Chapter 2: Imposter

.

"I'm telling you Officer! An akuma ran by, climbed on my car and broke my windshield!" A middle-aged Parisian was yelling at Officer Raincomprix.

"Then I suppose the akuma also caused you to run into that light post." the officer pointed out. Indeed, the car was wrapped around the pole. Ladybug could see that there was a lot of damage to it. There was a large dent on the hood, and a focus collision point on the windshield, like a strong person stepped over the car.

"That happened because I was trying to avoid the akuma that ran across the street..." The man screamed again, very annoyed the officer didn't believe him.

"Excuse me, sir." Ladybug stepped forward, interrupting them. "But when did this happen?"

"Barely ten minutes ago." the man answered.

"That's strange the akuma we fought was about an hour ago." Chat Noir stated. "Unless we missed some of them."

"No, the cure would have gotten rid of everything connecting to the akuma." Ladybug debated.

"It was an akuma! It jumped off that building, ran across the street, and then damaged my car when I tried to AVOID IT!'' the man swore.

"A likely story." Officer Roger grumbled while scribbling down a ticket on his little notebook.

"What did the akuma look like?" Ladybug asked.

"It was a dark red with glowing lights all over its body, and it was wearing a cape." he explained.

"Aha!" cried Officer Roger, "The akuma tonight looked nothing like that! And it could multiply so there were several hundred of them!"

"But I swear..."

"What we got her is a case of reckless driving. I'm writing you up for this. Ladybug, Chat Noir, I'm sorry you were bothered with this." Roger turned to the heroes.

"That's okay, Officer Raincomprix. Good night." she then zipped off on her yoyo, Chat Noir following behind her. They could still hear the driver mouthing off to the officer.

They did a quick stop on top another rooftop. Chat Noir spoke first. "You think there's another akuma, milady?"

"No, I don't think so. That man could have just been making an excuse for his wreck or something, otherwise we would have seen something else by now." she thought logically.

"That makes sense. Well, I guess we can call it a night then." he said.

"Yeah, good night kitty." she turned to leave when she felt him take hold of her hand, and lightly pressed his lips to it.

"I hope you have purrfectly sweet dreams, Bugaboo." with that he took off.

She giggled lightly to herself while shaking her head. Her kitty really would never change, and honestly, she wouldn't want him to. She quickly made her way to her balcony on top of the Dupain-Cheng bakery, and detransformed before slipping through the trap door to her bedroom. Some of the kwamis were flying around her room, while others were resting on some small cushions she made for them. Even though she was done as Ladybug for the evening, Marinette's mind couldn't help but go back to the strange feeling she had.

"Hey Tikki, did you feel anything weird before, after the akuma I mean?" she turned to her friend, giving her a macaron.

"I thought I felt something, but I'm not really sure, sorry Marinette." she answered between bites.

"That's okay, it probably was nothing. Okay who wants a snack?" Marinette addressed the rest of the kwamis.

"I do! I do!" most of them started flying around her.

Marinette went over to the dresser where she kept the specific treats that each kwami wanted. Then she went over to the mini fridge to retrieve the more perishable items. It took some convincing to her parents for her to get that in her room. She had to tell them that part of it was arts and crafts, like candle making or wax melts, then how she just wanted some cold water up here from time to time. She gave each kwami what they wanted, then noticed that there were two unaccounted for. Looking around, she found them sleeping near the miracle box, which was odd. Usually, they would be up and about with everyone else.

"Sass, Fluff, wake up. Aren't you guys hungry?" she gave them both a little nudge to stir them awake.

Sass was the first and gave out a big yawn. "Oh, good evening, Misssss Guardian. I'm ssssoo pleassed you've returned."

Fluff wasn't so eager. "Five more minutes, thirty-seven seconds."

"Here guys, you probably need some food." Marinette tried again.

"Food?" that perked Fluff up.

"Yep, some marshmallows for you, and some jellybeans for Sass, these have some pretty nasty flavors, too."

"Marveloussss." Sass headed straight for his sugary treat.

"Fhanxx." Fluff was already munching on the marshmallows.

Once that was taken care of Marinette went to finish off her homework, and then head to bed.

