I guess this counts as chapter 2, I deleted the chapters and merged them all into one long as fuck chapter, so, enjoy this fic. This will be slowly updated, or until I don't have access to internet anymore, so, let's begin!
"You seem to be from Japanese descent.. good to know there's someone from my world here." Gordon spoke as he looked at Subaru.
"Yea, I don't know how we got here, surely there must be an explanation for this." Subaru dejectedly spoke, it's not every day that you're taken away from your everyday life just like that.
"Feel like looking around? There must be someone who knows what's going on, surely they wouldn't think it's weird seeing us appear out of nowhere?" Gordon asked as he looked at the crowd looking at him, more specifically, the HEV suit.
Checking his arsenal, Gordon was relieved to see that at least most of his weapons were still with him. The issue would be ammo and battery (for the HEV suit) conservation. Without those, he'd be defenseless. Unless this world has a way to replenish his supplies. (Use mana to power the HEV suit?)
Subaru agreed to look around, and so, they set off to walk around the medieval town. Discussing about how it looks from the Middle Ages, surprised at seeing gigantic lizards in place of horses in carriages. Gordon has seen some stuff back at Black Mesa, so demihumans didn't surprise him as much as headcrab zombies. He can still remember the victims begging for help as the headcrab forced them to kill anyone nearby. One shotgun to the head and the victims are put to rest.
They get cut off by a scream for help, and turn back to see a kid who tripped on the street, and a ground dragon is too close to stop in time. Subaru, still not coming to terms with the fact he got summoned to another world, thinks that this is all a video game and he is the main protagonist, so he performs dumb poses while declaring this is his moment where he produces his first magical action to save someone. Gordon thought about using the Long-Jump module to reach the kid and get him away, but he didn't need to as a nearby knight rushed in and grabbed the kid. The crowd cheering as the knight saves the day. Subaru sighed as he didn't need to do those poses after all.
"Seems like they've got some kind of police force here." Gordon said.
"Yea, I still find it hard to believe that we're really in another world." Subaru said.
"Believe me, I'm not supposed to be here, I don't know how the machine failed, but instead of the original destination I'm supposed to be in, I get sent here. Maybe there's something bigger to this than we thought." Gordon wondered.
"You mean there's other worlds out there?" Subaru asked.
"If you think Earth is the only world, you must be living under a rock." Gordon said.
They both turned to see a fruit stand, with fruits that looked similar to their world's fruits. The question is, will they accept whatever currency they happen to be carrying. Gordon was sure he had some spare quarters and a few $5 bills sitting in his pockets. While Subaru had some Japanese yen. But, only one way to find out and see if they can buy fruit from that store.
Subaru and Gordon walk up to the fruit stand, but are disappointed to see they can't read the language written on the wooden tablets. They knew for sure those were apples, bananas, pears, peaches that were sitting on the stand.
"Hey, you guys, those are some weird outfits. Are you guys traveling?"
"Yea, are those apples?" Gordon asked.
"I don't know what apples are, but these are appas." The shopkeeper said.
"Appas, they've got a different language here." Subaru said.
"At least we can communicate with them. Though we can't let our guards down just yet." Gordon said.
Subaru reached in his pockets, and pulled out the spare Japanese coins from his world, and showed them to the shopkeeper.
"Huh? What kind of money is that? You can't use that stuff here in Lugunica. That means you're flat broke, huh? Get outta here, don't interfere with my business!" The shopkeeper said as he angrily shoved Subaru away. Gordon, who had no problems killing people (he fought off the entire U.S Army hunting for him), materialized his trusty crowbar.
"If we were in our original world, I'd have reported you for assault now, consider yourself lucky, don't treat potential customers like that." Gordon said as he threatened the shopkeeper with his crowbar. The shopkeeper looked into Gordon's eyes, and saw the eyes of a murderer (Gordon did kill human and alien soldiers, as well as the Black Ops sent to Black Mesa to contain the situation once the U.S Army didn't do their jobs properly)
"No, it's okay, let's just leave him." Subaru said.
