A new project of mine.
Somewhere in the Black Mesa labs:
Heavy footsteps echoed throughout the hallway as a green bolt of electricity hit a figure wearing a orange reactive armor suit.. A loud shotgun blast was heard as the figure killed the vortigaunt. This figure is Gordon Freeman, our beloved mute protagonist. He was on his way to the Lambda labs, one of the scientists back at the questionable ethics labs told him if he "stayed out of sight and listened to him, you may just live to see the Lambda labs", and now Freeman is close to his goal to reaching the Lambda labs and end the alien invasion.
Warning, minor burns detected, automatic medical systems engaged. Freeman's HEV suit did what it does best: keep its user as healthy as possible. He winced as he felt a needle inject painkillers into his vein, though the pain from the vortigaunt's attack subsided. Sighing, he climbed up a ladder knowing it'd take forever for the lift to come down.
Freeman reached the top and kept walking, before being met with the sight of dead alien grunts along with two ceiling turrets aiming at him. Well, they were aiming but they haven't opened fire? Freeman wondered why. His question was answered as the turrets went back into the ceiling and the scientist opened the gate to let him in.
"Doctor Freeman.. you've finally found us!". Freeman stared at him. "Come in Doctor Freeman, we've been expecting you." Freeman accepts the scientist's invite and walks in. "You must have had quite the adventure reaching us." Freeman just nodded. "Not much of a talker I see, well, the other scientists did say you were a quiet but reliable one." Freeman nodded and smiled. "Hey buddy, if you manage to make it back alive from Xen, I'll buy you a beer." a security guard promised Freeman. Freeman nodded in thanks.
"Now then, onto business, as you may know, we've detected a reading in the border world showing an immense portal over there. We have reason to believe it's being kept open by a powerful being." the scientist explained the situation.
"I hate to say this Doctor Freeman, but you must go to Xen and kill it." Freeman stared in disbelief, how was he supposed to kill a being that is singlehandedly keeping a massive portal connecting Earth to Xen open?
"We know it's a huge decision but please, think it through Doctor Freeman, you know as much about these creatures as anyone. If you do decide to do this, Jason over here will supply you with the proper armaments for the journey." Freeman looked at the security guard now known as Jason.
"Even if you don't decide to do this, the whole world will be taken over by the aliens, if you're gonna die, then you may as well die trying to stop the invasion." Jason said. Freeman turned to look at a first aid and HEV charging station. "Ah yes, feel free to use those Doctor Freeman." Freeman nodded in thanks and walked over to the stations to recharge his suit and health.
After that was done, Freeman walked back to the scientist. "Well, Doctor Freeman, have you made your decision?" Freeman nodded.
"Excellent, my colleague is waiting at the portal controls, he will open the gates for you. Good luck Doctor Freeman." Freeman nodded and walked to Jason.
"So, you're actually gonna do this huh?. Heh, you're braver than you look." Jason pressed a button and Freeman is met with the sight of ammo for his weapons.
"This here is my personal collection, the best military hardware on the labs. Have at it, just promise me you'll put them to good use." Freeman nodded in thanks and picked up the ammo for his weapons.
After he was done gearing up, he nodded in thanks to Jason. "Doctor Freeman, I've one final accoutrement for you." a female scientist said. Freeman wondered what it was and walked over to her.
"This is the long jump module, made for use in the world beyond." She pressed a button and a robotic arm grabbed said module and put it in Freeman's reach. Freeman picked it up and put it on.
"Now I do hope you've received long jump training, because once you're in Xen, you WILL need it." Freeman nodded in thanks and looked back at the crew. "Good luck out there buddy." Jason wished Freeman the best. "We await your safe return." a scientist said. Freeman smiled and walked into the decontamination chamber, with the gate closing behind him.
Waiting for the machine to do its decontamination process didn't take long and Freeman was walking down to the portal machine. He was amazed at the size of it, it was almost as big as the Anti-mass spectrometer.
"Hello Freeman! I'm up here!" Freeman looked for the source of the voice and found a scientist wearing goggles waving at him from a catwalk.
