Summary: In retrospect, Shinichi would have to admit that going to a KID heist as he was about to go into heat could be seen as asking for trouble. On the other hand, that might just have been the point. There's more than one way to catch a thief.

Note: This series uses my version of an ABO setup. Also, chronologically, this installment would be set after "The Ups and Downs of Mating". Other installments currently up include "The Long Way Round", "A Shocking Turn" and "The Trouble with Love". I am posting them as I finish, so they're not in order.

If You've Got It

[Nature of Love series]

Looking back on everything later, Shinichi would definitely blame his hormones. Hadn't he always said that those things just caused trouble? But had anyone ever listened? Of course not. But here was a prime example in support of his argument about why betas were lucky to be betas. After all, if he had been in a more stable state of mind, he was pretty sure he would have realized that going to a Kaitou KID heist just when he was about to go into heat was a terrible idea for a multitude of reasons. At the time, however, due to his aforementioned state of mind, it had simply struck him as royally unfair that Kaito had all but ordered him to stay home when the alpha himself was going out to have fun (a.k.a. conduct a heist).

Seriously, was that fair? Of course it wasn't. Oh sure, Kaito had explained that he couldn't schedule this particular heist for a different time because the jewel he wanted was about to be placed in a time capsule to be opened in a hundred years, making tonight the only full moon before the damned thing would have to be excavated for examination from under a three ton monument. Basically, it was now or never (a more rational Shinichi might have pointed out that this was a good reason that this particular jewel didn't need to be checked. After all, it would be a whole freaking hundred years before it would matter one way or another whether it was Pandora, and anyone who cared about that now would almost certainly not be around to care about it then. Add to that the fact that everyone except Kaito himself who had a known interest in Pandora was currently in jail and, well, saying that checking the jewel was urgent was a very weak argument. Alas, Shinichi wasn't thinking straight, so he failed to point out these obvious facts. On the other hand, he strongly suspected that his mate just wanted another chance to mess with old Jirokichi and Nakamori's Task Force in front of a big and fancy audience). But Shinichi would have to sit the heist out because going into crowded places when he was on the verge of going into heat would be all but asking for trouble.

Kaito had fully expected his typically very pragmatic mate to see the logic behind his reasoning and acquiesce to both the heist and the fact that he, Shinichi, would have to skip it. Kaito had, however, forgotten that Shinichi's temper tended to get a bit whacky when he was nearing heat, and this was the first time Kaito had ever scheduled a heist so close to one of Shinichi's cycles. The combination of the unexpected abandonment by his usually considerate if often overbearing mate and his pre-heat irritability had had Shinichi deciding then and there that he was going to the heist no matter what.

Naturally, he did not tell Kaito this. After all, though his judgment might be a little impaired, he wasn't stupid. If his overprotective mate found out what he was planning, Shinichi would probably find himself tied to their bed on the night of the heist (and damn it, that should not sound so exciting. Obviously his hormones were making him crazy) or something else equally drastic.

So it was that, on the evening of the heist, Shinichi curled up on an armchair in the library with a book and pretended to read as he listened to Kaito getting ready to leave. When the magician thief popped his head into the library to tell him that he would be setting out, Shinichi made a disgruntled noise and studiously ignored him as he had been doing since Kaito had informed him of his plans. The thief pouted a little at getting given the cold shoulder, but he figured he would have ample time to soothe his prickly mate's ruffled feathers when he got back.

The moment he was sure Kaito had left the house, however, he leapt up and rushed to change.

The heist was taking place during a formal party being held by the Suzukis to celebrate the opening of their new arts center. As such, they had decided to include in their festivities the burying of a time capsule containing a variety of representative artworks from modern artists. Among these was the work of an up and coming jeweler who they had commissioned to design a pendant specifically to represent the modern age. The pendant, however, included a large diamond that had once adorned a piece belonging to a beautiful lady from ancient times said to have been a witch.

In any case, you had to be in formal dress and have an invitation to get into the party. Shinichi, fortunately, had both. He also checked that he'd already taken his contraceptive pills and made sure to spray on a scent masker. He knew it couldn't entirely cover the much stronger scents omegas had while in season, but it would still help. After all, the last thing he needed was to give every unmated alpha in the vicinity the impression that he was hunting for a mate. The scent masker was a wordless signal that advances were not being welcomed. Of course not everyone respected such signals, but Shinichi wasn't too worried. There'd be a horde of police at the party after all. Only an idiot would try to take advantage of him there.

Satisfied with his own reasoning and preparations, he called a taxi (remembering at the last moment to request that his driver not be an unmated alpha).

Really, he mused as he watched the scenery roll by outside the taxi window, it was true that omegas had to be more careful and take some inconvenient precautions, but unmated alphas had it tough too since they could legally be barred from certain jobs, especially those in service industries where employees had to deal closely with large numbers of people on a daily basis. And of course both unmated alphas and unmated omegas were barred from working at middle and high schools where it was generally felt that "unwelcome incidents" were too likely to occur. The fact of the matter was that there were numerous positions that both alphas and omegas had to be properly mated to even be considered for.

Frankly, Shinichi had often wondered if it was that as opposed to some innate longing for true love that drove so many of his peers to devote so much energy to hunting for a mate. That wasn't to say that there weren't still plenty of alphas and omegas who were proud to be single, but they were often considered by others to be odd at best and downright scandalous at worst.

It all just went to prove again that betas had the best deal.

Speaking of mates, Shinichi took a moment to close his eyes and focus on that place in the back of his mind that was attuned to his bond with Kaito. He could sense that his alpha was intensely focused on whatever he was doing. Beneath that cold concentration was the buzzing, tightly controlled excitement that a major heist always inspired in his thief (and which had translated to many a heated night of passion. Just recalling those heated, post-heist sessions of lovemaking sent shudders of pleasure and want racing through Shinichi's body. He could remember all too vividly how Kaito had taken him right there in the art gallery where his last heist had taken place just a few weeks ago. Swallowing a whimper, Shinichi hastily pushed those thoughts out of his mind as best he could. In his current state, lingering too long on the memory of being pinned to the gallery wall, clinging to Kaito's shoulders as his thief pounded into him was going to cause him to go into heat early). The important thing was that Kaito was definitely too focused on his work right now to notice Shinichi's presence drawing closer.

Perfect.

Shinichi smiled to himself. He was going to go catch himself a thief!

A voice inside his head that sounded an awful lot like Sonoko giggled madly. The more normal, rational bit of his mind which had been relegated to a back corner for the time being slapped a metaphorical hand over his eyes and groaned. He really hated hormones.

