This is my first fanfic on this website! Let me know what you think!
It had been 10 months since McGarrett left Hawaii to take a well deserved break. He hadn't told anyone he had come back to the island. Steve thought about telling Danny but he didn't want to be picked up from the airport. Instead, he took a cab back. He started walking up the drive when the front door to his house opened up revealing Danny eating a malasada.
"Hey! Who's that ugly man walking up to me?"
Steve laughed. "Hey Danny!" He dropped his bags and gave Danny a hug.
"Its good to see you brother." Danny said as he picked the bags up from the cement.
"Hey, you don't have to carry my bags. I can do it." He said reaching for them but Danny swatted his hand away and walked toward the front door.
"I got it. Plus, you are probably tired."
Steve walked in the house behind Danny as he put the bags beside the couch. "So uh, what are you doing here anyway?" Danny left the room for a moment before coming back with two bottles of beer and handing one to Steve. "Mahalo." Steve said.
"I'm here because I was looking after your house while you were gone. See how nice it looks?" Danny said, walking around the living room trying to prove a point.
"Very nice. Looks very nice Danny."
Danny sat down in front of Steve. "Okay. So, tell me about your trip. Get married while you were gone?"
Steve smiled. "No. I didn't. But I did meet a friend along the way."
"Oh really? Do I know this friend?"
"Maybe."
"Okay. So, are you going to tell me anything you did throughout the 10 months, eleven days, thirteen hours you were gone?"
"That's classified." He said smiling.
"No its not you big goof. Did you get a chance to clear your head?"
Steve sighed. "Yeah. I did what I love to do."
"Oh, so you found trouble?"
He shook his head. "No. Or the first few months, I enjoyed the alone time I was getting. Met up with a friend. I tried to get my mind off everything that went down with mom, dad and Joe. I only took a few months off before I went back into action."
"What? What are you talking about? Back into action?"
Steve sighed. "Yeah. The last five months, I was on recon missions with the Navy. That was the only way I could get away from my thoughts."
"Wait, wait...I don't understand. I thought you wanted some time off."
"I did Danny. Five months I had to myself. And I needed that. But I also needed to do something. I couldn't just sit at a beach sipping Margaritas all day."
"You could've! Instead you continued to put your life in danger? Why am I not surprised?"
Wo Fat had escaped out of prison. It hadn't been televised by the news media just yet. He had sent someone to follow McGarrett and to keep a close eye on him.
Three hours had passed.
Danny's phone rang and he looked at the caller ID.
"Its Tani. I'll put it on speaker." He put the phone on speaker. "Hey Tani! Guess who's home?"
"Steve McGarrett!"
"Hey Tani. Good to hear your voice. What's up?"
"Have you seen the news?"
" No. Why?"
"Turn it on."
Steve reached for his television remote and pressed the power button. The first thing he saw was the news caption.
DANGEROUS CONVICT WO FAT ESCAPES FROM HALAWA
Steve and Danny were both speechless. Then, Steve let out a sigh. "I should have seen this coming."
"Tani, when did he escape?" Danny asked.
"Four hours ago."
"Jesus." Steve whispered.
"Steve, we need to get a protective detail over here right now." Danny said.
"What good is that going to do Danny? Besides, he doesn't know I'm back on the island."
"Are you 100% sure boss?" He heard Tani ask. "When exactly did you get here on the island?"
Steve looked at his watch. "Four hours ago."
"That can't be a coincidence Steve. Someone on the outside gave him information. You know what you need to do."
"I can take care of myself Danny. I escaped him on multiple occasions."
"Need I remind you that you were tortured by this lunatic? And you didn't escape last time! You were rescued!"
"Okay fine Danny. Do whatever you need to do. Get HPD down here. Stay at my house for all I care!"
"Why are you yelling at me?"
"Because your yelling at me!"
"Boys!" Tani yelled through the phone. "You can argue later. Right now, we have more important things to do right now!"
