I don't usually write for this fandom but I just came back from Collegiate Week and wanted to write something. Not sure if the show will get to this point but wanted to try my hand at it. If you have been following my BATB story, I haven't abandoned it and will try to update soon.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Chosen series and highly recommend that you read the Bible and see if you agree. Mainly going to adapt John ch 21 but will reference Matthew 10:33, 26:69-75, and Luke 5:1-11.
The fire crackled in the early morning light.
Well we've come full circle, eh Simon. An empty net, the only thing to show after a night of fishing. A man on the shore telling you to cast out one more time. A miraculous catch.
The fire seemed to glow brighter as memories of that night came forth. How could he? How could he have betrayed Him so. The one who saved him when his attempts of fixing it himself had landed him in deeper trouble. And how did he repay Him? By running away like a coward.
The fire burns as voices ring in his head.
"Whoever denies me before men, I will also deny before my Father."
"You will deny me three times before the rooster crows."
"May God strike me down if I'm lying, I do not know this man!"
A rooster can be heard crowing in the distance.
"Simon son of Jonah," A gentle voice interrupts his thoughts.
"Yes Master." He turns and answers.
"Do you love me?" He asks
"Yes my Lord." Do you really? A cold voice whispers that sends shivers through his spine.
"Tend to my lambs." Wait what? He must have misheard. Jesus steps closer.
" Simon son of Jonah do you love me?" He asks again with the all knowing look in his eyes.
"Yes Lord." And yet you deny and abandon him when things get tough. The voice is back even stronger
"Shepherd my sheep." He steps even closer, puts His hands on Simon's shoulders and asks once more "Simon son of Jonah do you love me?"
"Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you!" Simon cried out, finally realizing what He was doing and hardly believing it.
"Then tend my sheep and follow me," He said and wrapped Simon in a embrace and silenced the voice inside his head.