The next morning, Marinette woke up past her alarm like usual. You would think with all the extra kwamis, they could get her up a bit sooner, but no such luck. Getting herself ready in a hurry, she couldn't help but stop and glance at the photos of Adrien. She still couldn't form a proper sentence in front of him, so confessing was still off the table. She wished things could be simpler for them, like she could just talk to him like she does with any of her friends. She actually wished she could directly speak her feelings like Chat Noir. That thought made her sad about rejecting him again. He really was a wonderful guy. Heck, maybe if she hadn't met Adrien first...

"Marinette, you're going to be late, again." Tikki interrupted her thoughts.

Marinette did an involuntary shriek before hastily running down the stairs and heading out the door after a quick good morning to her parents. She had the school in sight, and was getting ready to sprint through the doors, when she noticed that everyone was actually leaving the building. She spotted Alya with Nino at the top of the stairs and ran up to them.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" she said between pants, catching her breath.

"Apparently there's an akuma, and a really nasty one." Alya answered, checking her phone for any news.

Marinette took a quick look around. "Where's Adrien?"

"His dad wanted him to come right back home when the alert went off. Dude ran off saying he would meet his driver halfway." Nino answered.

"Oh, that's good." Marinette felt a little calmer.

"Huh, that's weird." Alya muttered to herself.

"What is it, Alya?" she looked over to her friend's phone.

"Well, at first it was a strange akuma wearing a cape in one part of Paris, but it disappeared. Now the news is saying that it's a completely different person across town, but its destroying everything." she turned her phone to Nino and Marinette to show the screen with Nadja Chamack on it.

"Well Paris it seems that whatever akuma we saw before has been replaced by a much more dangerous one. It is throwing bolts of light that disintegrates anything it touches."

Nadja's words sent off warning bells in Marinette's head. This was sounding way too familiar.

"Wait, I just received footage from our helicopter, and we can see what appears to be a completely white Chat Noir. Could Paris' hero have been akumatized?..."

"NO, That's Impossible!" Marinette practically screamed in fear.

"Woah, dudette, calm down. I'm sure Ladybug will fix things if that is Chat Noir." Nino tried to calm her.

"Y-yeah, you're right. Ladybug will fix everything." Marinette was trying to convince herself more than anyone. "Well, I better get home where it's safe."

"Do you want me to come with you?" Alya asked, looking at her to secretly ask if she's going to need Rena Rouge.

"No, no that's okay, I'll be fine." she answered, and made a dash for the bakery.

She ran up back through her house, not even stopping for her parents, who were too busy with customers. She quickly made it up to her room, only to stop and pull her satchel open to let Tikki out. She wanted to scream, to cry, to quickly transform to find this supposed Chat Blanc, or just crawl into her covers and pray this was all just a bad dream.

"Tikki, what could have happened to him?! He seemed fine last night." she exclaimed.

"I'm not sure Marinette, but we won't know for sure until we go over there and face him." Tikki floated over to her holder's face and nuzzled her cheek in reassurance.

Marinette was about to head for the balcony, but quickly did a double back to the sewing box. "Fluff! I need to talk to Fluff!"

"Marinette, I don't think that..." Tikki tried to intervene, but she could easily see there was no stopping her owner.

She pulled Fluff out, whom was still fast asleep. "Fluff wake up! Listen, Chat Blanc is back! I need to know if something messed up in the timeline!" she gently shook the little rabbit kwami.

"Huh... wha... Chat... what color?" the poor kwami was struggling to keep his eyes open.

"Chat Blanc, remember, when he got akumatized?" she was trying not to panic.

"What, no, Santa... Antheses eve was months ago... just put the... sandpaper... backn tha... cookie jar." and he was out again.

"I know when it happened last time! I need to know if another future disaster is going on." Marinette sighed and placed the kwami back.

"Marinette maybe something else is going on here, we should head out before he causes even more damage." Tikki suggested.

"You're right. Tikki, Spots On!" she quickly zipped off to where the akuma was spotted.

The damage left by the akuma's power was devastating. It was strange how the power of destruction worked. Sometimes it seemed like it caused things to crumble and wither away like several of the buildings that were missing walls. It was like watching the tide take out a sandcastle. Then other times Chat Noir's cataclysm looked like it sent things forward in time. Ladybug could see several cars that were rusted away to almost nothing. She only prayed that there hadn't been any people that got in the line of fire.

