8 Months Later…
LA FBI Office…
Colby smiled as he walked into the office, happy with his decision to stay on Megan's team, as he can still see his old friends and be able to put the entire Janus List fiasco behind him and have a great partnership with David and start a relationship with Liz.
The thought of him and Liz being together was odd at first but as time went on, he realized that it made sense and he was grateful to have someone in his life, other than his friends in the FBI.
Don and Robin were doing well, as their daughter, Maggie Charlotte Brooks-Eppes, was the apple in their eyes and Colby had never seen his boss so happy.
Charlie and Amita married two months earlier, as they decided it was the best time, as everyone had busy schedules, though it was still a great wedding, especially with Alan's cooking, which was appreciated by everyone.
He was also happy to see David and Claudia doing well, as David was in a better headspace both personally and professionally and was grateful that people forgave him for his behavior during those dreaded months.
Colby smiled when he saw David and Megan had come in around the same time and saw that they were smiling too, making him wonder if there was some news soon to come.
"Hey guys, what's up?" Colby asked, wondering what the fuss is all about.
"Oh, we're waiting for some news, as it might confirm some rumors going around but we will wait until Don finishes meeting with Merrick." Megan answered, who now looked anxious along with her smile.
That piqued Colby's interest, as he wondered what that could be, as he saw that David seemed to know what was going on, though Colby decided it was best to wait until later to talk about it when they went out for beers, which David had told him yesterday he wanted to discuss some things.
An hour later, Don came up to his former team, with an anxious smile on his face, which told Colby that something big was happening and it was good news.
"Hey, Don, what was it that Merrick wanted to talk to you about? Was it what we have been hearing the last month?" A curious and equally anxious Megan asked
"Yeah, it's what we have been hearing, he is going to retire at the end of the month as Assistant Director and he wants me to replace him." Don said with a smile
"Congrats Don!" Colby said, as he was just excited that Don was going to do well in the position.
"Thanks, Colb." Don said smiling before he turned to Megan to say, "The position of Special Agent in Charge is yours if you want."
"Thanks, Don, I do." Megan said enthusiastically
"David, that means you will be team leader." Colby said to David, who looked both surprised and pleased at the possibility.
"Yeah, it does and it means that you get to be my second-in-command." David said with a smile with both Don and Megan nodding in agreement.
"David…I would be honored." Colby said, trying not to choke up at his friend's offer
"Don't mention it Colby, we will talk more about it at the bar." David said smiling
"Look forward to it." Colby said, though he wondered if David had something else he wanted to talk about.
Evening…
Jackson's Bar…
Colby smiled as he saw that David already had a table for them and quickly made his way to it, as it had been his first night off in a couple months and wanted to catch up with David more.
"Hey, Colby, thanks for coming." David said
"Hey, who could pass up a good beer with his best friend." Colby said smiling
"No one." David said laughing
"What a day uh, with all the changes going on in the FBI happening again." Colby mused
"Yeah, though there is more news, though it is more personal." David said smiling
"Oh what's that?" Colby asked, wondering what it could possibly be, though he had some idea it had to do with Claudia.
"I asked Claudia to marry me and I want you to be my best man." David said with a smile
Colby beamed, as he was so happy for his friend marrying someone he loved and he gets to be a part of it.
"That's great David and yeah, it would be an honor to be your best man." Colby said with a smile
David grinned as he and Colby did a toast, to the future for both him and Claudia and for the team with him and Colby leading it.
Two friends, once torn apart, are now together again and can now move forward to whatever they face in the present and in the future.