The taxi dropped him off in front of the new arts center. He was only one of a stream of guests disembarking before the great, sparkling fountain that stood before the center's impressive front doors. Solar lamps encircled both the fountain and the plaza in which it sat, their light catching and refracting in the water so that the place looked almost magical in the gradually darkening evening.

Off to the left and right, paths also lined with solar lamps led to an expansive garden on one side and an outdoor dining area complete with outdoor stage for performances on the other. Straight ahead, the arts center itself stood tall, all glass and metal stone.

The Suzukis sure had outdone themselves, Shinichi thought with bemused wonder, shaking his head. It was no wonder the place was getting so much attention. Shinichi knew for a fact that the place already had a full schedule of performances by various musicians, dancers, acting troupes, and other performances set for after this official grand opening. Ironically, Kaito was one of those aforementioned performers. As such, he had already gotten a grand tour of the facilities. Naturally, he had helped himself to a little more of a tour than he'd been offered, but the magician was nothing if not opportunistic.

Circling wide around a group of people in fancy dress taking pictures with the fountain, Shinichi made his way up to the center's front doors. There, a woman in a center staff uniform offered him a friendly smile and asked to see his invitation. He handed it over and waited as she scanned it with a handheld scanner. Having confirmed that the invitation was authentic, she waved him inside and wished him a good evening.

Inside, more uniformed staff members—some of whom Shinichi recognized as KID Task Force police officers disguised as staff—were directing guests along an elegant hall and into an enormous, brightly lit showroom already buzzing with activity.

Large, glass display cases and open display stands stood scattered about the room, each sporting some sample of innovative modern artwork. The twelve largest displays showcased pairs of male and female mannequins dressed in the latest fashions ranging from formal to casual to festive with a focus on brands that had been making strides in the development of sustainable, eco-friendly fashions. Every mannequin had a corresponding live model dressed in the same outfit out wandering amongst the guests, chatting and basically enjoying the party along with everyone else as they showed off their outfits. At the center of the show room, a large, wooden chest sat on a circular dais. It had, its plaque announced, been hand-carved for the express purpose of serving as the art center's time capsule. It was a truly masterful piece of woodwork, and it was earning many admiring looks despite being currently empty.

Interspersed among the displays were round tables offering a variety of snacks and beverages.

Shinichi's stomach growled unhappily, reminding him that he had been too annoyed with Kaito earlier in the day to eat much. Since fainting from hunger would rather defeat the point of coming to the heist, Shinichi spent the next twenty minutes or so helping himself to a variety of finger foods and treats ranging from miniature sandwiches and spring rolls to fruit skewers and bite-sized cakes. Maybe it was because he was hungry, but it was all delicious, and he wasn't at all surprised to spot Mouri Kogoro picking up third and fourth helpings of everything while an extremely embarrassed and exasperated Ran tried and failed to remind him to control himself.

Shinichi briefly considered going over to say hello to the two Mouris, but he thought better of it. Yes, it would be the polite thing to do, and he certainly would have done so at any other time, but Ran had known him long enough and well enough that she would know he was only a day or two away from going into heat even if she didn't smell it through the scent masker he was wearing. And that in itself was a big if. Being a beta, Ran didn't have the high sensitivity to the ways alpha and omega scents changed throughout their cycles, but, again, she knew Shinichi well enough that that didn't matter. She would know. And then Ran, who had never quite gotten over her tendency to mother him while he'd been Conan, would insist on calling Kaito and taking him home. Then when she couldn't reach Kaito, things would begin to get complicated.

Ran could be every bit as overprotective as Kaito on his worst days when given the incentive, and Shinichi had no desire to be caught in the middle of such a clash.

Spying a table dispensing three special blends of coffee, Shinichi made a beeline to the table and couldn't resist trying a little of each blend before selecting his favorite and filling his cup to the brim. He spent a happy few minutes communing with the rich, aromatic brew before casting an eye at the ornate clock on the wall. There was still nearly an hour to go before the heist was set to begin.

Well, might as well look around.

Spotting what appeared to be a bank of plush armchairs, a curious Shinichi wandered over for a closer look. He found that each armchair was equipped with its own little swivel screen and set of earphones so that a guest could pick and listen to songs from the collection that had been assembled to represent this current age of music. The various CDs from which the songs had been chosen would be going into the time capsule as well and were currently being shown in a long display case situated across from the armchairs.

To ensure that everyone could have a turn with the music if they wanted, guests were asked to listen to no more than three songs at a time before giving someone else a turn. Since the line was currently fairly short, Shinichi decided it would be a good way to wile away some time. It would also give him a few minutes to unwind.

As an accomplished phantom thief as well as a successful magician, Kuroba Kaito had honed many skills over the years, not the least of which was that of improvisation. Though he prided himself on his plans and ability to stay ten steps ahead, he was experienced and intelligent enough to know that no plan ever unfolded entirely as planned. Therefore, a forward thinking person made backup plans, but he also learned to adapt. This was especially true when you were dealing with one Kudo Shinichi.

In all his years, Kaito had never met another person who could keep up with his intellect the way Shinichi could. They were like the two sides of a coin, both intelligent and stubborn yet knowledgeable and flexible enough to overcome barriers others might consider insurmountable. Really, it was that incredible intellect that had first drawn him to Shinichi all the way back when they'd first met. Of course, those big blue eyes and long legs didn't hurt, but he was getting sidetracked wasn't he?

The point of the matter was that Shinichi had always been rather good at throwing a wrench into Kaito's plans. And normally, Kaito found the challenge to be thrilling.

But today… Today was a different story.

He got his first whiff of Shinichi's presence at the arts center while he was chatting with a couple of other guests about the winning photographs in a recent photography contest. And when he said whiff, he meant literally.

It was the barest hint of a scent—so faint that he wondered for a moment if he had imagined it, but even that brief whiff was enough to have all his senses snapping into focus and honing in. He caught himself breaking off in mid conversation and turning his head to sniff the air, searching for that oh so enticing and ever so familiar scent.

"Is something wrong?" one of the people he had been talking to asked, clearly puzzled by his abrupt distraction.

Cursing inwardly, Kaito pulled a sheepish smile onto his face. "I'm fine. Sorry. I just thought I heard someone calling me, but I guess it was just my imagination."

His audience bought the explanation without much fuss and dove right back into their earlier discussion. Kaito was extremely grateful for this because he had caught that scent again, and now he was certain that it was not a figment of his imagination.

Not sure whether to be exasperated or totally freak out (what was Shinichi thinking, coming to a crowded party at a time like this?! Didn't he realize how reckless that was?!), Kaito lifted his glass to his lips on the pretense of drinking to give himself some time to scan the crowds.

