Disclamer, I do not own Harry Potter, do I look like JKR, if I do get glasses and go to an eye doctor. I would recommend stories in the collection Lets do the time warp again.
"Hi." said Harry's father, James Potter. At first Harry was speechless, he never thought he could meet his father, but he managed to get out a weak "Hello."
"So, who's your mom?" James asked almost immediately, in a clever way of asking "Who do I marry". Remus voiced what Harry was thinking.
"Is that all you care about Prongs." Remus looked amused, but also somewhat stressed as well. "And if you remember, we're not supposed to ask Dumbledore questions.
"No, Moony, but still, and when have we ever listened to Dumbledore." James said uncomfortably. Upon closer inspection, Remus did seem a bit off, and Harry wondered if it was near full moon.
"Hello." said Sirius. Harry was so glad to see his godfather alive and well, and was overwhelmed with joy to be able to talk with him again. But he knew he had to keep the joy to himself or something would seem off. He barely managed to suppress his smile.
"Hi." Harry responded excitedly. He then saw Lily pass by chatting with who he thought was Alice Longbottom, or Alice whatever her maiden name was. James was staring at Lily for about a dozen seconds before Sirius broke the sudden silence by saying.
"So Prongs Jr did you know that James over here fancies Lily."
"Maybe, and since when am I Prong Jr, and is that all you guys ever talk about?" Harry asked.
"Well you look like James so, and yes, about right." Sirius answered. Harry turned to look at Peter but it seemed like he had already finished eating and left. 'That murdering traitor.' He thought. Sirius and James took him to the Gryffindor common room through a shortcut. They also kept on trying to get information of the future from Harry. First Harry simply said "No" or "Sorry I can't tell you" or "It might affect the future, sorry" but Harry slowly started getting more and more annoyed before yelling "I-Am-Not-Giving-You-Any-Infor-Ma-Tion!". Secretly though, Harry wanted to relieve himself of the information but couldn't, he might change the future.
Just to annoy him, James said "So, just wondering, what is my profession." He had a mischievous grin on his face.
"I told you, I can't tell you." Harry said warningly. After that Remus forced Sirius and James to shut up, and they spent the rest of their time playing wizard chess, which Remus was uncannily good at. Remus apparently had bought a set with almost all of his remaining money.
"How do you do that?" James asked after Remus beat him for the forty-fifth time in a row.
"I concentrate." Remus answered smugly.
"Yeah but I have superior talent"
"But I concentrate"
"But I have superior talent"
"And yet I concentrate"
"Well, I think it's time we introduce Harry to the art of pranking, but first, we should prank him." Sirius said, abruptly cutting across them.
"But first, Harry needs to be subdued." James continued. Harry secretly drew out his wand before Sirius yelled "Expelliarmus!" Harry dodged and said "Stupefy!" weakly, pointing his wand at Sirius. he didn't want to hurt Sirius but did want to subdue him in turn. The spell hit Sirius in the stomach, sending him backwards and he landed with a thud on a sofa across the common room. People were watching. Harry felt shy with all the people staring at him, even though he was used to it.
'Oh come on even twenty years in the past I can't avoid all these stares' Harry thought with a small laugh.
James then sent an impediment jinx, which Harry deftly blocked with a shield charm and Harry sent a few minor jinxes, all of which were blocked or dodged, but this gave Harry time, and he said "Petrificus Totalus!" James's hands and feet snapped together and he fell, stiff as a board.
"Well good job future Potter." Lily said from across the room, regarding him carefully, as if he was a particularly thorny bush.
"Thanks." He said. He wanted to make a deep conversation with his mom, but couldn't, it would raise too much suspicion.
"And I'm Lily Evans by the way." She said, offering her hand, though she had a slight scowl on her face when she was looking at Harry. Harry supposed that this was because he looked so much like James and she disliked James. He could however sense the internal argument in her. It was weird that his mom was debating about whether he was worth meeting. 'Well he's not James.' A voice in her head said, as another one said 'But he is James's son, and he is probably like James.' The voices in her head argued for a few seconds before Harry broke the silence, taking her hand with a "Nice to meet you". Harry then remembered the scene in Snape's pensive, and wondered how long until it happened in real life.
"I'm not James you know." Harry said, almost as if he read his mother's mind.
"I guess so." She said in a small voice, before walking off into the girls dormitory with Alice and somebody else. It was wonder Alice looked so much like Neville, they could pass off as twins. he watched her receding back before muttering the counter-curse for James and saying "Enervate." to Sirius.
"How did you do that?" Sirius asked, astonished.
"It's called skills." He answered smugly. Then they went to the boy's dormitory. And Harry let out a sigh as he looked out of the window, he had a lot he wanted to but couldn't tell. He saw that an extra bed had been put up for him. He jumped onto the bed and tried to go off to sleep but he couldn't. His mind was not able to take in that he had just time traveled twenty years and a few months, and was seeing and talking to his dead parents. His thoughts kept on swirling inside his head. Was this truly real? He was just about to sleep after an hour before Sirius jumped on him, saying "Look at that!", pointing to a figure on the grounds.
Thanks to all who made this a favorite R&R.
