they shouted at each other in unison.
"Well if neither of us know, than we'll have to figure this out," the doors he'd slammed were torn off their iron hinges with a single front-kick, "You got the special watches, right? Use them! They have to do something!"
Ben took a deep breath, closing his eyes and focusing on the visions he was seeing earlier, the voices he heard; Gwen backed away against the wall, she could have run but, she also couldn't let Ben stay here by himself. "Ben!"
His eyes snapped open with a burning white flame in his pupils, "It's Morphin' Time! Zeo Ranger VI! Silver!" he held his left hand up and connected the watch on his right hand to it with a horizontal stance. For Ben he could feel the power coursing through him as a suit formed around his body layering him in protection on a cosmic scale. Connecting him to something bigger than himself, than the planet, than even the whole Universe; a more massive dimension, no- a massive Grid spanning the entire Multiverse composed of pure living energy.
For the Dread Knight and his cousin Gwen, it was an instantaneous flash of white light that engulfed him, leaving him in a silver armored suit with thin-light-weight metallic plates obviously made of a material beyond human understanding considering its heavenly glow. His head was engulfed in white flames until it died down naturally revealing an armored helmet with the design of six-pointed star as its visor. The rest of the suit had golden circuitry and trim running through it, two ion pistols holstered on either of his hips clipped to his belt which led to a belt-buckle with a silver hour-glass emblazoned on it.
"B-Ben?" Gwen muttered, watching as Ben immediately knew what to do, glancing down at his white-gloved fists for only a moment before clutching them tightly, before gesturing her to run by swinging his arm in the direction of the evacuation.
She glanced back through the courtyard before glancing towards the now slightly taller, armored version of her cousin, practically glowing with power, "Just go!" she listened to her instincts and made a break for it.
"I'm guessing you wanted whatever turned me into this?" Ben gestured to his suit, down to the pristine white combat boots, "But, you don't look like the type of person who would use it responsibly," Dread Knight drew and slashed at the air with his katana sending crimson-lightning at his opponent.
The Silver Zeo Ranger had no problem leaping up fifteen-feet straight through the air avoiding the blast which caused an explosion against three vending-machines lines up against the wall behind him. Whilst in the air, he felt his speed again as everything slowed down during his decent, drawing the blaster from his left holster and letting loose four concurrent shots of ionic energy.
Dread Knight wasn't impressed, slashing through the counter-blasts with his katana at hypersonic speeds; deflecting each of them through the air, when they struck anything they exploded like miniature grenades. Silver Ranger landed and looked up, using his visor to scan the villain across from him, he was starting to understand how this 'Ranger' thing worked. "If that's the best you can do, this will be easier than I thought!"
…
Gwendolyn made it to the gate but, something stopped her… not anything physical but, a voice in the back of her head that told her she couldn't let him do this alone. Frozen in place, she turned around three-sixty, facing the on-going battle, "I have to help somehow…" She acted totally on instinct, grabbing the nearest rock, and jogging forward a few dozen feet, launching the rock like a baseball, and waving her hands around. The rock missed and landed behind the mercenary, still gathering his attention just, not taking his eyes off his prey yet.
"Hey!" Gwendolyn scooped a chunk of asphalt off the ground and chucked it fifteen feet away again, this time hitting the deadly assassin in the back of his whitened skull. Slowly he turned with an aggravated grunt, narrowing his eyes at the red headed girl practically trying to get killed, "Over here!" that's when he realized it obviously had to be a distraction.
Dread turned just in time to be slashed across the chest, using the distraction to summon a silver long-blade with a unique hilt sporting a silver-star matching his visor shape. He slashed again, only this time he was intercepted by a katana cackling with crimson electricity. Bolts of red and white Grid lightning struck the ground at their feet, frying the grass around them and cracking apart nearby concrete sidewalks with the sheer force of their strike.
Slicing across each other's powerful blades sent bright orange sparks out over the field as they were atop a patch of grass in the middle of his high-school campus. They were even until Ben audibly grunted and slashed across the katana with even more force, pushing Dread Knight back on his heels.
"It's over, give up now, leave Earth, and never come back," Ben demanded behind the intimidating visor and hand itching to draw his blaster.
