Percy's Lucky Accident
Writer's Month 2022
Percy groaned and collapsed back onto the ground. His best friend stood next to him, a judgmental look on her face. It matched the pained look on Percy's face. It wasn't even that much physical pain as it was embarrassment. He was a life guard. He'd been doing this for a long, long time now.
"The fire department," Percy groaned and covered his face. "The fire department."
"Yes?"
Percy froze and carefully peeked out between his fingers. Oh no. It was the handsome fire fighter who had brought him back ashore. MASON was what his uniform said. Damn, he was handsome. With the sharp cheekbones, the light dusting of stubble making him look kind of rough, dark eyes and even darker hair. Percy swallowed, trying to swallow his tongue.
"Don't mind him," Annabeth spoke up. "He's just embarrassed that you guys had to come."
"Hey no," Mason took his helmet off and ruffled his own hair. "That's nothing to be embarrassed about. You did great, you got the kid to safety but you got hurt in the process. It's okay."
"Yeah," Percy turned his head to look at his red, swollen angle. "...Yeah."
"It's going to be okay," the fire fighter looked more serious now. "This isn't so bad. I mean, it's most definitely broken, but I'm sure it'll heal well again. We're going to bring you to the hospital to get it checked out and properly taken care of and I promise you'll be in the best hands."
Annabeth looked skeptical at that. "You can promise that?"
"Yes," Mason's entire face brightened up. "My husband works in the ER and he's the best."
And Percy deflated some. So handsome fire-fighter was married. Which figured, but still. Percy had kind of hoped he would be able to maybe get a date or something. Accepting his fate, he allowed for himself to be rolled into the ambulance and driven to the hospital.
The first to greet him was a gorgeous blonde. "What do we got?"
"Most likely broken ankle, but he also went underwater for a long time," answered Mason.
The fire-fighter had actually accompanied him to the hospital. Though now Percy's curious eyes wandered over to his gorgeous doctor. His name-tag said DR. SOLACE. Long, blonde hair was tied in a bun in his neck, full lips aimed a smile at Percy now.
"Hey there, I'm Doctor Solace, I'll take care of you."
"I already told him that, babe," offered the fire-fighter, leaning in. "...Can I have a kiss, Will?"
Doctor Solace – Will – rolled his eyes but met the other half-way. "There, now shoo back to work, Jake. I'll see you at home tonight, mh?"
He rested a hand on Jake's chest for a moment, just above the name-tag. So Mason was the last name then? Jake Mason and Will Solace. And of course they were married to each other. Just Percy's luck, the pretty ones were always already taken.

It wasn't rare for Jake to drop by and visit patients he brought in. He was a bleeding heart type, he always wanted to see things through and make sure they were alright. But he seemed to linger by Percy Jackson much more than usual. The thing was, Will understood why. Percy was particularly charming and sweet. A life-guard – and Jake wasn't the only one to visit him. No, he taught swimming classes too and entire groups of kids flocked by, covering him with get well soon cards and drawing cute symbols on his cast. It had been a complicated break so it had needed multiple surgeries and they decided to keep him around a couple of days. During those days, Will too succumbed to Percy's sunny personality and charm.
"How are you doing today?" asked Will when he checked in on Percy.
"Yeah, I'm totally bored out of my mind," declared Percy, pouting up at the ceiling. "Save me."
"I'm afraid I can't do that," Will smiled amused. "Your ankle was badly broken and you had a close call during surgery. We gotta keep an eye on you. And that ankle will take longer to heal."
Percy pouted at Will now. "I'm a life-guard, I need to swim. I can't swim with a cast."
That was a way too cute expression and Will wondered with just how much he got away thanks to that pout. Because who could deny him? Will sure couldn't, he already knew that.
"You'll be released tomorrow, if you behave well," Will smiled warmly.
The pouting continued though. Without thinking on it did Will reach out to ruffle Percy's hair, which got him a cute blush from Percy. Oh, it was very obvious that Percy had a crush on him.

"You're going to be missed here, you know," offered Will with a smile as he released Percy the next day. "I'm pretty sure the nurses station is ready to adopt you as their mascot."
"I hope I'll be missed by you too," Percy returned the smile, nearly flirty.
"Mister Jackson, are you flirting with me?" asked Will playfully, just to make Percy blush. "You do know I'm a married man, right? My husband is the one you got that teddy from."
Because of course had Jake bought Percy a silly teddy from the gift shop when visiting. Interestingly enough, Percy's blush darkened even more and he hid behind the bear. Cute.
"I, uh, know," Percy averted his gaze. "Sorry. Didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
"Aw, being flirted with by a pretty boy doesn't make me uncomfortable," Will winked.
Percy's head snapped up and he stared at the doctor. "But you know you have a husband, right?"
"Oh, I know. My husband's the guy who keeps visiting you with heart-eyes," Will snorted. "I'm no longer your doctor, once you walk out this hospital. So... perhaps... we could meet in private some time. My husband makes a mean barbecue, if you like-"
"I'd love that," blurted Percy out before Will could finish. "Uh. Yeah. I'd like that."