He located Shinichi's distinctive cowlick bobbing around the table where the coffee was being served—which did not surprise him one bit. Judging from the blissful expression on his omega's face, this party had to have damned good coffee. Kaito made a mental note to check what kind of coffee it was so he could find it for Shinichi later.

His gaze followed the detective across the showroom floor. Indigo eyes narrowed when he noticed some of the party guests turning as the detective passed to watch him. Some of them had probably simply recognized Japan's most famous detective, but a few of them were definitely looking at his detective with too much interest for Kaito's liking. Swallowing a rising growl, Kaito reminded himself that he was still undercover, and nothing was likely to happen to his mate in the middle of a crowded gallery.

Realizing abruptly that Shinichi was walking straight towards him, Kaito turned away and pretended to be admiring one of the framed photo prints on the wall next to him. He knew when Shinichi drew near and passed him when his beloved's scent wafted over him (that scent masker Shinichi was using was not working at all!). He stiffened both figuratively and literally. It was all he could do not to reach out. And suddenly he was very glad that the model he had chosen to knock out and replace had been showing a long, stylish coat because said coat was helping him hide his growing arousal.

Since he and Shinichi had bonded officially, the scent of other omegas, even those in heat who weren't bothering to mask their scents, had stopped affecting Kaito. It was one of the advantages of being properly mated. On the other hand, he had become even more attuned to Shinichi's scent.

Kaito held his breath and counted very slowly to ten, ruthlessly squashing the mental images of Shinichi gasping and writhing under him that kept surfacing in his mind. Later, he told himself firmly. He still had a heist to finish.

Feeling that he had gotten his thoughts if not his hormones under control, Kaito allowed himself another look in Shinichi's direction. The detective had apparently discovered the music showcase and was taking a turn listening to the selection. Good. That should keep his trouble-magnet of an omega safely occupied for at least the next ten minutes while Kaito double checked the rest of his traps and tricks.

Shinichi let out a regretful sigh as the last of his three chosen songs drew to an end. Removing his earphones, he stood up and stretched. Now, where to next?

Come to think of it, he hadn't actually gone to look at the pendant that was the cause of all his grief—er, the star of this night's heist.

It wasn't difficult to locate the display in question. It was one of the few displays in the showroom tonight that was fully encased in glass. It was also sporting a rotating guard of police officers in various disguises ranging from uniformed staff members to guests in fancy dress. It was clear that the police were making an effort to blend in, but Shinichi rather thought that the looks of extreme suspicion that the disguised officers shot at anyone and everyone who got within ten feet of the heist target defeated the point.

Well, it certainly was a big diamond, Shinichi thought critically as he peered through the glass at the pendant. The specially commissioned setting for the stone was also fairly pretty, although Shinichi couldn't for the life of him have said how it was supposed to represent the modern age. The plaque on the display case probably explained exactly how at great lengths, but Shinichi wasn't currently in the mood to read it. Instead, he caught himself scowling at the large and very sparkly stone. It was just a rock. A shiny, very expensive rock, sure, but still… How could something so silly be stealing his mate?!

Okay, this was ridiculous, he told himself firmly. Even if he was feeling a bit off kilter, he was not going to stoop to being jealous of a bit of carbon. It was stupid and supremely undignified.

He gave the diamond one last glare for good measure and turned away.

Distracted by his own thoughts, he walked smack into the person who had been standing behind him. He let out a grunt of surprise and stumbled back a step.

"Sorry," he said quickly.

"It's all right," the man he'd run into assured him, double checking the glass of wine he'd been carrying to make sure it hadn't spilled. Seeing that it hadn't, he flashed Shinichi a smile. "No harm done."

Shinichi moved to walk past the stranger, but the man reached out and caught his arm before he could do so.

"Wait," he said when Shinichi turned startled eyes on him. "I was just wondering, are you Kudo Shinichi?"

"I am," Shinichi replied. He gave his arm a light tug and was relieved when the stranger let go.

"I thought so," the man said, beaming and proffering his hand instead. "I've seen you in the news. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Itsuki Kanjirou. I'm with the Maitoki Studio marketing team."

Shinichi shook the proffered hand. "Your studio has work in the exhibit," he noted.

"We do," Itsuki confirmed, gesturing to the bank of armchairs with their attached earphones. "Have you listened to any of them? We have some truly amazing new artists."

Though he rather wanted to keep looking around, Shinichi couldn't find a good way to extract himself from the conversation without being extremely rude. So he decided to humor the man for a while. Besides, Itsuki was so enthusiastic about the music being produced by his studio that it was difficult not to get excited right along with him. Music was, after all, an art form Shinichi too appreciated. They were actually having quite a nice discussion about musical trends when Shinichi suddenly realized that his new acquaintance was standing far too close to him for comfort.

He frowned.

Apparently misinterpreting his sudden discomfort, Itsuki put a hand on his arm. "Perhaps we should find somewhere to sit down. I saw a lounge area just outside the gallery. Or perhaps," he went on in a much lower and distinctly suggestive voice. "We should find somewhere more private?"

Okay, Shinichi thought. It was definitely time to go. He silently kicked himself for not noticing the man's scent. The alpha wasn't even wearing a scent masker. He was noticing now though, both because the alpha was invading his personal space and because he could smell the man's interest.

Shinichi debated how to excuse himself tactfully but subtle relationship stuff had never been his forte. Besides, it was probably best to be direct anyway.

"I already have a mate," he said bluntly, pointedly extracting his arm from the other's grip.

"Really." There was an amused disbelief in the alpha's voice that kind of annoyed Shinichi. "They must not be very attentive then."

Shinichi bristled, his currently abnormally volatile temper flaring. How dare this basic stranger criticize his Kaito when they'd never even met?! The rational part of Shinichi's mind that had already been forced into the corner numerous times that day reminded him that it really didn't matter what this basically stranger said or thought about anyone (so long as he didn't turn out to be a murderer anyway. Hell, Itsuki didn't even know he was talking about Kaito. It wasn't like his and Shinichi's relationship was public knowledge. Though the media had speculated plenty about him and his potential relationships, Shinichi had always been clear in stating that he believed he didn't need a mate to be happy. He had never rescinded the statement after getting together with Kaito because, well, he still believed that omegas could lead perfectly happy lives without a mate. The fact that he had fallen in love after all hadn't changed that fundamental belief—but he was getting sidetracked, wasn't he? The fact of the matter was that he had never publicly announced that he had a mate, let alone who it was. While Kaito had announced that he was mated, he'd never said who his mate was either, preferring to tease the public with the secret until he was certain that Shinichi was ready for the attention). The rest of him was very offended on his alpha's behalf. Shinichi might be slightly annoyed at Kaito himself right now, but that was his business. His mate was perfect (except when he wasn't, but that wasn't the point).

