CHAPTER TEN
"Yeah, I can pick up a few things after work. Text me the list, Dean. Okay. Hey, I got to get back to it." Eye roll. "I won't forget the pie, Dean. Bye."
Kalen sighed as she hung up the phone and laid it face down in her lap. She leaned back on the park bench. She heard a sound behind her but didn't bother even turning her head. A figure came around the bench to sit down beside her.
"The Winchesters don't suspect a thing," Kalen said.
Smile. "I didn't think they would."
She finally turned her head towards her guest.
"They offered me a home," she confessed.
"You're living with them? Good. Keep them close. An angel or two wouldn't hurt either."
Wink.
Kalen raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
Chuckle.
"Not all those you meet will want to be a friend. There are those who would seek to break or destroy. Even with the support of the King of Hell and an archangel."
Kalen shifted her gaze down as her cell phone was removed from her lap. She watched as it was flipped open and fiddled with. Once done, it was handed back to her and the figure stood up. She looked at it to see a new contact had been added. Kalen looked up with a quizzical look on her face.
"Should you need me."
Kalen chuckled.
"Couldn't I just pray?"
Snort. "Where's the fun in that?"
They started to leave when Kalen stood up.
"I only have one more question."
The figure turned to regard her.
"Was I…Was I a mistake? Was I meant to be born?" she asked.
He smiled and said no more before disappearing.
"Figures. Asshole."

When Kalen returned, she found the guys all sitting down to watch a game. Sam was sitting in an armchair with Gabriel perched on the armrest. He was having a lively conversation with Dean who sat on the end of the couch closest to him. Marbles lay on the ground with head resting on Dean's socked feet.
Kalen accepted a small pat on the back from Castiel as she down beside him. She smiled when she saw Dean squeeze Castiel's knee to acknowledge his presence. She pulled her headphones out and plugged them into her phone. She put the earbud in the opposite ear from Castiel.
Kalen listened to her music as she stared at her adopted family.
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
