"Hey." Colby said in a wary voice
"Glad we could do this." David said
"So am I." Colby said, looking down at the menu.
"Did you order already?" David asked, looking to start a conversation
"No, I only got here a few minutes before you but I am ready if you are." Colby answered back
"Great." David said with a little enthusiasm he could muster
After ordering, the two agents were quiet for a few minutes, both unsure of what to say, as the past few months being apart made them unsure how to approach each other.
"So…" David began
"So…" Colby said at the same time
"How have you been?" David asked
"I've… been okay, I mean… It's not the same as L.A., as DC doesn't have surfing, which is also something I have been missing for the past few months."
"That's too bad." David said, still unsure of what to say
"Yeah, and the weather isn't that great, as it can sometimes be hot but also gets cloudy from time to time, and we had some heavy snow a month ago, which wasn't too bad. I have faced similar problems in Idaho." Colby said, trying to keep things light
"I'm sure you have." David said
Another minute of silence followed before David couldn't take it anymore and decided that he needed to get things off his chest.
"Colby, I'm sorry." David finally said
"For what?" Colby said, knowing what David meant but still wanted to hear it, especially after all those months of silence.
"For starters? For believing you were a traitor when you really weren't, though I know you needed us to believe that you were to get to the Chinese." David started
"That much is true." Colby said, "Though I wished that you didn't do so much, as I would have thought you would refuse to believe and would actually visit me, though that never happened." He added with a sad smile
"That's also what I'm sorry about, not visiting you and not trying to get you to say that you were lying and that it was just a big mistake." David said, though they both knew that would have never happened
"Yeah, though I just wished you tried visiting to see if you could try to understand what was going on." Colby said, as he really thought for a couple weeks that David would do that, but gave up when he never came
"I'm also sorry for mainly ignoring you after you came back, which made you leave in the first place." David said, which was something that Colby wanted to hear but never thought he never would have and wanted to know what prompted David to do so.
"Can I ask why you did that? Because I get that you would be upset with me not telling you the specifics, but I never thought you would be that upset with me when the truth came out." Colby said, as he was still feeling hurt over those months before he left L.A.
"After some thinking, I think it has a lot to do with pride, as I am an FBI agent and I should be able to read people but with you being revealed as a traitor, I was just crushed that I missed something amiss and then, when it was revealed that you were a triple agent, I honestly found it all too much, not that it excuses my behavior for the past few months." David said, hoping it was helpful in explaining his actions.
"Ok, that I can buy, and that's what I thought it was." Colby said, as what David said wasn't completely surprising but it was still nice to hear David admit it.
"Thanks, and I'm also sorry for that time of accusing you of faking any illness you might have had." David said, as he had a feeling that Colby was still dealing with the… torture that happened to him on the freighter."
Colby winced at that, as it still hurt that David even said that, not to mention his own situation right now and he had no idea what to even say to David but figured he should just tell him if they are going to start talking again.
"David, I accept your apologies, I just need to talk to you about something my doctor told me recently." Colby answered, as he figured it's better to forgive when David was showing remorse for all the things he had done and said.
"I'm listening, Colby, I wasn't before, but I am listening now." David said, as whatever Colby was going to tell him, he was going to be there for him no matter what.
