The group looked in fear and backed up as the sea serpent lowered its head and stopped with about two metres distance from them.
"What's the matter with you?" it asked.
"You won't hurt our partners." Gotsumon raised its fists in a ready stance.
The sea serpent backed up. "I don't want to eat any of you. Are you crazy?"
"Are you sure?" Floramon shook slightly.
The sea serpent sighed. "Yes I'm sure. Do none of you know about the world beyond this island?"
"We've only just become Rookie Level today." Mushroomon answered.
"Very well. My name is Seadramon." Seadramon introduced. "I circle the island and transport any Digimon that can't easily cross the sea to the mainland."
"Will you take us?" Daisy asked.
"Of course." Seadramon agreed.
Seadramon backed into the sea and began to spin around before launching itself into the air and floated towards the group. "Climb on."
Hesitantly, they did. FanBeemon helped them climb aboard. The humans found Seadramon's body slimy, but unbelievably able to get a firm grip on its body.
They were over the water and back on land within five minutes. Seadramon let its passengers off and dove back into the sea. The group looked at the surrounding area. If it wasn't for the fact that they knew they had crossed the sea, they would swear that they were on the same beach as when they first met Seadramon.
"Now what?" Gordon asked.
"Well, I'm starting to get a little hungry." Leo piped up. "What do you say we try to find something or somewhere to eat?"
No-one had thought about it until then, but since he had brought it up, everyone was starting to feel hungry. They walked along the beach heading towards a large rock that would provide some shade since the sun was getting high in the sky.
"How is it getting so close to midday?" Gordon asked. "It was pretty early when we were brought here."
"We weren't brought here." Leo argued again.
"Well, you were sleeping for a while before you woke up." Mushroomon admitted.
"What?" Leo looked down at the mushroom.
They reached the rock and sat down in the shade. The Digimon stood by the humans, looking at them.
"Do you mind?" Lily snorted. "You're freaking me out."
"Sorry." Floramon apologised. "There's never been any humans here before."
"I doubt there have been." Gordon agreed. "This is a demo."
"What's a demo?" Gotsumon questioned.
"That's a little hard to explain." Gordon replied. "But it's something like a preview of a game before it's officially released but it only lets you play a small portion of it."
Gotsumon blinked at Gordon. "I understood none of that."
Gordon growled slightly and looked at Gotsumon. It was clear that there was a knowledgeable gap.
"Have any of you Digimon got a map?" Daisy suddenly asked.
"Why?" Leo asked.
"Because we may be able to try to work out where we are and where the best place is that we can go." She explained. "So, do any of you have a map?"
The five Digimon shook their heads.
"This stupid thing!" John blurted out.
"What?" FanBeemon asked, looking over John's shoulder.
"I'm trying to figure out this watch's buttons but apart from the clock, it's saying the other screens are empty." John explained. "There's not even any clues as to what they might be. It just says 'EMPTY'."
Gordon tried the buttons on the watch and confirmed what John was saying. Leo stood up and clapped his hands. "Right, come on. Let's just go and try to find something to eat."
Ten minutes later, and the group had cleared the beach and were heading towards a group of buildings.
"Are we even sure this place is going to be larger than that little village?" Lily asked.
"There's a good chance." Floramon guessed. "That was a unique place for Digimon to hatch."
"Hopefully, they'll have somewhere to eat." Leo sighed. "I'm starving."
Gordon smirked, knowing about his brothers appetite. He followed close, with Gotsumon staying close to him, like Mushroomon to Leo.
Gordon looked down at Gotsumon. "Hey Gotsumon, how did you all decide who was your partner?"
"We were chosen." Gotsumon answered. "By you."
"How did we choose you?" Daisy asked.
"We don't know." Liollmon replied. "We just know that you chose us."
"I was picked first." Floramon smiled.
"Secondly, I was chosen." FanBeemon inputted.
"Then it was me." Gotsumon added.
"I was next." Mushroomon said.
"And I was last." Liollmon finished. "Why was I chosen last?"
"Who knows?" John replied. "But there's a reason for everything."
"What does that mean?" FanBeemon questioned.
John realised what he had said and instantly felt his face flush. Gordon noticed this and made the decision to ask him about that later.