Later, they found themselves walking around, looking for any place to ask about their situation. They figured they'd introduce themselves, they know each other's names now. They walked in to what seemed to be an office, but after they went in, they were surprised to see it was a public restroom. Before the women had a chance to beat them to a pulp, Gordon thought quickly and blocked the incoming slap from a cat woman, and proceeded to grab Subaru and rush out of there, the women screaming behind them, declaring them perverts.
"Whew, that was a close one, thanks Freeman." Subaru thanked Gordon.
"They should have a sign that says it's a public restroom, how were we supposed to know it was a bathroom?" Gordon asked.
Subaru nodded, and proceeded to walk into another building. This one being a demihuman bar. The bartender looked at the duo, and told them this is a place for demihumans only. Subaru was processing this information, but a lizard demihuman opened the door behind him, shoving Subaru out of the way, blinding him temporarily. Gordon made sure that Subaru didn't hurt himself, so he propped him up against the wall and let him there to regain his senses.
Gordon was getting tired of the people here treating them like they're nothing. The lizard demihumans looked at Gordon, challenging him to try anything. Gordon materialized his gluon gun, wondering what the effects would be on lizard people. But, he didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble, so he half-heartedly apologized for barging in on them, and walked out of the bar. The lizard people's instincts told them this guy was really dangerous, but they didn't know what made him so dangerous.
Subaru and Gordon walked into an alley, deciding to take a rest here. Subaru put down his grocery bags, and dejectedly sat down on the steps. If Gordon knew his stuff, dark alleys are where the robbers hang out, so he kept his guard up. Meanwhile Subaru was throwing a tantrum about how he was supposed to be the protagonist, but then calmed down after a bit. Subaru pulled out his cell phone and was happy to see he still had some battery left, but saw that he didn't have a signal on his phone, meaning it was useless and put it back in his pocket.
Subaru looked at his grocery bag, seeing it as a wimpy starting gear, ranting about how he needed better gear to satisfy pressure-free kids like him. He then asked about the cute girl who summoned them, surely if they were summoned at the same time, there has to be someone who brought them to this world for some reason. Subaru was busy dejectedly ranting about the cute girl who summoned them, only to leave them alone. Gordon heard the footsteps coming closer to them, and faced the three thieves who were now looking at them like a predator would to a prey. Subaru also heard the footsteps, and happily looked up to see the cute girl who summoned them, only to see 3 lame guys.
"What the hell are you babbling about?"
"If you don't wanna get hurt, cough up whatever you've got!" The scrawny thief demanded.
"So you're here to steal from us, listen, son, you should just walk away and it'll be better for you." Gordon warned them.
"Who are you to tell us that!" The short thief yelled.
"Move it! Move it! Move it! You guys! Out of my way!" A girl yelled as she rushed towards them.
Subaru was happy to see an actual cute girl rushing towards them, he thought that this is the girl who summoned them to this world. The girl stopped after hearing Subaru's declarations, so she took the time to correct him that she didn't summon them, told them to live strong, and sped off to the city, the guys looking at her parkour skills.
Subaru meekly asked if the thieves were a bit less hostile towards them, the fat thief said that they felt a lot more bitter now that the moment got ruined. Subaru thought about calming himself down, remembering that it's the law that anyone who gets summoned to another world, it means they're the untouchable protagonists, so it means that these lowlife thieves are nothing, right?
The thieves didn't see Subaru ball his hands into fists, and were surprised to see Subaru fighting back against them, first punching the big thief in the face, then roundhouse kicking the short thief. Gordon wondered if his hand was broken from how hard he hit the fat guy in the face. Subaru was now aiming for the scrawny thief, only for him to pull out two knives from his back, scaring Subaru and having him kneel for forgiveness. The scrawny thief just kicked Subaru in the face, making him scream in pain.
The other thieves slowly got up, angry at the fact that this guy had the balls to fight back, they proceeded to beat Subaru to a pulp. Gordon thought that surely no one would care if he killed them, he looked around and saw no security cameras. So he materialized his Spas-12 shotgun, and aimed at the fat guy's head.
The fat thief felt immense terror, and looked at the barrel of Gordon's shotgun staring him in the face. Gordon was about to pull the trigger, ready to see the guy's head turn into the basic table of elements, until they heard another female voice telling them to stop.
"who the hell are you?"