Jake rescued many people in his line of work and he always worried. There was something about Percy Jackson that was different. Snarky, charming and a special kind of sunshine personality that Jake had fallen for before, with his husband. He'd visited Percy trice at the hospital. Two times more than usual. He just kept being drawn in by the pretty life-guard and Will was encouraging of it too. So Jake was incredibly pleased when Will came home one afternoon and told him he'd invited Percy over to a barbecue this Saturday. The two of them went all out as they went shopping for groceries and prepared salads and the meat. This was one of the things Jake loved about Will, because the two of them just understood each other. They even fell for the same cute life-guard.
"I, uh, made a tiramisu," Percy looked cute out of his hospital gown.
"Thank you, I'll take that," Will quickly accepted the box so Percy could properly make his way in with his crutches. "Come along right through to the backyard, okay?"
Percy nodded, though his eyes kept wandering, taking in their house. He offered a warm smile when Jake helped him by pulling back the chair and taking the crutches for Percy to put aside.
"So—o, is this like... a friendly hang-out, or is this a... date?"
"Blunt," Will blinked. "I like it. It's... either, depending on what you want it to be."
Relaxing some, Percy leaned back in his chair. Huh. Somehow, he hadn't seen that coming.
"Date. It's a date then," declared Percy with a broad grin.
Jake smiled pleased at that. He'd hoped for that, had kind of expected it, but he hadn't wanted to get his hopes up too high. Will leaned in to kiss his husband's cheek, knowing how much Jake's crush had been growing lately. While Will went to put the tiramisu into the fridge, Jake pulled another chair up for Percy to lay his foot up and keep it elevated.

Jake had just gotten changed after a shower at the end of his shift when one of his colleagues told him that his husband and someone else were waiting for him outside. He barely managed to leave the station before he was just jumped straight ahead. On instinct did he grab the one who had jumped him. Percy, wrapping his legs around Jake's waist and clinging onto him.
"Look! No crutches!" Percy sounded so excited. "The doctor gave me an all-clear."
"The doctor also told you not to overdo it. You need physical therapy and be careful with it," Will glared, arms crossed over his chest. "And I promised her that I'll make sure you stick with it."
Percy wrapped his arms around Jake's neck and pouted at Will from over Jake's shoulder. "I'm careful, I'm careful. Look at me keeping my weight off my ankle."
Both Jake and Will chuckled at that, but honestly Jake didn't mind. He liked the way Percy felt clinging onto him like that. So after adjusting their lover in his arms, Jake walked over to Will to get a kiss from his husband and then follow Will back to his car.
"Swimming is great for physical therapy," Percy grinned, so eager to get back into the water.
"Don't overdo it," requested Will as they all sat back in. "I mean it, Percy."
"I promise, doc," Percy rolled his eyes but leaned in to kiss Will. "I promise."
"I'm gonna take you both out for dinner to celebrate?" suggested Jake.
"Oh," Percy blinked a couple times, pouting just a little bit. "I thought we'd just hang out at yours and I may be treated to another Jake barbecue..."
"Or we could do that," Jake chuckled. "Sure, let's go get home then, mh?"
Percy had been spending more and more time at their place anyway. Sleeping over more nights than not. The pleased look on Percy's face at that told Jake just how at home Percy felt with them. And wasn't that a nice thought? That their lover felt at home with them.
"I so happened to have bought that fresh herb-crusted salmon that you like so much," Will smirked.
The way Percy licked his lips resembled a cat. It was very adorable and made Jake want to pet Percy. Since Jake was driving, he gave Will a look through the rear-view window and his husband easily understood, as always. With an amused look on his face did Will reach out to run his fingers through Percy's hair. The life-guard always melted at that, very much like a kitten.
Who would have thought that one water rescue would gain Jake and his husband a cute boyfriend?
~*~ The End ~*~
Author's note: I read swim and hospital and I was already "well that's gonna contain Percy and Will" and then a sudden Jake joined it because I haven't done this OT3 in a while! :3
