Two days later…
Doctor's Office…
Colby and David were both waiting nervously for the results, as while Colby mostly felt fine physically, he did have some pain in his gut, so he hoped that the doctors would be able to see if they could do something about it without having to do any transplant.
"You okay, Colby?" David asked, a little worried about his friend
"Mostly, I'm just nervous and that feeling in my stomach might be a result of that but at least I'll know after the tests." Colby said, hoping that would be the case.
"It'll be okay, Colby, we will deal with whatever the results might be." David said, hoping he would be able to help his friend with whatever happens
"Thanks." Colby said quietly as he wondered what either of them could do about it.
A few minutes later, the doctor called both Colby and David into his office, as he knew that the man would need his friend for some support.
"So… What's the word doc?" Colby asked anxiously
"Well, first, your lungs are doing better, however, it looks like your liver isn't doing that well, like we were concerned could happen." The doctor said, getting to the point.
"Does it mean..?" Colby started to ask
"Unfortunately, it looks like you will need a transplant, so we will have to put you on the list until we find a donor." The doctor confirmed sympathetically
"Could this kill me?" Colby asked worriedly, trying to not think of the worst scenarios
"Yes but we will work to make sure that doesn't happen." The doctor said
"Try testing me." David blurted out, "I mean you don't want to leave any stone unturned, right?"
Both Colby and the doctor seemed a bit surprised by his suggestion but that was quickly replaced with relief of the possibility.
"Sure, we can arrange for tests tomorrow and see if you are a good match or not, though I should tell you that recovery will take time for both of you, meaning you would have to avoid the more physical parts of your jobs." The Doctor warned
"Ok, I need to talk to my supervisor and see how we can work this out." Colby said, as he knew he needed to work some things out before they could do any possible surgery.
"So, do I, as I am mainly visiting from Los Angeles, which I hope doesn't complicate things too much." David said, as he knew that he was also going to have to talk to Don about the situation.
"Well, we do the test tomorrow and if you two are a match, then we can work out more of the details." The doctor said
Colby waited until they left the building and were in the car when he turned to ask David, "Are you sure about this?"
"Yes, because we need to start somewhere for donors and you are my best friend, Colby, despite my actions of the past few months otherwise, I just want to make sure that you will be okay." David said, as he was also truthfully nervous about the potential results but he needed to make sure Colby was going to be okay first.
"Thanks, David," Colby said, touched by his friend's words, "You are the best friend anyone can have."
David smiled, as he knew that they were getting back on the right track again, and they can move forward after the surgery.