Dread Knight chuckled, "I don't think so!" he dashed into battle, crossing blades with the Silver Ranger again and again but, only one of the two was a true sword-master. Defending against a downward slice, Dread front kicked Ben in the chest sending him flying into the dirt and grass on his back.
He groaned as Gwendolyn cringed, Ben backed away, crawling backwards as he slashes away at his feet, cleaving through blades of grass with expertise he could never match. Not yet at least, Ben rolled backwards and readied his sword but, Dread Knight had enough of these games.
As the Silver Ranger swung upwards, he was met with a devastating downward slash that shattered his blade to pieces like glass, receiving an uppercut that stunned and sent him back once again landing on his aching back. "Don't take it personally, all Ranger's must die."
He readied his katana as the energy surged through out it, the shards of the Zeo-Crystal held within the blade's hilt split into threes. Without warning, one of the shards distracted Dread by jettisoning itself into Gwen's palm, looking over the shard as it too transmutated into two wrist watches that seemed average enough at first. As soon as that happened, she heard voices in her head calling out to her, "You, Gwendolyn Tennyson, are graceful and strong with a heart of compassion," she reached out slowly as the neon sparks of magenta reached out to tickle her fingers as she tapped the watch. She was instantly endowed with the strength of a hundred-men, her reflexes and fighting capacity would slowly begin to grow over time but, most importantly she was gifted with the knowledge of how to use her abilities by the Morphin Grid. "The Pterodactyl Zord is yours to control, you are now the Pink Ranger!"
"Any last words, Ranger?!" holding the katana with both hands, he planned to impale Ben right through the abdomen as he laid too injured to stand at the moment.
Gwendolyn closed her eyes and instantly felt the rush, her wrist bands transformed into the same morphers her cousin was using, "Zeo Ranger VII; Pink!" her entire body was engulfed in the same flash of light Ben was moments ago, her suit while almost entirely pink sported a white collar trimmed with golden energy, her visor was outlined with bright light. Her armor came with a mid-thigh, lightweight alloyed armor harder than titanium as well as the rest of her suit.
"Now there's two of you?! What pests…" Dread Knight slashed right and left sending sparks across his silver-suit as he fell backwards once again.
Gwen stared at her hands as she felt her martial-arts skills quadrupling, her strength and speed increasing, even her understanding of the suit itself, "Woah."
Dread Knight chuckled between the two of them, "Well, you two certainly aren't the Rangers I came here to exterminate but, when in Rome, as they say," he slashed a crimson wave of destructive energy at Gwendolyn who masterfully dodged with a flip no ordinary skills could muster without breaching into super-human levels. Back springing upon her landing, she dodged yet another blast leaving the Knight open for a flank as Silver Ranger grabbed hold of his katana wielding arm with all his strength to keep him from swinging at her.
"Get," he swung his arm to the left with all his strength, "Off!" Ben was sent backwards into the vending machines, shattering the glass, and sending snacks everywhere.
This distraction gave Gwen time to figure out how to summon her blaster, "Now I got it!" Dread turned receiving a rapid fire of pink plasma bolts to the chest, too quickly for his arm to recoil and deflect the blasts. He staggered backwards with every shot but, he growled with a rageful shout, using his full speed to cut through every single one of her blasts. Redirecting them all back at her, sparks flew across her chest and the force from the blows sent her into the gate-exit to the schoolyard. The force of her impact sent her straight through the iron-gates, tumbling into the street.
'I can't believe this is happening' Gwen recovered and found Ben aiming his dual blasters at the assassin, firing as rapidly as they would allow him too at point blank range. Dread casually swung his blade, reflecting every blast into the grass which caught fire quickly.
Gwen leapt over the flames, landing in a roll beside Ben, they both considered what they would do next as their opponent didn't seem to have a scratch on him thus far.
Ben and Gwen were side by side, using powers they hardly understood yet, simultaneously felt they'd mastered in seconds. Dread Knight didn't seem very impressed, snorting steam from what they assumed was the most on his skull-like mask.
"Master was certainly specifc, I will collect the Zeo Crystals from your corpses," he swung his katana up to eye level, looking into its reflection and into his own eyes.
Ben's gloved fists tightened at his side, "So, that's what they're called…" he muttered to himself "Zeo Crystals."