Shinichi opened his mouth to bring the sharp edge of his tongue to bear on the presumptuous alpha and say some things he would probably regret later once he had his senses back, but, fortunately, they were interrupted.

"Kudo-san?"

Shinichi and Itsuki both turned to find one Hakuba Saguru frowning at them.

"Nakamori-keibu didn't mention you were here," the blonde told him then glanced at Itsuki. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but the heist will be starting soon, and I have a few things I would like to go over with Kudo-san before that."

Itsuki frowned, and Shinichi thought for a moment that he might object, but then he shrugged and waved them away. "I wouldn't want to interfere with police business. It's a shame we didn't have more time," he added, flashing Shinichi a smile that put the omega's hackles up all over again. "Perhaps another time."

"Not likely," Shinichi grumbled under his breath as the man moved away.

Hakuba raised an eyebrow at him. "Not a friend, I take it?"

"No. We just met."

The blonde opened his mouth, paused, sniffed, then frowned as he apparently took note of Shinichi's scent. As a beta like Ran, he too wasn't as sensitive to scents, but he did have a nose, and he could recognize the changes in the younger detective's scent even through the scent masker. He also knew what it meant. The knowledge had him frowning.

"He wasn't bothering you, was he?" Implied in the question was a secondary inquiry as to whether Shinichi wanted to report the man.

Shinichi drew in a deep breath then let it out in a sigh. "No, not really. He was just trying his luck. I was about to send him packing."

"No doubt," Hakuba said a touch wryly. He had witnessed Shinichi's sharp tongue at work at cases on more than one occasion. "I must admit to being surprised though. I would have expected Kuroba to be glued to your side at a time like this."

"He had other stuff to do tonight, so I came without him," Shinichi said a bit vaguely.

The blonde's eyebrows shot up. "You expect me to believe he let you out of the house without him?"

Shinichi scowled. "I don't need his permission," he snapped. "I'm not a child, and I'm not helpless."

Hakuba held his hands up hastily in a placating manner. "I'm sorry. I did not mean to imply that you were helpless. I am well aware that you are not. I was merely expressing my surprise. We both know how protective he is when it comes to you." For good reason, the blonde privately thought. He'd never met anyone as prone to running into trouble as Kudo Shinichi. In just barely over two decades of life, the omega detective had solved more cases than your average police officer even heard about in his entire career. And Hakuba was smart enough to realize that, considering Shinichi's track record, he had probably solved more cases than had been reported. In fact, the immense number of crimes that Shinichi ran into in the course of his daily life was so crazy high that, if he didn't know better, Hakuba could almost believe those ridiculous rumors about curses and bad luck. He didn't believe it, of course, but still. The fact that he would even entertain the idea for more than fifteen and a half seconds said a lot about his fellow detective's trouble-magnet tendencies. Sometimes it just seemed like Shinichi had some unfortunate, supernatural ability to attract crimes and criminals.

That thought had Hakuba making a mental note to keep an eye on that Itsuki fellow Shinichi had been talking to. Just in case.

Unaware of the other detective's thoughts, Shinichi merely sniffed. "I don't have to stay home just because Kaito told me to. Anyway, I want to go take a look at the surveillance room."

"I shall accompany you," Hakuba said immediately. As a colleague and a friend, he felt duty-bound not to let Shinichi wander around unsupervised while in such a delicate state. Besides, it was starting to sound as though Shinichi had come to the heist without Kuroba's knowledge. If that were the case, Hakuba might be able to use the fact of Shinichi's presence to get a rise out of KID, which could potentially lead to some tangible evidence that Kuroba was KID.

Shinichi shot him suspicious look. "I don't need a chaperon."

"Of course not," the blonde said hastily. "Remember, I too am here for the heist. It would be beneficial for us to put our heads together."

On the inside, Shinichi pouted. He technically didn't want to get overly involved with the police side of the heist because he was here for, ah, personal business, but he couldn't exactly turn Hakuba away without raising the blonde's suspicions either. So, resigned, he relented. He'd just have to figure out a good excuse for shaking off Hakuba before the heist officially began.

Kaito ran through his Poker Face exercises for the thirteenth time that night as he fought the urge to growl. He had finished checking all his tricks in record time because he didn't want to leave Shinichi unsupervised for too long only to return to find some strange alpha trying to make a move on his detective. He could sense Shinichi's discomfort, and it made his hackles rise. Then, before Kaito could blow his cover by marching over there to put the bastard in his place, who had stepped in but Hakuba? On the one hand, it was technically a good thing that Hakuba had gotten rid of the interloper and that Kaito hadn't blown his disguise, but it irked the magician to have to be grateful to that blond nuisance for anything. He also had to remind himself several times that one, Hakuba was a beta and wouldn't be affected by Shinichi's pre-heat scent and two, even if Hakuba was interested in Shinichi, he knew that Kaito and Shinichi were mated, and, nuisance or not, the blonde was too prim and proper to make a move on someone else's mate. Besides, Hakuba and Aoko were, as far as Kaito was aware, still happily dating.

He also reminded himself that Shinichi would most certainly banish him to the couch should he maim or otherwise harm Hakuba just because he found the sight of the blonde being chummy with his Shin-chan to be highly irritating on a personal level.

Grudgingly admitting that Shinichi was probably safe from unwanted attentions in Hakuba's company, Kaito turned his attention back to his heist with a vow to get the whole damned thing over with as soon as possible so he could drag his stubborn omega home, where they were going to have a very long talk about the difference between being stubborn and being stupid.

Shinichi was beginning to feel rather annoyed with Hakuba. This was rather unusual for him. Unlike people like Kaito and Hattori, who both found the blond intolerable, Shinichi normally found Hakuba's company to be relatively enjoyable. Yes, the blonde could be a bit pompous at times, but he was a decent detective and a fellow Sherlock Holmes enthusiast. The two of them had spent many pleasant hours discussing (or fangirling over, as Hattori called it—much to Shinichi's chagrin) the Holmes mysteries. In fact, Shinichi fully intended to accept Hakuba's offer to go tour all the Holmes-related sites in London together one of these days (although he had yet to find a good way to broach the idea to Kaito because Shinichi didn't want to be responsible, however indirectly, for something horrible happening to Hakuba).