"Stop now, and i'll let this slide. So just graciously return what you stole." The girl said.
"What we stole?"
"Now, please, it's important to me. I'll give up on the other stuff, but I can't let you have that. Be good and hand it over, please." The girl asked.
"You didn't come to save this kid?"
"What strange clothes he has... If you asked me if I had any connection to him, I'd have to say no."
"Then you've got no business with us! if someone stole from you, it was that brat who just ran by!"
"Yeah! That way! She ran that way!"
"Hmm... they don't seem to be lying.. I need to go after her!" The girl said as she rushed by the men, she then abruptly stopped, and looked back at them.
"But I can't overlook what's going on here." The girl said as she summoned ice magic, and hurled them towards the thieves, knocking them down.
Meanwhile Subaru noticed Gordon's shotgun, and was concerned about why he had a shotgun here. The thieves got up, and angrily said that they'd kill the girl, until she held out her hand, and brought forth a mini gray cat.
"You're a user of the spiritual arts?"
"Correct, back off now and I won't come after you. Decide quickly, I'm in a hurry." The girl said.
"You bitch! Next time I see you, I won't go easy on you!"
"Do anything to her, and I'll haunt you and your kin forever. Not that you'll have any kin if I do that." The gray cat spoke.
That was enough to scare the thieves, so they panicked, and ran away from the scene. Though they still felt Gordon's piercing gaze behind them.
"You saved us.. thanks." Subaru thanked the girl.
"Don't move." The girl demanded as she proceeded to look into his eyes, making Subaru blush and look away.
"See? You averted your eyes because you have a guilty conscience! Looks like my judgement was spot-on" The girl said.
"I think he's fallen in love with you, heh." Gordon laughed.
"What! No! You're wrong!" Subaru tried to deny the facts.
"Yea, I think it was just an instinctive male reaction. I didn't sense any malice at all." The cat said.
"You be quiet, Puck. You know who stole my insignia from me, don't you?"
"Uh, sorry, but I don't have any idea." Subaru uttered.
The girl intensely looked into his eyes again, before gasping and looking away.
"What? Wait, it can't be.. Did I really just come around the long way?"
"You should probably hurry after her, miss." Subaru said as he tried getting up, but due from his injuries, he passed out.
"Aw, you shouldn't have tried to get up. What should we do?"
"It's none of our business. He won't die, we'll just leave him."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
"You say that, but I bet you'll still help him."
"I will not!"
"Yea right."
"Absolutely not! I am not going to save him!"
Gordon thought he's seen everything now, a mini talking cat just casually floating in the air. Meanwhile Subaru who was somehow conscious, thought about how she is super cute when she's mad, then closed his eyes for a quick nap.
After the girl and the cat debated on what to do, Gordon saw the cat turn into what looked like someone wearing a fursuit, and proceeded to give Subaru a lap pillow. Gordon stood by just in case they tried anything. Later, Subaru woke up, and felt someone's lap under his head. He heard a girl asking him if he was awake, Subaru thought out loud about how he didn't know cute girls were so hairy, before remembering girls are NOT supposed to be so hairy. He turned his head to see Puck looking down at him.
"It's a thoughtful arrangement we made so you could at least feel happy until you woke up." Puck waved a paw at him.
Gordon thought that he looked like someone wearing a fursuit, but it's a real, talking cat that can change sizes at will.
"First of all, don't talk in that high voice! No sane guy confuses a cat for the main heroine!" Subaru shook his head.
"Aw, seeing you so happy was worth making myself bigger."
"I'm not happy!" Subaru yelled before he looked at the girl sternly looking at him.
"I'm sorry about this. You stayed with me the whole time I was unconscious... "
"Don't get the wrong idea. I had to stay because there are things I want to ask you. Healing your wounds and making Puck your pillow until you woke up were for my own benefit. So I need you to repay me in kind."
"For such a normal favor, you're making it sound like I really owe you big."
"No such thing. You have some idea who stole my insignia, right?" The girl said as she walked up to Subaru.
"Insignia? You mean one of those badge things that shows your affiliation?"