Dread Knight lowered his blade and the crimson energy around his aura calmed, sheathing the blade behind his back. "That's right, powerful relics from another planet that need to be… returned as soon as possible. If you hand them over now, I can leave this planet and never return…" Dread was one of the most caniving bastard mercenaries in the Galaxy, happy to strike a deal before stabbing you in the back.
Gwen scoffed within her helmet, "Even if we believed your story about them needing to return home," Pink Ranger stepped forward almost in front of Ben, "something tells me these powerful crystals given to your master would definitely be the wrong hands to give them up to," she put her hands on her hips as though it was obvious she had little to no idea what she was talking about, either way he agreed. "I doubt he'd be taking them home."
Silver Ranger stood, pulling his blaster from the holster on his belt, "She's right, you're full of it, if we give you these crystals… who knows what horrible things you'd do with them," he took a step forward by her side, backing her up.
He growled, snarling at them with a rage, "Fine! You can both die together!" Dread Knight drew his blade and began charging the blood-red electricity into the blade through the hilt.
"We'll hit him together," Ben announced resummoning his silver long-sword from thin air with neon circuitry. "Follow my lead."
Pink Ranger summoned an identical blade with a magenta aesthetic, swinging it to her right, "I got your back," with all of the data and information the Grid gave them, it was effortless to work together in a coordinated attack. Both of them dashed in opposing directions across the battlefield in blurs of pink and silver, splitting Dread Knight's attention, they reconvened on him by slicing through him from the left and right respectively. Their blades lighting up with powerful neon Grid energy leaving a trail behind their ferocious slashes.
Dread Knight tried his best to defend against them both but, as they stood and turned to face away from him, his katana shattered, and he fell to his knees with a powerful explosion erupting atop him, "This isn't possible!" he shouted with his last breath.
"That was so awesome, I can't believe we're Power Rangers!" Gwen danced as she looked over her pink-suited legs and arms, "This stuff is way more durable than it feels…"
"One question left," Ben asked as he nodded his head up at the schools CCTV security camera system which saw the entire scene, "Do we wanna be heroes? Or is this a one time thing?"
Gwen looked at him through her scanners, than back down to her hands; the rush, the adrenaline but, it wasn't just that… she protected her cousin today and who knows how many other people by choosing to fight. She couldn't do that if she became a celebrity, not the right way.
Gwen answered by quick-drawing her ion pistols, firing and destroying three cameras facing the scene with expert marksmanship. "How do we erase the footage?" She asked a more obvious question.
"You know Cooper from 4th Period?" Ben asked aloud as they walked away together, suited up, from the abandoned school courtyard battle ground. "He's a wicked genius, changes my grade every now and then, I'm sure he could help with taking care of that."
Pink stopped and looked at his helmeted face, "And you're sure you can trust Cooper with the truth about… all of this?!" She shouted in a whisper in reference to her armor and the dying out fire behind them.
"He's been my best friend since I was ten years old, there's no way he'd say anything," they exited the school yard where they faced a crowd of people, including but not limited to firefighters and their trucks, police officers, students further away taking video on their phones, and of course news outlets covering the story.
One reporter came in close, putting the microphone up to Ben's silver helmeted head, even as he tried to back away, "that creature sent four security guards to the hospital and injured half a dozen students, can you tell us what happened in there?!" The blonde reporter was ambitious and a little too eager.
Ben stuttered, never wanting to be in the spot-light in the first place, "I… uh- the threat has been, uh, neutralized." One thing Gwen noticed for certain was that he had was no public speaking skills whatsoever.
Pink took the microphone and announced, "There was an alien bounty hunter guy searching for something powerful enough to hurt our planet, so we stopped him. End of story, thank you, goodbye!" Gwen grabbed Ben's wrist as Pink and Silver streaks sped away at the speed of sound around the corner leaving the crowd to their own devices. Eventually dispersing.
"This has been Jennifer Nocturne with Channel 52 news!"
…
Between the Moon and Earth, the breach between dimensions was still to unstable to send anything more powerful than a simple warrior, however; he could cast some magic through this gateway spite it being closed. "So, these Power Rangers still exist in this dimension, good, I enjoy when my army crushes a species' most powerful protectors. Muahahaha."