Right now, however, Shinichi just wished that Hakuba would leave him alone. But the blonde was showing no signs of doing so. He had accompanied Shinichi not only to view the surveillance room but also all around the building and back to the party. His presence made it so that Shinichi couldn't look as closely at some places as he wanted to lest he inadvertently give away something about Kaito's plans that he didn't want to let slip.

"Is Aoko-san here too?" Shinichi tried asking, fishing for some way to get rid of the other detective.

"She wanted to come, but, unfortunately, she was unable to make it," Hakuba replied. "A friend of hers recently suffered a loss in the family, so Aoko is spending a few days with her."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Shinichi said, growing subdued. Death and the wounds it could leave was something with which he was far too familiar.

Hakuba merely nodded solemnly and changed the subject. "Tell me, did you have any thoughts on what KID might have planned?"

"Considering the size of the audience, probably something flashy," Shinichi replied with a shrug. He wondered somewhat grumpily if the large audience was also one reason his magician had abandoned him for the night. The stupid thief did so love the spotlight. Throw in the challenge from Jirokichi, the media coverage of the event, the whole 'great art and artists of the modern era' theme and no wonder Kaito couldn't resist making an appearance. "Showoff."

"What was that?" Hakuba asked, not having quite caught the shorter detective's final grumbles.

"Nothing," Shinichi said quickly. "It's almost time. Did you want to go check in with Nakamori-keibu?"

"He'll be at the jewel display," Hakuba noted. "We can join him, but it may be less, ah, dangerous if we choose somewhere a little off the center of the target area."

"Did you have a spot in mind?" asked Shinichi.

Hakuba swept his gaze around the showroom. His gaze lingered on the air vents and studied each doorway and window. Shinichi waited patiently. Once Hakuba had picked a spot, Shinichi could pick a different one out of his line of sight that would allow him to slip away unnoticed. He had to get away before the start of the heist if he were to get where he wanted to go in time without getting tripped up by police. He didn't have Kaito's ability to move like a ghost through crowded halls. To his irritation, Hakuba seemed intent on taking his time choosing a location.

"He'll head up," the blonde said matter-of-factly. "He wouldn't get far on foot tonight. We're fingerprinting and checking all officers at the doors, and guests were forewarned that they and their belongings will be searched upon exit."

"And the Suzukis certainly didn't skimp on the cameras," Shinichi noted. "Inside or out."

Hakuba flashed him a smile. "Indeed. Leaving by air would be much simpler. Considering he must be in a hurry if he believes you're at home…" He let the statement hang with a pointed look at Shinichi.

Having expected the probe, the blue-eyed detective kept his face neutral. "I'd assume KID of all people would have planned at least enough not to have to be in a hurry."

"When things go as he plans," Hakuba replied, slanting another look at Shinichi. "By the way, you mentioned earlier that Kuroba had plans tonight. Might I inquire as to what sort?"

Shinichi was tempted to just say no, but he knew Hakuba wouldn't let it go at that. He had to give the blond something solid enough to chew on but that would still hopefully discourage further discussion.

…Where was Kaito when you needed him? Lies were his forte. Shinichi had always been better with the truth. His years as Conan had, however, forced him to hone his creative lying skills whether he wanted to or not, and he had learned a thing or two.

"His mom wanted his help with something," Shinichi said.

Hakuba blinked, clearly taken aback, and Shinichi gave himself a mental pat on the back. An urgent call from his mother would certainly get Kaito out of the house at pretty much any time. The line was both believable and unexpected enough to throw Hakuba off. Of course, there were flaws in the lie. If Chikage really did have an urgent problem she needed Kaito for, Shinichi would certainly insist on going with the magician to help in whatever way he could. Yes, Kaito would likely have wanted him to stay home due to his condition in that situation as well, but, if Shinichi had opted to ignore him, he wouldn't have done so to attend some frivolous party, heist or no heist. But Hakuba didn't know that. And of course there was the general expectation that omegas nearing heat tended to grow irritable and less rational. Shinichi might hate how people let that inconvenient bit of biological whatnot fly as an excuse, but he would grudgingly admit that it occasionally came in handy.

With only two minutes left to the start of the heist and Hakuba still showing no signs of picking a location though, Shinichi decided it was time for a different tactic.

"I'm going to swing by the restroom real fast," he said. "I'll be right back."

"Actually, I could use the facilities myself. I'll go with you."

Oh my god, he's following me, Shinichi thought, annoyed. He had the sudden suspicion that the other detective wanted to see how Kaitou KID would react upon seeing Shinichi at the heist in his current state. Well, bugger that. Time for drastic measures.

"Do you know where the restrooms are?" he asked as they exited the main showroom to find a deserted lounge. No one wanted to miss whatever show the master magician thief had planned.

Hakuba stepped past him. "It's this way. We should hurry."

Indeed they should. The instant the blonde's back was to him, Shinichi swiftly swung his arm up, popped the lid on his watch, and darted Hakuba in the back of the neck. Then he shut the watch with the same quick gesture and leapt forward to catch and guide the collapsing detective onto a plushy lounge sofa. After all, he didn't want Hakuba hurting himself or being trampled later by stampeding policemen. Shinichi would feel terribly guilty if that happened even if the blonde had been being every bit the nuisance Kaito liked to say he was.

The lights winked out.

Flicking on his watch light, Shinichi chanced a peek back inside the showroom and was momentarily arrested by the sight that greeted his eyes.

The mannequins had started to dance. Two by two, each pair of mannequins was performing a different type of dance under their own private spotlight. Their dances had clearly been chosen based on their different outfits. Though the sight of those faceless, wooden dummies dancing away was ever so slightly creepy, it was also incredible and certainly fun. Throughout the room, people were whipping out phones and video recorders to capture the scene.

Smiling to himself, Shinichi turned and hurried away.

-0-

Kaito cursed vehemently in his head, though he kept his Poker Face smirk plastered to his face.

Shinichi's sent was everywhere, and it was slowly driving him nuts. His mate must have spent all evening visiting every dratted corner of the building!

Having a raging hard-on while you were in the midst of evading police and pulling complex magic tricks made everything twice as difficult as it had any right to be—not to mention ever so slightly embarrassing. He had to employ every trick he knew and several more that he invented on the spot to hide the obvious bulge in his pants. This led to several unnecessarily close calls when he had been forced to prioritize dignity over speed. It was ludicrous!

Even pressed for time as he was though, he couldn't resist taking a few seconds when he spotted Hakuba snoring on a lounge sofa to draw a mustache on the blonde's face. He considered dying the detective's hair too but decided to spare him in the end since he had technically helped Shinichi out.

