Setting Prompt: Hospital
Kaito had thought he was drowning, that he would die. The fish were surrounding him, staring at him with blank, empty, soulless eyes, staring straight at him, and Kaito just wanted to go, but he couldn't get out, his lungs were losing air, it was too much-
And then he woke up at the hospital.
Kaito gasped for breaths, looking around. It's fine, he told himself. You aren't in there anymore.
He really was a fool, trying to conquer his fear by locking himself into a large fishtank and trying to escape. Aoko had teased him about his ichthyophobia one too many times at school, so he had to try something. But it failed, and Kaito almost died as a result.
Flexing his fingers, Kaito stared down solemnly. He had been in indescribable pain, all because he wanted to get over his fear, and now…
Kaito had seen Aoko earlier that day, and he didn't want to see her again, at least for a while. He knew it wasn't truly her fault, but Kaito blamed everyone. Himself, Aoko, even his father for teaching him magic. He blamed the fish, too. Really though, blaming himself truly was the best option.
Or maybe he didn't have to blame anyone, in the end, for his short swim in the River Styx. Maybe he deserved it.