They reached the border of the village, feeling relieved when the village seemed to at least accommodate people their size. As a group, they began to walk through the streets, wondering where the population was.
"Hello?" Leo called.
"Are we going to have to call out every time we get somewhere?" Lily sighed.
Walking further in the heart of the village, they saw that the townspeople, if they could be called that, were gathered around an ancient-looking statue. It seemed to be a humanoid lion wearing a cap and a cape that was sculpted to be blowing in the wind.
One of the creatures, a cloaked figure floating above a book, was by the statue, talking to the others. "It is this day, that we honour the great protector of this area; BanchoLeomon."
"Who's BanchoLeomon?" whispered Leo.
"I don't know." Shrugged Mushroomon.
"As we all know," the speaker continued, "BanchoLeomon was the renowned leader of a group of only five Digimon known as 'Bancho'. It was this group that had previously saved our world from complete chaos and destruction."
The crowd cheered. The group of ten looked around at the cheering Digimon, they had been told that only Digimon inhabit the land, and noticed that there were a variety of different looking Digimon. Some looked like bears, rabbits, flowers and various other creatures that reminded the humans of animals from their world.
"Let the festival begin!" the book Digimon announced.
With a final cheer, the Digimon dispersed and began to visit various stalls that had been set up.
Gordon shrugged his shoulders and walked to one of the stalls that sold various edible goods. Lily had noticed a stall that sold jewellery and decided to look there. Leo, Daisy and John stayed together and looked around as a small group.
John noticed a lone stall decorated with symbols that was being manned by an actual angel. And it was clearly a female angel. She had long blonde hair and her eyes were covered by a metal helmet. She had a pink ribbon wrapped around her arms that was somehow held up over her head.
"What do you do?" John asked.
The angel turned to face him. "You're not a Digimon."
"No." John confirmed. "I'm human."
"Well, I'm afraid my abilities won't work on humans." She replied, then turning to FanBeemon. "But I would consider it a challenge to work with a Digimon such as you FanBeemon."
"I'm afraid I don't have any money Angewomon." FanBeemon shook his head.
"You guys have money?" John asked, surprised.
"Of course we do." Angewomon told him. "How else would we buy what we need?"
"I'm sorry." John said. "I'm new to this world."
Angewomon nodded and held her hand out. "Well, it was nice to meet you at any rate."
John shook her hand and FanBeemon followed after. As Angewomon shook FanBeemon's hand, or the equivalent in John's opinion, she gasped and quickly pulled her hand back to herself. She began to breathe heavily.
"Come on FanBeemon." John suggested, seeing Angewomon's discomfort.
The two of them caught back up to Leo and Daisy, not seeing Angewomon watching them walk away.
Gordon and Gotsumon had found a contest that if they won, would get them a large amount of money. The only catch was that Gordon knew the humans would have no chance of winning.
"Step right up." The pink Digimon called out. "In just one hour, my friend Labramon will Digivolve and whomever guesses what she Digivolves into, will win all this money!"
Gordon and Gotsumon looked at the sheet and saw that several guesses were already made. It was clear that it was the players own choice. But Gordon could not read the guesses since they were written in a different language he did not recognise.
"What do you think Gotsumon?" Gordon asked.
"Don't ask me." Gotsumon retorted. "I have no idea."
"No idea about what?" asked a voice.
Gordon and Gotsumon turned and saw Lily and Floramon approach them. Gordon explained about the guessing game. Lily looked at Floramon who smiled.
"I'll have a guess." Floramon said, receiving a coin from Lily.
"Where did you get that?" Gordon questioned.
"A lady never reveals her secrets." Lily smiled.
Floramon handed over the coin and looked at Labramon. It was a simple dog-looking Digimon with white fur and pink ears. Floramon looked to be thinking. She made a noise of realisation and began to write her guess down in the same language as the other guesses.
"What did you guess?" Gordon wanted to know.
"Can't you read?" Gotsumon asked.
"It looks like a bunch of weird symbols to me." Gordon admitted.
"I can't read it either." Lily added.
Floramon and Gotsumon looked at each other and shrugged, mumbling something about humans.