His dear omega was probably the reason Hakuba was asleep, he mused. Shinichi must have gotten tired of being chaperoned. But Kaito hadn't seen him at all since the heist had begun despite the fact that his scent was everywhere, teasing. Had Shinichi ditched his tail to meet Kaito? The thought sent another wave of arousal pulsing through the thief, and he cursed, forcing it away. It was definitely too much to hope that his mate had gone home.

Of course, there was always the possibility that Shinichi had run into some trouble. There had, so far, been no outcries about the discovery of any dead bodies in the building, but, around Shinichi, all that meant was that no bodies had yet been found. It was entirely possible that his trouble-magnet of a mate had run into a corpse while poking that cute but stubborn nose of his around the building only to be caught by the corpse's creator before he could make a fuss. In fact, that scenario would be just like him—so much so that Kaito spent a good half minute reminding himself that the building was crawling with policemen. Besides, he didn't sense any distress from Shinichi through their mating bond. That also ruled out the equally horrifying possibility that some other alpha might have tried to use the general hubbub and confusion of the heist to take Shinichi unawares and drag him off into some dark corner to take advantage of him. Even imagining such a thing made Kaito's blood boil and a snarl rise in his throat. Only he was allowed to touch his Shinichi, at a heist or otherwise.

He pushed those thoughts away too as being just as distracting as the others. What he needed now was speed and stealth.

He knew that hits Task Force and probably everyone else besides was expecting him to leave by the roof. It was a splendid roof for launching a glider from, and the winds that night were also ideal. But since Kaito knew that they knew all this, he had made other plans.

He had set several dummies on gliders off in different directions to fool those temper-blinded police officers and give anyone watching from outside a good show. But for himself, he had found an office on an upper floor of the building with a large window that would, as it turned out, be facing the full moon that night.

It was perfect. Since his omega would be going into heat tomorrow, he would need to stay at Shinichi's side. That being said, his best course of action would be to check the jewel tonight then drop it straight back into its security box the moment the police cleared out to go chasing fake leads. Then he could leave quite peacefully along with the finally released guests, none of whom, himself included, would be found to be carrying the stolen jewel.

Wanting to get the jewel-checking part of the ordeal over with as quickly as possible so he could go hunt down his wayward omega, Kaito slipped into the recently refurbished office of the hotel's head honcho. He'd half expected to be ambushed by Shinichi then and there. His mate's scent certainly informed him that Shinichi had visited this room as well in his wanderings. But there did not appear to be anyone in the office.

Letting out a breath that might have been disappointment or might have been irritation, Kaito crossed the room in two quick strides and threw open the curtains, already raising the jeweled pendant to the light.

It was because he was distracted and already hyped up on Shinichi's pheromones that he didn't pull away in time when the curtain to his right shifted and a hand shot out, snapping a handcuff around his right wrist. Indigo eyes narrowed as he lowered the jewel (already determined to not be Pandora) and looked to the other end of the handcuffs which was snugly closed around Shinichi's left wrist.

Shinichi grinned up at him. "I think I've caught a thief."

Indigo eyes darkened as the shark's grin on KID's face widened a fraction. "Meitantei-san, I feel obligated to inform you that you are gravely mistaken."

In one swift move, he pocketed the jewel and jerked Shinichi towards him using their linked hands. With the detective off balance, Kaito pivoted and began backing Shinichi up with quick steps until Shinichi's back hit the closed office door. At the same time, the thief slipped out of the cuff that had been on his wrist and snapped it around Shinichi's free one, leaving the detective the only one cuffed. Then he casually pushed the short chain between those cuffs up and hooked it over one of the high coat hooks on the back of the door.

Thus rather abruptly immobilized, Shinichi nearly squeaked when a gloved hand landed hard against the door right beside his head, hemming him in.

And there he was.

The Kaitou KID in all his glory, backed by moonlight and wrapped in shadows broken only by the gleam of a monocle and a grin.

Looking up at him, Shinichi felt a moment of déjà vu as his mind flew back to that first face-to-face encounter on the hotel rooftop when he had seen the thief descending, silent and pale like the ghost they called him, from the dark night sky.

That aura of overwhelming confidence and that all-knowing grin that had said KID knew it all but his secrets were his to keep—that instant had been burned into Shinichi's mind that night and stayed with him all the years since. It was, he later realized, the moment he had started to fall in love.

He's the one, a little voice in the back of his mind had told him. It had felt as though all his life up to that point had been leading him to that one moment—that single encounter.

"It is I who have caught a detective."

With Kaito leaning over him, one hand braced on the door by Shinichi's head and the other gripping his hip, Shinichi was trapped. The knowledge sent a wave of heat rolling through his body, and he shuddered, knees going abruptly weak. It didn't help at all that he could smell that Kaito was aroused.

"Tell me," the thief growled, leaning in so that his nose was all but touching Shinichi's. "Is there some law of the universe that says that detectives must always go looking for trouble?"

Pressed so close together, Shinichi couldn't just smell Kaito's arousal. He could feel it—an obvious bulge in the magician thief's white slacks that was pressing up against him. A sudden, intense heat spiked in his abdomen. It was followed by a wave of intense heat and desire that rolled through his body and pooled between his legs. He could feel something slithering down his thighs inside his pants, and he realized with a gulp that his body was going into heat early and, it seemed to him, with a vengeance. It was his alpha's close proximity and obvious arousal, he thought through another dizzying wave of heat and lust that had him panting and barely able to stand. It was only Kaito's body pressed flush against him, pinning him to the door, that was keeping him upright.

"Well?" Kaito prompted, and Shinichi blinked. It was with a great effort that the detective managed to think beyond his overwhelming need for Kaito.

"I… I wasn't looking for trouble," he managed to protest between panting breaths. "I…just wanted to find you."

Kaito made a noise that was half frustrated growl and half exasperated laugh. "I can't decide if I'm supposed to be rewarding you or punishing you."

Shinichi shivered, and he thought dizzily that he really didn't care what Kaito wanted to do to him so long as it involved getting his alpha's cock inside him. It was all he could think about. He wondered briefly if there was something wrong with him then decided he didn't care right now. He felt as though he had never been so aroused in his life.

One of Kaito's hands moved to cup him through his pants, and he gasped, hips bucking involuntarily. Kaito let out a low growl and wedged one knee between Shinichi's legs to keep him pinned in place as he stripped off his gloves.

"Do you have any idea," he growled low into Shinichi's ear, now bare hands moving to unzip Shinichi's pants and push them along with his undergarments off his hips. "What it was like trying to dodge Nakamori and his pack of idiots when all I could think about was bending you over a chair and ramming myself into that hot little hole of yours until you begged for mercy?"

