Several weeks later…

David turned out to be a good match for Colby and they decided to do the surgery after Colby's liver was getting closer to failure and they didn't have any other options, as Colby's sister was a different blood type and Colby didn't want to try with his other family, as he still had issues with them and many of them aren't in any shape for organ transplant anyway.

It was decided, for a number of reasons, that they would do the surgery in Los Angeles, as Colby's new team was still working on their case and it turned out bigger than they thought, and the fact DC doctors were not available for the transplant but LA was, and Colby was considering transferring back to LA, as Don was working on a way for Colby to continue working on the FBI after his medical leave.

The surgery in itself went well, with no complications for either man, which was a relief to everyone.

While the two men were recovering, they shared a hospital room, which they used to their advantage to further discuss things to further help deal with any lingering issues between them and ensure they would still be best friends.

Don stopped by, telling them that he and Robin were getting married the next month and asked if they were still up to attending, which they both immediately said yes, as they didn't want to miss out on something like their boss finally getting married. The baby was due shortly after that so they didn't want to wait too much longer before the day arrived.

"We wouldn't miss it for the world, boss." Colby said with a smile

"Thanks, I just don't want two of my groomsmen to keel over during the vows and the reception now, do we?" Don said chuckling before he waved them goodbye

"Boss, uh?" David said with a smile, "Does that mean you are officially coming back?"

"Yep, and I will be on the same team as you and Liz, with Megan still as the lead." Colby said with a smile

"Think you would ever want to lead a team of your own?" David asked, though he knew Colby would probably balk at that

"Don't know, I will have to see how things go for me before I decide on that." Colby said honestly, as he wanted to see how he recovered first before he would decide anything

"Well, just know, whatever you decide, we will all support you." David said earnestly

"I know David, thanks." Colby said with a smile
