CHAPTER THREE
It was late when Sam and Dean returned to the bunker.
"Cas? Doucheangel?" Dean called.
Sam shot him a look. He raised an eyebrow when no answer came.
"Guess they're out," he shrugged.
It wasn't unusual behavior for Gabriel. It was a little odd for Castiel, as the taller angel was known for popping in before Dean could even finish saying his name. Dean threw his bag over his shoulder.
"Yeah, well they'll show up eventually."
Sam nodded in agreement. "I'm going to put my stuff away. Meet you in the kitchen?"
"Sounds good, Sammy."
The boys split in the hallway to go to their separate rooms. Sam sighed as he threw his bag at the foot of the bed.
"It's good to be home," Sam muttered.
Whoosh.
Frowning, Sam turned at the sound. A clearly pissed off archangel stood in the doorway. His eyes flashed blue. He stalked slowly but purposefully towards Sam. Sam put his hands up in front of him as he backed away.
"Uh, Gabriel, this probably isn't a good time," Sam was cut short when the back of his knees hit the bed.
With a sharp finger jab to his chest, Sam fell back onto the bed. Gabriel opened his mouth and proceeded to poke Sam in the chest repeatedly.
"You. Don't. Ever. Do that. To me. Again."
Sam smacked his hand away and rubbed the aching spot over his chest.
"Gabriel, I—Mmph."
Fed up with the swirling emotions he had built up over the last few days, Gabriel surged forward. He grabbed the sides of Sam's face and yanked him forward. Sam's mouth fell open to the onslaught of a very determined archangel. Sam had kissed women and an occasional man here and there, but this was something else.
Gabriel didn't ask for pleasure. He gave it and gave it good. Sam had frankly never liked French kissing. The few times he had tried it, he felt it was like something slimy crawling around in his mouth. With Gabriel, it was a whole different experience.
Sam groaned as fingers scraped over his scalp and drew him in deeper. Their tongues twisted and traded spaces between their mouths. It wasn't until Sam was getting dangerously lightheaded that Gabriel ended the kiss. Spots popped everywhere in Sam's vision. It took a couple of minutes of blinking and head shaking for them to clear.
"Uh…"
Gabriel snapped angrily in front of his face, causing Sam to flinch in surprise.
"Let's get one thing straight, Samshine. I can understand your brother running off. I can even tolerate Cassie disappearing, not that he ever does. But you will. Not. Do that. To me. Again."
Sam smacked his hand away again when he got another sharp prodding. Sam groaned. He could practically feel the bruise already pressing against his shirt. He shot Gabriel an annoyed look.
"You know what? I've already got the big brother schpiel from Dean and Bobby. I don't need another lecture, Gabriel," Sam told him.
"Well, now you're getting something else."
Sam's face scrunched up.
"What's that?"
Sam fell backwards with a muffled shout as Gabriel tackled him to the bed and reattached himself to Sam's lips. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Dean was having a conversation of his own with an angel.
"Sam's home, Cas. That's all you need to know," Dean insisted, leaning back in his chair.
Castiel tilted his head to the side. He sat across the table from Dean.
"Are you hiding something from me, Dean?" he inquired.
Dean raised an eyebrow.
"You don't need to know everything, Cas," Dean argued.
Castiel's eyebrows knit together.
"If Sam is in danger, Gabriel and I should know."
"He's not so as the song goes, let it go."
Dean pushed himself up from the table and went over to the fridge to raid around for a snack. Castiel wanted to push for more information, but he could tell Dean was closing the conversation. He chose to follow his advice and let it go.
At least for now, he thought.
Sam emerged from his room a little later with Gabriel in tow. Sam stopped short when Castiel stared at him and Gabriel. He felt like a bug under a microscope. It made his skin tingle.
"What?"
Castiel continued staring before finally saying, "It's nothing."
The brothers missed the look the archangel shared with Castiel. The brothers had a snack before retiring for the evening. While the hunters slept, the angels sat in the kitchen. Gabriel had a big bowl of ice cream in front of him while Castiel sat staring down at his hands.
"I am worried, Gabriel," Castiel said.
"Abo' wha'?" Gabriel asked with a mouthful of fudge.
Castiel frowned.
"Dean refused to speak about what happened with Sam. I don't know why he was gone or why you couldn't locate him," Castiel explained.
Gabriel put his spoon down and leaned back in his seat.
"Let it go, little bro. If Dean-o and Sammoose want to share, then they'll share. You know how stubborn they can be. Especially your Winchester."
Castiel's face morphed into a look of annoyance as he lifted his gaze.
"Dean is not my…" Castiel started.
"Really, Castiel?" Gabriel interrupted. "How many times do we have to go through this? Dean bears your mark. You pulled him out of Hell. He's your Other Half, Cassie. Time to face facts."
Castiel raised an eyebrow. He waited until Gabriel took in his next mouthful of ice cream.
"Like facing the fact that you and Sam were 'sucking face' earlier."
Gabriel choked. He coughed a few times while sliding his spoon back into his bowl. Once he regained his ability to speak, Gabriel chuckled.
"Being around the hunters has done wonders for that backbone, Cassie. Good for you."
Castiel flashed him a small smile.
"I do not believe Dean is aware of your relationship with Sam," Castiel reported.
Gabriel rolled his eyes with a snort.
"I'm not worried about big brother Dean-o finding out about what I do with Sammy boy," Gabriel smirked.
"You should be. Dean got a fresh supply of holy water last week and he does enjoy threatening to 'deep fry your wings' on a weekly basis."
Gabriel made an hmm sound in the back of his throat, but otherwise kept silent.
/…/
"The brothers are interesting."
Marbles woofed from his spot on the floor. Kalen chuckled.
"Yes, I know you think they stink. You know that's because of their angels. Frankly, I'm surprised you don't mind my 'stench.'"
Marbles made a whining sound that ended with a short woof. Kalen smiled as she tossed a treat to him.
"Well, thank you. That's nice of you to say. You're a good boy, Marbles."
The canine scrambled to his feet and trotted over to his companion. He jumped up to rest his upper body on her lap. The half angel smiled as she ran her hand over his head and scratched behind his ears.
"I'm glad I have you, Marbles. It does get awful lonely sometimes. I don't know if I'll ever a place I can call home," Kalen said, glancing around their hotel room.
Marbles whined at the back of his throat while pushing his head into her stomach.
"Okay, okay. Let's go get something to eat."