Shinichi blushed even as he felt his body throb with excitement at the image Kaito had painted. His shoes tumbled away somewhere when his alpha kicked them aside. Even so, he managed a smirk of his own as he peered up through his lashes at his alpha.

"You'd be in for a long wait," he declared, wrapping one now bare leg around Kaito's still-clothed hip to draw him closer. The feel of rough cloth against sensitive skin made Shinichi gasp and moan as his entire body shuddered with renewed pleasure.

That was the last straw for Kaito, who had already been hanging onto his Poker Face with his teeth by that point. He could hear his self control snapping like bowstrings being cut.

Surging forward, he hooked a hand under one of Shinichi's warm, bare thighs to hike it up further and give himself better access as the thief's other hand moved to shove three fingers into Shinichi's already dripping wet hole. It was clear that his mate was already more than eager for him. His fingers sank into that slick, tight heat with barely any resistance. And the feel of those hot, tight muscles squirming about his fingers as he thrust them in deep, twisting pressing and stretching, prying apart Shinichi's sensitive walls to prepare his over eager omega for more.

Kaito's other hand made short work of freeing his own erection from the confines of his pants. He didn't bother with much more than that though as he had already gone far beyond the limits of his patience. He wanted Shinichi, and he wanted him now.

Shinichi squirmed and mewled as those fingers worked their magic inside him even as Kaito's other hand on his hip held him still. He wanted more, but the feel of those fingers inside him was making his entire body tingle with pleasure and want.

Each touch sent a jolt of pleasure tingling through every nerve in his body, but then those fingers were gone, and something much bigger was touching his entrance. It pressed past the well-stretched ring of muscle and eased into him. The intrusion was large and hot and hard, and it pulsed as it sank deep into his body, stretching and filling him utterly.

A breathless moan escaped Shinichi's lips as his head fell back against the door. He was fully impaled on his lover's length, and it was ecstasy. His inner omega purred, and he wrapped his legs more firmly around his thief's waist.

Kaito's teeth sank into the soft skin at the junction where his detective's neck met his shoulders, and Shinichi gasped, bucking under him. The movement sent a jolt of pleasure through them both.

Making a noise that was half moan of pleasure, half hungry growl, Kaito tightened his grip on Shinichi's hips. Pushing the detective higher up against the door, he pulled himself partway out of his Shin-chan's delicious heat then thrust back in again hard and fast. Shinichi's gasp became a sharp cry, and Kaito hastily covered his omega's mouth with his own to stifle the sound.

Once he started moving, Kaito found he couldn't stop. The taste of Shinichi's lips and the feel of his omega's body arching against him were intoxicating. He had been fantasizing about this all evening—of plunging deep into Shinichi's tight, velvet heat to fill his mate with his essence. Now that he was here, he just couldn't get enough. Not, he reflected, that he could ever have enough of his dear, beloved detective.

He wanted to hear Shinichi's cries for him, but he knew that it would be unwise. Even though he had arranged his tricks so that the police would be led away from this part of the building, there was always the chance that someone might wander by. If they heard something suspicious, a locked door wouldn't stop the police from barging in on them. No, Kaito didn't want that. So he contented himself with plundering Shinichi's mouth as he continued to pound into the detective's rapidly constricting passage.

Overwhelmed by the stimulation, Shinichi came hard. The intense surge of pleasure had Shinichi swallowing a scream as he arched against the door, mind going momentarily blank.

As Shinichi's inner muscles constricted, Kaito thrust himself all the way back into his omega and released himself.

When Shinichi came to, still panting for breath and shuddering with pleasure, it was to the realization that he was no longer pinned to the door. Sometime while he had been lost in his orgasm-induced daze, Kaito had moved the two of them to the room's large, plush office chair. He was now sitting straddling Kaito's lap, legs thrown haphazardly over the arms of the chair and still impaled on his lover's length. His arms, no longer bound, were draped loosely around Kaito's neck as he rested against the thief's chest. He could feel his lover's hands still resting on his hips, holding him in place even as the magician's thumbs smoothed over the jut of his hip bones in an almost soothing gesture.

He could also feel a hot mouth was sucking at a sensitive spot on the side of his neck in a way that was definitely going to leave an extremely prominent hickey. Letting out a contented purr, he tilted his head to give Kaito better access. The thief made a noise of approval and scraped his teeth over sensitive skin. Shinichi gasped and jerked. The arms of the chair kept his legs spread wide, but his inner muscles clenched. Kaito pulled him closer in response, fingers digging into Shinichi's bare hips.

"Kai," Shinichi whimpered. He could feel Kaito's member swelling to full arousal again right there inside him. A quiet moan escaped his lips as his inner muscles spasmed around that delightful intrusion. His entire body seemed to pulse with the need to please his alpha. His hips bucked against Kaito's hold of their own accord, but the thief's grip tightened, keeping him still.

Letting out a frustrated little whine, he looked up to find Kaito gazing past him, indigo eyes pensive. Before he could ask the magician what he was thinking about, Kaito had stood up, dislodging a startled Shinichi from his lap. The omega let out an involuntary whimper of protest as his mate slid out of him.

He wobbled as Kaito set him on his feet.

"Kai? What—" he started to ask, but Kaito had already turned him around and given him a gentle but firm nudge towards the office's enormous, elegant wood desk.

"Bend over and spread your legs," the thief ordered.

The note of command in his alpha's voice had Shinichi's body moving eagerly to obey even before the words had fully registered in his mind. He blinked at the desk's polished surface, blushed, and glanced back over his shoulder to find Kaito already right behind him.

The window behind the thief glowed with moonlight, casting his face in shadows. One indigo eye glittered with predatory intent. That look sent a pulse of heat rolling through Shinichi's body, and he gasped as slick gushed down his inner thighs.

The thief chuckled. "Eager, aren't you? That's good. I'm nowhere near done with you yet."

His words alone, uttered in those dark, velvet tones, all mystery and promise, sent shivers of excitement up the detective's spine.

There was a gleam of teeth as Kaito smirked, pressing the tip of his erection into Shinichi's twitching entrance. In one slow thrust, he sheathed himself once more in Shinichi's tight heat. The detective gasped, pressing his forehead against his folded arms. He could feel every inch of his alpha's large cock as it entered him, stretching and filling him once again just the way Shinichi liked it.

Kaito leaned over him, pressing an open-mouthed kiss to his shoulder before trailing his tongue up the curve of Shinichi's neck to nip at his ear. One of his hands slid around to wrap itself around the detective's shaft, giving it a firm stroke. Shinichi's breath hitched, and he tightened convulsively around his alpha's cock. Kaito hummed in approval and repeated the gesture, lips curling into a wicked smirk.