Gordon looked again at his watch and pressed a few buttons, hoping to find something that wasn't labelled 'EMPTY'. He caught a button he didn't mean to and a symbol of a microphone appeared.
"Is this a mic?" he asked himself.
He looked over at Lily as he heard a faint voice. She looked around, seemingly trying to find the source of the voice.
Gordon moved the watch closer to his mouth. "Lily, please approach Gordon." Lily looked towards Gordon and walked towards him. "Stop." Lily stopped. Gordon smiled and looked at the watch, seeing that only one symbol was darkened. He pressed the button closest to the others and it darkened another whilst the first was lightened. Gordon continued pressing the button, seeing symbols lighten and darken in a pattern until all four symbols were darkened. Gordon looked for a landmark and realised that he and Lily was nearby the statue of BanchoLeomon. "Alright guys, I know you can hear me. I've discovered that these watches have a walkie talkie like thing going on. Can everyone meet at the BanchoLeomon statue? We need to learn which symbol corresponds to which one of us."
Gordon, Lily and the Digimon went to the statue and waited for the others to show up.
"So Floramon, what did you guess anyway?" Gordon asked again, just to pass the time. "You know, since Lily and I can't even read your guess."
Floramon looked at Gotsumon. "Should I tell them?"
"I don't see any reason why not?" Gotsumon answered.
"I think Labramon will Digivolve into a Dobermon." Floramon whispered. "But no-one else guessed that."
"Well, I wouldn't have guessed that." Gordon smiled.
Floramon giggled as Gordon heard his name being called. He looked and saw Leo walking towards him with Daisy, John, Liollmon, Mushroomon and FanBeemon.
"So, what's the big deal?" Leo asked.
Gordon showed the others which button to press on the watch. "We need to discuss this in person. If you press this button, these watches work like walkie talkies and we can even talk to just one person or two depending on which symbols is darkened. We need to work out which symbol belongs to which person."
"Why didn't you wait to tell us this later on?" Leo asked.
"Well, how would we have known where to meet and how would we have told each other?" Gordon asked again.
"We would have met up at some point." Leo said. "But we do need to work out whose symbols are whose."
After a quick five minutes, everyone had learnt the symbols, now it was just a matter or remembering the symbols.
"How long before the contest?" Lily asked.
"That Digimon said an hour but I didn't check the time." Lily admitted. "Come on Floramon, let's check back."
Lily and Floramon walked away while John and Daisy decided to have a further look around. Gordon looked at Leo. "How are you doing?"
Leo looked back at his brother. "As best as can be expected."
"What does that mean?" Mushroomon asked.
"He's still dealing with all this." Gordon answered.
"That's putting it mildly." Leo muttered.
Gordon smiled slightly. "Don't worry, you'll come around."
Leo began fiddling with his watch, the only thing that he brought with him. since they hadn't expected to be long in the town, Leo and Gordon had left their mobile phones at home and the only other thing Gordon had brought was his wallet. And it was clear from the coin that Floramon had used that the money Gordon had, was useless.
"Come on Leo, let's see what else there is." Gordon suggested.
Leo grunted and stood up, following Gordon back to the festival. They found a stage that had five Digimon performing a dance number. Four of them were the same whilst the Digimon in the centre was a different one. From a distance, the four same Digimon were humanoid women wearing flower themed clothes. A four petal-looking thing covered their backs whilst their feet seemed to be just white flowers.
The singular Digimon was shorter than the others, but seemed to be wearing a pink skirt with green wellington boots and four straight leaves on her back. She seemed to have green sleeves on her forearms that ended in yellow petals. She had a pink flower on her head with a yellow stem sticking out.
Despite the fact that they only saw about a minutes worth of dancing, Leo and Gordon were impressed with what they had seen and clapped with the other Digimon when they had finished.
After twenty minutes of more performances, Gordon noticed the pink Digimon and Labramon approaching the stage. The rest of the group had found the two brothers and stood with them.
"Labramon looks funny." Gordon said.
Since only the three of them had seen Labramon before, Lily, Floramon and Gotsumon agreed that Labramon did not look too healthy.
