There was a frantic banging on the door. I jumped to my feet as a panting boy burst into the room. "There's a huge group of sand worms surrounding Winsorhowl. They're getting closer to the city with every second and we need as many helping hands as we can get to drive them back!" "Do you know where Roger is?" Ash asked with a worried expression on his face. The boy looked blank. "Whose Roger?" "Roger Mendenhall?" Elise snapped impatiently. "No, I have no idea." "Come on!" Ash followed the boy out and A.C and Elise raced after him. I was unsure of what to do so I awkwardly ran after them.
We ran out of the city and into the desert. It was extremely hot and soon I found myself sweating. Then I saw a huge brown creature. It had gleaming eyes and red fangs. I gasped. Blood red fangs. I looked around properly and saw people standing facing the giant sand worm. Occasionally one of them would lift a hand and aim a spell at it. I saw flames, streams of water, zaps of lightning and Gravitas based spells hurled at the sand worm but they seemed to have very little effect on it. It charged at the people. Some of them screamed as it gnashed its fangs and snapped at them. A few of them fell to the ground; blood gushing from their wounds. Then A.C yelled in fury and ran at the sand worm. His sword flashed as he swiped at it. The sand worm snarled as his blade bit into it. It swung its head towards A.C but before its deadly fangs could close on him, Elise ran forward. I saw her mouth moving and then a dark magic flowed around the sand worm. It snarled as it came into contact with the darkness and it started disappearing. Finally there was nothing left of it and Elise and A.C turned away.
There was a sudden outburst of shouting and screaming to our right and both of them set off in the direction of the sounds. Then I felt a tug on my hand. I looked up to see Ash's urgent face. "Come on, those people need our help." I started sprinting towards the little group with Ash right on my heels. As I got closer I saw that the people were battling fiercely with a big sand worm in their midst. It lunged at one of them but then hissed as another's spell hit it. "Seems like they are managing just fine," I said out of breath. I couldn't see A.C or Elise and I was just about to call out their names when the ground beneath my feet shook violently. I stumbled and then stared in horror as a giant head erupted from the sand. I waved frantically at the people who were still intent on fighting the other sand worm. "Look out!" I shouted. "Guys! Giant sand worm, right behind you!" Ash joined in. A few of them glanced at us and then at the huge creature advancing on them. They immediately started attacking it with spells but the sand worm ignored them as if they were just pesky flies. It opened its huge mouth and snapped at them. Several of them collapsed writhing in pain. More and more shouted incantations as they tried to destroy the sand worm but it just shoved them aside and kept charging. In all of the commotion they had all forgotten about the other sand worm, the one they had been fighting in the beginning. Now it flung itself at them and started chopping from behind with its jaws. I saw Ash send a fire spell at the giant sand worm but then be cut down by the other one. A.C hacked at one of them before turning and chopping at the other. His sword seemed to be constantly moving and I couldn't tell one jab from another. Then one of them managed to fasten its fangs in his arm and he yelled in pain. He ripped his arm free and locked eyes with me. He glared at me. "Give us some aid girl. Don't just stand there, help us with that fire magic you were talking about." I swallowed before fixing my eyes on the biggest sand worm. I thought about fire leaping towards it but instead of blue light appearing round my hands a phrase came to me. I blinked before shouting, "Incendiatas Ultimus: Blue Blaze!" Blue fire exploded from my palms and the sand worm screeched as my spell hit it. I turned and shouted again, throwing bursts of flames at the other sand worm. The sand worms' skin glowed red and soon both of them retreated. My hands dropped to my sides and the people around me cheered. I turned away and set off towards another sand worm that I could see in the distance. Then I saw Roger. He was aiming streams of water at one of the creatures. It was trying its best to charge at him but each time it got too close the water would propel it backwards. I stood beside Roger in case he needed any help but he seemed fine.
Then I heard a cry of pain. I spun around and saw the girl that I had seen Roger leave with earlier. She was lying on the ground with blood pouring out of a gaping wound in her side. I kneeled down beside her and pressed my hand on the wound. The girl screamed in pain and Roger glanced over his shoulder. His face turned pail when he saw the girl. The water stopped flowing from his hands and he crouched down beside the girl. "Cera are, are you ok? Please tell me you're ok, oh please!" I had taken off my jacket and now I wrapped it around Cera's wound but the blood quickly soaked it. "We need to get her to a heeler quickly," I told Roger. Tears were streaming down his face but he wiped them away and scooped the girl into his arms. He stood up and ran off back in the direction of Winsorhowl.
I was about to go look for another enemy to defeat when I heard a sound behind me. I got to my feet and saw the sand worm that Roger had been fighting. It had snuck up behind me and now it was standing less than a metre away. "Incendiatas Ultimus: Blue Blaze," I said but only a small spark showed on my palm. I was still worried about Cera and Roger and I couldn't focus on casting my spell. Then Ash ran in front of me and yelled, "Gravitas Magnus: Gravity Well!" a well of dark magic surrounded the sand worm and its body seemed to collapse into it. Without any pause two more worms came out of the sand to our right and another one appeared a few metres in front of us. People howled in pain as they were struck down by the sand worms and Ash and I flicked our eyes back and forth between them; wondering who to help.
Before we could make a decision, a man ran up to us. He was covered in blood and his breath sounded ragged as he screamed, "Run, run back to Winsorhowl! Everyone is retreating, there are too many sand worms and people are dying left and right! We can't defeat them!" Ash grabbed my hand and began dragging me towards the city. I stared back at the horde of sand worms. Their glowing eyes followed us as we headed for the houses and buildings that would hopefully keep us safe.