"You know," he murmured. "Old Jirokichi had this desk specially imported all the way from Europe. It arrived just a few days ago, and they only finished furnishing this office this morning. So we're the first people ever who're getting to use it. I wonder what the old man would think of that."

Shinichi turned bright red at the thought of Sonoko's uncle ever finding out any such thing, but he also couldn't suppress a snort of laughter. "He'd be livid."

Kaito smirked. "My thoughts exactly."

And Kaito began to thrust. Each push and pull was slow and deep. He wanted Shinichi to feel him—to feel every hot, pulsing inch of his desire as it was pushed into Shinichi's eager body.

The detective pressed his forehead against his folded arms as he panted for breath between stifled moans. The achingly slow pace was both torturous and wonderful. In and out, in and out—deep, full thrusts that sent waves of pleasure all the way to the tips of his fingers and toes.

"K—Kai," he moaned, eyes closed and breaths coming in fast, shallow gasps. "M—more—!"

"Now, now," Kaito purred low into his ear as he made another slow thrust, making sure to push himself as deep into his detective as he could go. "What are you supposed to say when you want something?"

Shinichi moaned again, louder this time, as he squirmed under his magician. His muscles spasmed around Kaito's length.

Another thrust, and Shinichi mewled.

"P—please—!"

The desperate little plea went straight to Kaito's already achingly hard member. His thrusts became faster, rougher, and Shinichi bit down on his lip to keep from crying out.

His hands scrabbled across the polished expanse of the desk before latching onto a random edge as his hips bucked to meet Kaito's thrusts. The feel of his alpha's cock driving into him hard and fast, again and again and again had Shinichi's head spinning and every nerve in his body pulsing with pleasure and want. He didn't want the moment to end, but though he struggled to hang on as long as he could, the rhythm and the intensity of the sensations coursing through him soon grew to be more than he could bear. He came hard, slapping a hand over his own mouth to stifle the scream of his thief's name that he couldn't hold back. He nearly came again when he felt Kaito's heated essence spurting inside him, filling him completely and seeping from his stretched hole to trickle down his thighs.

Kaito continued to thrust shallowly until he had completely emptied himself into Shinichi's warm, pliant body. Then he collapsed on top of the exhausted detective. They simply lay there draped over the desk for several minutes, catching their breaths. Eventually, however, Kaito straightened and pulled gently out of his now docile lover. Shinichi whined, and the thief chuckled.

"I think we should continue this at home, don't you?" he asked. "Of course, if you want to do it in a study when we get home, I'd be more than happy to oblige."

Shinichi blushed, mortified, and grumbled something incoherent that probably translated to "shut up". He slid off the table and nearly fell when his legs immediately gave out on him. White-clad arms caught him before he hit the ground though. The next thing he knew, he had been scooped up and deposited back in the plush office chair.

"Just sit tight while I clean up," Kaito told him, dropping a quick kiss on his nose. "We wouldn't want to leave any evidence behind, eh?"

"You should have thought of that before you jumped me," said Shinichi.

Kaito quirked an eyebrow at him. "Who jumped who exactly? If you'll recall, I told you to stay home."

Since he couldn't exactly deny that, Shinichi pretended he hadn't heard.

Though his little rendezvous with Shinichi had thrown his plans for a loop, Kaito managed to get the jewel back into its case but temporarily hidden from sight as he'd planned. Sneaking the both of them out unnoticed was a little more difficult but nothing the great Kaitou KID couldn't handle. The most difficult part of the entire endeavor was getting his Shin-chan's scent properly masked.

Shinichi wrinkled his nose and shoved the bottle of scent masker away as his alpha moved to spray him again. "Stop that! I already smell like I took a bath in that stuff. Just because you can smell me through it doesn't mean anyone else can."

But they eventually made it home, at which point Shinichi made a beeline for the shower, determined to rid himself of the overwhelming dose of scent masker that Kaito had drowned him with. Kaito followed him into the bathroom, professing a desire to help him clean off the irritating scent. Shinichi knew perfectly well that his alpha had ulterior motives, but he refrained from commenting. After all, he was kind of looking forward to it. Not that he was going to tell Kaito though. The magician thief's ego was big enough already.

Afterward, since neither of them was hungry after filling up on the many snacks at the party, Kaito made them both a mug of hot chocolate, and they cuddled together on the couch. They picked a movie they both liked to watch. Shinichi ended up on Kaito's lap halfway through the movie, and the magician's hands found their way under his shirt. They never saw the end of the movie.

-0-

Half draped over Kaito's strong, bare chest, listening to the magician's steady heartbeat, Shinichi let out a contented sigh. Kaito smoothed one calloused hand down the length of his spine then let it rest on the small of his back, smiling softly when his detective all but purred.

"Well, I'm certainly glad to see that you enjoyed yourself tonight," he said teasingly, mirth alighting in indigo eyes. "I, on the other hand, have never had such a difficult heist."

It took Shinichi a moment to understand what Kaito meant, but, when he did, he snickered. "It serves you right for trying to make me stay home."

"Am I going to have to tie you to my bed before I leave for heists in the future?"

Blushing bright red, Shinichi glared at the thief. "Don't even think about it."

"Is that interest I hear?"

"It most certainly is not!"

"I think someone's not being honest~." Rolling over to pin Shinichi under him, Kaito smirked wickedly down at the blushing detective. "Aren't detectives supposed to tell the truth? You like the idea. Admit it."

"I do not!" Shinichi's protest ended in a squeak when Kaito abruptly pushed three long fingers past his over-stimulated entrance. The detective's hips bucked instinctively and a warm wetness gushed over the thief's fingers.

"You see?" Kaito teased. "Thinking about it's already got you all excited again."

Shinichi spluttered. "You idiot! I'm in heat. It's got nothing to do with your perverted fantasies."

"And everything to do with yours~."

"Unlike you, I don't have perverted fantasies," Shinichi objected only to cut himself off with a gasp as Kaito's fingers crooked, pressing hard into that spot that sent a jolt of pleasure through the detective's body and sparks dancing before his eyes. Another crook, another press, and he mewled.

Kaito smirked down at him. "You keep telling yourself that. But~ " Removing his fingers, he pressed his erect cock against then into Shinichi's hole. One long thrust had him once again fully sheathed inside the omega detective's sensitive body. Shinichi couldn't hold back an involuntary moan of pleasure, and Kaito's smirk grew. "We both know this is what you were looking for when you came to my heist."

Shinichi was rather glad that his alpha didn't give him any time to respond because he wouldn't have known what to say, and he'd rather eat his shoes than admit out loud that Kaito might be right about that.

-The End-