"Ok everyone." The pink Digimon announced. "For those of you who don't know, my name is Pomumon and my friend Labramon here is very close to Digivolving." Labramon coughed. "Labramon wanted to make it a game and together, we made a stall to guess her Digivolved form to raise money for the victims of the mysterious new virus sweeping the world."
"What virus?" FanBeemon asked himself.
Pomumon looked at Labramon. "And since Labramon seems to be struggling, I will now hand everything over to my dear friend." Pomumon ran to the edge of the stage as Labramon let out a long sigh.
Labramon began to glow with a yellow light. Labramon began to scream and soon, dark patches began to gather around Labramon.
"Labramon?" Pomumon asked, cautiously walking to its friend.
A low growl came from Labramon. "Labramon Digivolve to…" Labramon growled. And judging by Pomumon, the voice was absolutely terrifying. Soon, Labramon was enveloped in a dark swirling cloud that grew larger than what Pomumon thought it should be. The dark cloud began to dissipate and revealed a large black, menacing looking dog. "Dobermon-X."
She now had a collar over her neck with eight long spikes and two silver curved blades coming out of her body and one on each leg. With every exhale, the newly named Dobermon-X let out a growl that sent shivers down everyone's spines.
Pomumon went to Dobermon-X and looked her in the eyes. "Do you remember me?" Pomumon flinched when Dobermon-X spun her head and looked back at Pomumon. "Are you okay?" Dobermon-X opened her mouth.
"Grau Lärm." Dobermon-X said, sending a wave of dark energy over Pomumon, who screamed.
When the energy faded, Pomumon was nowhere to be seen. But the air where Pomumon was, seemed to be distorted for a few seconds before it settled down.
Before they knew it, the crowd began screaming and running away. Dobermon-X leapt off the stage and began firing the dark energy at random.
A beam of energy headed for the group who used that moment to run away. The girls had managed to hide underneath a table with John and FanBeemon managing to hide in a tent with a clear view of Dobermon-X.
Gordon and Leo had for some reason, managed to run around Dobermon-X and found themselves back on the stage. Mushroomon and Gotsumon stood in front of them, ready to protect their partners if need be.
When Dobermon-X turned back to the stage and saw Gordon, Leo and their Digimon, she growled and leapt toward them. Leo, Gotsumon and Mushroomon ran one way whilst Gordon had ran the other.
Gordon had tripped and fell on the floor. He looked back and saw saliva dripping from Dobermon-X's mouth. Just as Dobermon-X stepped toward Gordon, she yelped. She spun around and saw Mushroomon and Gotsumon glaring at him.
After snarling, Dobermon-X began to target the two Digimon. Gotsumon and Mushroomon each fired their attacks and knocked Dobermon-X off target. She crashed into the back of the stage.
Gotsumon ran to Gordon and helped him sit up. "Are you alright?"
"No. I'm half-left." Gordon answered.
"You're making that joke now?" Leo called. "Get off the stage!"
Gordon ran to the edge of the stage but stopped when he heard a loud bark. He turned around, seeing Dobermon-X glaring at him. Gordon began to breathe heavily, definitely feeling the fear.
"Gordon!" Leo called, worried for his brothers safety.
Gotsumon felt a rage deep within himself. Gordon was in danger, and it was all Dobermon-X's fault. No-one was going to hurt Gordon if he could help it. Gotsumon broke into a run and glowed yellow. "Gotsumon Digivolve to…Rhinomon!"
Still glowing, the newly named Rhinomon charged into Dobermon-X, knocking it off the stage. The yellow glow died down, revealing a golden armored rhino with only its mouth, knees and ears unprotected. Instead of an actual horn, the armor was made to resemble a small lance.
"What just happened?!" Leo exclaimed, making Mushroomon flinch slightly.
"Gotsumon Digivolved." Mushroomon gasped.
Dobermon-X pulled herself up and looked at Rhinomon. "Grau Lärm!"
"Ain Soph Aur!" Rhinomon called, the red jewels on his body glowing and creating a barrier of light.
The dark energy hit Rhinomon's barrier. Gordon looked at Rhinomon, seeing that the dark energy was slightly more powerful than the barrier.
"Charge at her!" Gordon called. "You may be able to take her by surprise!"
