Five Months later…
Colby's DC apartment…
Colby sighed in relief when he came home on a regular time and not a late one, due to a really big case involving drug traffickers and kidnapping and was just happy to get some good night's rest.
He was actually really enjoying his new team, even though he still misses his old team, even as they talk as much as they possibly can.
Except for David, who hasn't even made the effort to call him, though Colby supposed it was probably for the best, since he would only give short responses in a very short conversation and just hang up on him.
Colby did try calling him a couple times, just leaving a message but never got an answer back, so he decided to not give it a try for a while and that was two months ago.
'It's like those two years meant nothing to him, even with what had happened.' Colby thought to himself before his phone rang and smiled when he saw the ID number.
"Hey, Whiz Kid, how's it going?" He asked and smiled more when he heard some more good news about how well the Eppes family were doing.
"How's Robin?" He said and was thrilled when he heard it was getting better for his former boss and girlfriend, with a suspicion that she might be pregnant from what his friend was telling him but didn't comment until Charlie confirmed his suspicion.
"Don and Robin are expecting, Colby." Charlie said, as Colby could just hear the smile in the professor's voice and got another good piece of news.
"They are also engaged, and it happened before they found out about the baby." Charlie said
"Any idea when the wedding will be?" Colby asked
"Not sure but they are hoping maybe around June or July, as that would be the best time for them before the baby comes." Charlie said
"What about you and Amita?" Colby asked
"We are moving in together, as she is coming to live at the Craftsman, with Dad staying as it is also his house." Charlie said
"Are Megan and Larry still together if I may ask, because I wasn't sure what was going on with them when I left." Colby asked as he hoped wasn't being too intrusive.
"They are and are doing better now, thankfully." Charlie said in a tone that he knew what Colby was talking about.
"Is your Dad still dating Millie?" Colby asked, as he was also confused about the whole thing
"Yes, they are." Charlie said in a tone that indicated he didn't want to talk about it and now Colby had to ask a tough question
"Is David doing any better?" Colby asked as he had heard that David was doing well in his position but it seemed he still couldn't let go of what happened with the Janus List.
"Right now he's okay, given that therapy seems to be helping him quite a bit and things between him and Claudia are apparently getting better." Charlie said, as he knew Colby wanted to know what was going on with his former friend
"Was the strain between them only because of me or was it also work related?' Colby asked because David once accused him after the incident of causing problems between him and Claudia
"Things were starting to go south before the whole thing, Colby, you know that." Charlie said sympathetically, as he knew about some of the things that happened before and after the incident
"I know but it sometimes feels like I made things worse." Colby said sadly as he remembered hearing David complaining about some of his relationship issues while Colby didn't have any relationship at all.
"I'm sorry about that, Colby." Charlie said, as the mathematician was also mad at David for causing some issues with the team that he knew Colby was aware of but didn't want to talk about.
"Enough about us, what about you?" Charlie asked, as he was curious what Colby has been up to since he left.
"Well, I just wrapped a case, so I can finally do some fishing for the first time in months." Colby said with a smile
"That's great Colby, it's great to have hobbies." Charlie said, glad to hear his friend in good spirits.
"Yeah, and I finally get to see my sister this weekend," Colby said smiling, as he was glad at least one member of his family was willing to see him, as his mother was never really a good parent, especially when his father died, and now she even refuses to talk to him.
"That's great, too." Charlie said, knowing what it's like to not be able to talk to your sibling for long periods of time.
"Anything else new?" Colby asked, as he and Charlie talked for another half hour, discussing the old days and possible wedding plans, with Colby hoping that he would meet someone soon, or better yet, finally make peace with David.
If only that was easy to do.