"I can open the portal now, practice your long jump if you must but hurry up! Once I have begun I must not be interrupted or I'll have to start all over again." Freeman nodded.
"Ready? I will begin." the scientist walked into the portal controls and begun the process of opening a portal to Xen.
The portal machine whined into life and begun drawing power from the base to sustain itself. It wasn't long before Xen's minions teleported into the room to stop Freeman's advancement to Xen. A few alien grunts and vortigaunts opened fire on Freeman, who then retaliated by firing an RPG where they were huddled in a group, blowing them up to bits and pieces. Warning, internal bleeding detected. Warning, minor burns detected. Automatic medical systems engaged. Freeman's HEV suit did its thing and he felt a lot better afterwards.
"Hold on for just a bit longer Doctor Freeman! I'm almost done!" Freeman grunted and equipped himself with the tau cannon and aimed it at an alien controller which was trying to kill him. He overloaded the prototype weapon just a little bit before letting go of the trigger which made the weapon shoot a white-hot beam at the controller's head, popping it like a melon. Freeman checked his health and found it to be at 85% and his suit was at 78%. Darn, hopefully there were first aid kits and suit batteries scattered throughout Xen.
"It's ready! You must go! Now!" Freeman didn't need to be told twice and rushed to the portal, though he failed to look back to see a controller make a last effort to stop him by firing an energy blast to where the scientist was manning the portal controls. The scientist was knocked out by the controls blowing up in front of him which prompted the portal to start malfunctioning the second Freeman jumped into it.
Meanwhile in another universe, in a convenience store in nighttime Japan, a teen named Subaru Natsuki is seen browsing through the items on the shelves.
"Hm, so this is where they suck you in." Subaru mutters as he reads a manga, then puts it back on the shelf. He winces in pain as a headache struck him by surprise, then thinks nothing of it as he puts the manga back on the shelf. He then turns his sight on the ramen noodle shelfa and walks over to it.
Subaru first picks up the Miso Natto ramen, then decides that the Tonkotsu Noodles are a better choice. He then walks over to the potato chips and picks up a large bag of chips. Content with his items, he walks over to the cashier to pay for his items.
"That'll be 363 yen." The cashier says.
Subaru takes out his wallet and opens it, looking for the cash to pay for his items.
"Oh, a grooved edge ten." Subaru mutters as he puts it back in his wallet. Then he finds the money to pay for his two items. Subaru is then seen walking out of the convenience store, ready to go home to keep living his shut-in life.
Without his knowledge, a dark, purple, shadowy hand appears and reality around Subaru morphs for a split second, though he doesn't notice it. He feels a wave of dizziness but thinks nothing of it, knowing that he has been holed up in his room gaming all day, of course his mind would be tired from staring at a screen for hours all day. Subaru rubs his eyes, trying to refresh his tired eyes, though that action cost him his normal everyday life...
...because when he opened his eyes, he found himself in the middle of a street, in what seemed to be a park in a medieval town. Subaru, confused if he's hallucinating, looks around and decides this looks and feels too real to be a hallucination.
"This stuff obviously isn't fake. Does this mean... does this mean... I've been summoned across the universe, into a parallel world!?" Subaru exclaims in disbelief as he comes to terms with his situation.
Calming down from his outburst, he lays his eyes upon a guy that seemed out of place as well, a guy wearing a orange reactive power armor with a crowbar in his hand, exploring his surroundings.
"Hey you, you've been summoned here as well?" Subaru asks Freeman.
Although, Freeman being a mute person, stares at Subaru, before nodding in agreement.
"So we're on the same boat as well huh? Well, what do you say we team up and figure out what's going on?" Subaru asks Gordon.
Freeman nods in agreement, having worked with scientists to solve difficult problems, and so, begins Subaru's and Freeman's adventure in another world!
So, I know I've reused HDN: Half-Life's first chapter because I felt it would be a good way to get Freeman into re:zero's world, anyway, hope you enjoyed this first chapter, folks!