Now that Gordon thought about it, this girl looks like she's someone important, maybe a politician here in this world? At least the politicians here are cute girls instead of the grumpy old men back in his old world. He remembered he was still holding a shotgun, so he put it away, Puck raising a single eyebrow at Gordon's actions.
"It has a jewel in the center, and it's about this big."
"Sorry, but no matter how many times you ask, I have no idea."
"I see, No helping that, then. But you've given me the information that you know nothing, and you gave me my answer in exchange for healing you. Well, I'm in a hurry, so I'm going now. Your wounds should be better now, but next time, don't do dangerous things, like wandering into deserted alleys alone. I'm not concerned. I'm just warning you. If that happens to you again, saving you won't be of any benefit to me, so don't expect me to help." The girl finally stopped ranting, and walked away.
"Sorry about her, she's so insincere. Don't think badly of her." Subaru looked at the cat, then back at the girl walking away.
"Insincere? I think this goes beyond that. She was in such a hurry to find what was stolen from her. Yet she stopped to help me, and she even came up with that lame excuse for a favor so I wouldn't feel like I owed her, even though I'm a total stranger.. anyone who lives like that.. is gonna end up wasting their whole life!" Subaru said as he rushed to grab his jacket, and proceeded to rush after the girl.
Now that Gordon and Puck were alone, Puck sternly looked at Gordon.
"What was that that you just hid from us?"
"It's nothing for you to be concerned about."
"You're lying, what were you planning to do with that."
"Oh could you fucking quit it with the questions, I was going to deal with the thieves until you guys showed up, so now I don't need to get my hands dirty."
"Hmm.. this time you seem to be telling the truth... I'll trust you for now.. you must be that guy's friend, right?"
"In a way, yes."
"You have a strange set of armor there.. are you perhaps a knight?"
"No, I'm not a knight, this is more like a suit made to protect the user from hazards."
"Hm, we should probably catch up to them."
"Agreed."
Meanwhile with Subaru.
"Hey! Wait up!"
"What? Just so you know, I can only spend a little more time with you."
"I sense you're being a tiny bit lenient... forget that. You lost something important, right? Let me help you."
"But you said you don't know anything..."
"But I remember her face, at least! If I see her again, I'll know!"
"You're so strange... just so we're clear, I can't do anything to thank you."
"I don't need you to. I want to thank you, that's why I want to help."
"I didn't do anything deserving of thanks. I told you, I already received compensation for healing your wounds."
"Then... I'm going to help you for my own sake, too. My objective is... let's see... Yeah! One good deed per day!" Subaru held a finger out. Meanwhile, Puck and Gordon caught up to them.
"I don't sense any malice, I think you can just accept his offer. After all, the more shields between you and ruffians, the better. Although you should be careful with the other guy, I looked at him and saw the eyes of a murderer."
Hearing that, Subaru looked at Gordon, surprised to see this accusation.
"Freeman, did something happen in your world?" Subaru asked.
Puck and the girl looked at them like they were crazy, another world? What were they talking about.
"It's a really long story, but in short, I worked in a top-secret government base, and was involved in an experiment that went horribly wrong. So, to cut things short, aliens invaded my world, the military got involved and was killing everyone at the site, I killed a couple soldiers here and there, I was their top target, the black ops got involved when the situation escalated. I barely made it to the surviving laboratories where they had the machine that would fix everything, but it didn't work properly and it instead sent me here, and now here I am." Gordon finished telling his backstory.
Puck, Subaru, and the girl were looking at Gordon, Subaru thought that this story was crazy. Puck spoke up, and muttered that he was telling the truth, even if he didn't understand what he was talking about, or why he said that he was from another world.
"So this is why you had a shotgun, that's from your world, right? A way to defend yourself?" Subaru asked.
"Hm.. yea, it's part of my little arsenal that I gathered as time went by." Gordon said.
"Just how many weapons do you have?" Subaru muttered.
"Hm, if it was all in self-defense.. I suppose that can be forgiven, good job on surviving whatever went wrong." Puck said.
"Another world? What are you guys talking about?" the girl asked.
"Actually, don't worry about it, say, what about we help you look for the girl who stole your insignia?"
And that's a wrap! I got tired from writing so much, damn, who would have known that writing a fanfiction with its own plot would be tiring, anyway, until next time!