Finally, she spotted him. The image of her countless nightmares, just as she remembered. He was flicking little balls of light at random objects in the street, destroying them on contact. Several people were trying to get away from him, and he would block their path by jumping over to be in front of them, then sent a cataclysm at their feet to make them run the other way. Ladybug couldn't let this go on.

"Chat Noir Stop!" she swung forward, and got his attention focused on her rather than the Parisians.

He didn't say anything at first. He just stood there staring at her, with his hand still charged with a cataclysm pointed at her. Maybe she could talk him down like last time. "Easy Kitty, let's just calm down, and let me purify the akuma."

"You're not the one." he spoke in a very monotoned voice.

"Huh, what? Chat what are you talking about?" she crept closer and closer to him, hoping to reach his bell before he got away.

"Get back you Imposter!" His voice was louder, but it still lacked emotion. He then threw the small cataclysm in her direction, forcing her to dive away from the attack.

"Chat, snap out of it! This isn't you!" she threw her yoyo to try and get a hold of him, but he was able to dodge it and fire another cataclysm.

"You're not Real! You're not the one." he said again with little emotion, then he ran toward her, ready to strike with his claws.

Ladybug guarded herself with her spinning shield. "What are you saying? It's me, Ladybug."

"Like I'll believe your lies!" he said plainly.

"What?" she dodged him again and leaped away to get out of the line of fire. "I don't know what happened, kitty, but I promise I'm going to fix it. I'll get the akuma..."

"I won't waste my time with Imposters like you." he shot off a much larger ball of destructive energy and aimed it at the building she was standing next to.

Ladybug tried to swing away, but the falling rubble got in the way of her yoyo. One of the bricks had hit her shoulder, and she fell to her knees in a hiss of pain. She forced herself back on her feet quickly, and leaped out of danger, only to be cornered again by Chat Blanc. He pulled out his staff for the first time, and knocked her off her feet. She landed poorly, and had trouble catching her breath. All she could do was look up at the icy blue eyes of her partner.

"You won't get away from me." he said simply, readying another cataclysm.

"Chat... please..." she tried to say between breaths.

There was no way she could stop him. Ladybug didn't understand what could have happened to him. Was this Shadowmoth's doing? Did he trick him as well as akumatize him? She only hoped that Chat Noir would be able to break free, and fix this himself, because she didn't see a way for her to escape. She closed her eyes and waited for the cataclysm to strike her. She hoped it didn't hurt too much, given that it was a more powerful version, so maybe it would be quick.

She waited a few seconds. Then a few more. She still felt alive. She opened one eye to look, and saw Chat Blanc on the ground several yards away. Then up in front of her was someone else.

"Now is that anyway to treat a lady?" the newcomer said. He sounded just like...

"Chat Noir?" she sat up to get a better look. If this was Chat Noir, he looked even more different than Chat Blanc.

"Geez, Scar, did the white kitty hit you that hard if..." he turned to look at her for the first time. "Hey, you're not Scarlet Lady."

"Umm, no I'm Ladybug, who are you?" she was able to get a better look at his face.

His whole costume was different. Granted it seemed to be a similar leather like his usual black suit, but it was a deep purple with black stripes. He had a black gauntlet with chains on his right hand. His eyes still had the same green with cat irises. And then there was his hair. Rather than the cornflower color, it was purple like the suit with black streaks, save for the side of his face which was white like a tiger's fur. Did he get the tiger miraculous? How? Then she realized he was answering her.

"I'm Tigre Mauve. Now excuse me while I take care of this stray." he then made a charge at Chat Blanc.

Ladybug was really confused. So did this mean that Chat Blanc wasn't her kitty? And if that wasn't him, then who was this new one? More importantly, where was her Chat Noir?

An: And that's chapter two. Funny thing is I had this story all worked out in my head, and drafted several chapters months ago. Then all the multiverse stuff became a popularity for a while, and I have this thing against doing what everyone else is, so I was going to let it die down for a while. I'll admit some inspiration came from the Into the Spiderverse movie, but again this story was before the other stuff. Anyway, I would like to take this moment to give another acknowledgement to zoeonee-sama, and for any references related to her comic. I did have to take a small liberty for my story, which I'll explain why at a later chapter, but I would never do anything that disrespects anothers work. I hope everyone enjoyed, and will be back for more.