Rhinomon gave a grunt of agreement. "Atomic Burst!"
Taking a step forward, Rhinomon found that the dark energy was not as strong when he was moving. He took another step and began to build momentum. He began to charge at Dobermon-X, the light barrier not losing any strength. Dobermon-X tried to intensify her attack, but Rhinomon was unfazed.
Once he reached Dobermon-X, Rhinomon charged and knocked Dobermon-X into the air and soon, she crashed into the ground. Rhinomon stopped glowing and kept a watchful eye on Dobermon-X. She tried to get on her feet, but fell back to the floor and glowed yellow.
Her body shrank back down and revealed her previous form of Labramon. Labramon squirmed and opened her eyes. "Pomumon?"
"Labramon?" Floramon asked, emerging from under her hiding place with Liollmon, Daisy and Lily. John and FanBeemon emerged and joined Gordon.
"Is everyone alright?" Lily asked.
"I'm fine." Gordon smiled. "Thanks to Rhinomon here."
"Where's Gotsumon?" Daisy asked.
Gordon scratched his head. "As far as I can tell, Rhinomon is Gotsumon."
Rhinomon turned to face the group. "Hi everyone."
"Gotsumon?" John asked.
Rhinomon nodded. "When I'm in this form, I'm called Rhinomon."
"So, you change forms and names?" Gordon asked.
"We all do." Liollmon said. "But the majority of us don't know what our new forms will be until we actually Digivolve."
"So what do we do now?" Leo asked.
"I don't know." Gordon answered.
"Where's Pomumon?" Labramon asked. Everyone looked at each other, wondering how best to break the news. "What happened? I don't remember anything."
"You Digivolved." Floramon started. "But you lost control."
"I lost control?" Labramon questioned, visions starting to enter her mind. "No, I would never."
"I'm afraid you did." Gordon repeated. "Rhinomon had to stop you before you destroyed everything. And everyone."
"Everyone?" Labramon whispered, then look at Gordon. "Where…is…Pomumon?"
Gordon looked at the others before turning to Labramon. He knelt down and looked Labramon in the eyes. "Labramon, there's no easy way to tell you this, but I'm afraid Pomumon was…the first casualty."
"Pomumon, is dead?" Labramon began to cry.
"I'm afraid so." Daisy confirmed, slowly coming to Labramon to console her.
Labramon began to howl in sorrow and tears fell from her face.
It was a good twenty minutes before Labramon had calmed down enough to talk again and think about what to do next. Luckily, the lead Digimon from the dancing group had shown up and offered to take care of Labramon.
As an apology, Labramon had offered to give the group the prize money as a way of saying thank you for stopping her. Whilst they had initially refused, Labramon had insisted since the money would be a reminder of Pomumon, so they divided the money between the five of them.
As they were walking towards a restaurant that Labramon had told them about, Gordon looked at Rhinomon. "So Rhinomon, how are you feeling?"
"I feel fine." Rhinomon replied.
Gordon smiled slightly. "No, I mean how does it feel to walk on two legs one minute, then suddenly to be walking on four legs."
Rhinomon thought, then answered. "I don't really find it to be weird. It just feels normal." Then suddenly, Rhinomon glowed yellow and shrunk down back into Gotsumon. "How about that?"
Gordon's eyes widened slightly, seeing Gotsumon again. "Are you feeling alright?"
Gotsumon looked at his hands, then at Gordon. "I feel a little weak."
"Well, it can't be easy." Gordon thought. "You changed from Tumblemon and then you changed into Rhinomon all in one day."
"Maybe." Gotsumon agreed.
They arrived at the restaurant and were seated at two tables. The humans at one table and the Digimon at the other.
After two Digimon known as Burgermon took their orders, it was only five minutes before the food was delivered. After discussing the day's events over their burgers, as they were leaving, Daisy noticed a pamphlet about a virus sweeping the world.
She turned to a Burgermon and asked if she could keep one. She looked over the piece of paper, but it only had basic information. It only warned about being careful about staying to close to unfamiliar Digimon, or even Digimon that look different to what they should look like.
They decided to leave the small settlement to see if someone somewhere else would be able to help them.
