One week later…
The Craftsman…
Midmorning..
Alan was reading a book, happily thinking about his son and soon-to-be daughter-in-law being at the ultrasound, thrilled beyond belief that he was finally getting a grandchild when he heard a familiar voice coming into the house.
"Hello? Anybody home?" David asked
"In here, David." Alan said, curious as to why the agent was here at this time of day, though he did hear from Don that he was making David take some time off due to an incident during an arrest a couple days ago, though David wasn't at fault and that he would be back on duty the next week, though Alan suspected that the agent really needed some time off.
"Hey, Alan, how's it going?" David asked the Eppes patriarch as he took a seat next to the older man
"Pretty good, if you are looking for Don, he and Robin are at the doctor's so it might be a while before they get back." Alan said
"I know, actually I came here to see you." David said, as he needed to talk to the man.
"Oh? What about?" Alan asked, curious as to where this was going with the agent.
"The situation with Colby." David said, not wanting to beat around the bush.
"Oh." Alan said in surprise, as he was sad to hear that Colby left and didn't bother saying goodbye to David, though that wasn't too much of a surprise.
"I don't know what to do about it, as it has been almost a year since the incident, we barely talked for a couple months before he left, he tried calling a couple times, which I didn't answer back, because I was still angry, and now I don't know what to feel or how to even talk to him." David admitted
"Imagine how he feels." Alan said as gently as he could but at least he could see that David was at least slowly getting over the whole but he needed to talk to Colby.
"I know." David said with a pained look, "It's something I've finally come to realize the last month, especially with Bradford talking to me about the whole issue, I'm just not sure how to deal with it all."
Alan took a few moments, wondering what is David going to say next before he decided he should say some things
"David, like I said in the aftermath, I know it is hard to deal with being lied to but you do realize that Colby had no choice in the matter, right?" Alan said gently
"I do know, it just… stung, I mean first I thought he was a traitor, then weeks later I found out he was actually spying on the Chinese, I think I just… found it to be too much, and that my best friend was lying to me either way." David said
"I understand that David but, as I recall, those next couple months? You didn't even attempt to reciprocate Colby's attempts at reconciliation, even with our help, which made him eventually decide to leave."
"I know, and that is probably the biggest mistake I have made in my entire life." David said sadly
"That you know, what are you going to do about it?" Alan said, as he knew that it was now up to David to make things right with Colby, who would probably be relieved that man was getting to his senses, though he hoped it wasn't too late.
"I think I am going to DC soon, this has to be done face to face." David said, "I just need to talk to Don about it and then I can head over."
"Wait a bit, and Don and Robin will be back so you can go over the plan." Alan said, glad that David seemed willing to try to fix things with his former partner.
He just hoped it would be enough.
