Having been the Hero of the Wild's reincarnation, Young Link has been known to be a boy of purity, but not the kind of purity most expect if not all people. There was something about the child that gave people bad vibes. Sure, Young Link is a good-mannered and well-intentioned little boy, but if there's one thing that struck people the wrong way, it is the vibes people got when they first see him.
Young Link has an apathetic and intimidating approach to dealing with specific situations. For instance, whenever he gets threatened by another kid or even a vicious adult, he only responds with a lifeless expression on his face, not giving a moment's notice. This event could either scare the person away or resort to them attacking him. If the latter occurs, Young Link will use his small size to jump on a person's head and knock them out.
On the other hand of the spectrum, if Young Link meets people with good hearts, Young Link will apathetically respond with politeness to the good-natured people around him. Like how he finds a cat on the street and takes it to the owners or how he helps farmers grow plants if the situation tells him to do so. But rarely, if ever, do these two types of situations occur for him, as he spends most of his time taking strolls around the various neighborhoods around Hyrule Castle.
This mental environment is because Young Link doesn't have parents.
He doesn't know where his parents are or how they ended up. Because of their absence in his life, he felt human emotions don't apply to him like everyone else. And because of the mental environment he grew up in, people would ultimately get bad vibes around him. Starting with good people being afraid of him, but realizing Young Link is a good-natured person, while the dark side of Hyrule's people sees him as a monster inside a child's body.
But this young boy's life would change forever when he saw the Hyrule Sword Fighting Tournament.
The Hyrule Sword Fighting Tournament is where only the most talented and hardworking superstars arrive. The combat sport of swordsmanship tests up-and-coming superstars are participating in the tournament. The tournament hosts sword fights every day with no shortage of promotion or audience. The way it's like that is because popular swordsmen and swordswomen arrived in the tournament way before Young Link was even born. Those sworders are Groose and Urbosa.
Being interested, Young Link decided to have a look at the tournament. But he needed to sneak inside not to be seen, but someone was already waiting for him.
"Hey, kid..." Someone on Young Link's right spoke to him.
The child would turn around to see a 7'6" tall man walking over to him. With his apathetic expression, Young Link isn't horrified by the man's towering height. The man in question is a male Gerudo, a male version of the female race only appearing every 100 years, and that circumstance made him the Gerudo King. The man had a confident and somewhat inhuman smile on his face.
"Anything you need, sir?" Young Link asked nonchalantly.
"I can see how your body expresses your interest in the Hyrule Sword Tournament. But you are not fit to fight in it." The man spoke to Young Link in a dark and somewhat raspy voice.
"Sounds like you're a combatant there. Who are you?" Young Link raised an eyebrow.
"My name is Ganondorf. King of the Gerudo and former combatant of the Hyrule Sword Fighting Tournament. There's a lot of stuff that happened in my career, kid. For one thing, I have an undefeated record. Second of all, I held the longest-running career as a sword fighter before I had to retire because no more challengers dared to fight me. And third, I've committed so many injuries to my opponents that I was considered "The Demon of Hyrule Sword Fighting." The man explained his career.
"You were the best of the best, huh?" Young Link replied, not amused by Ganondorf's history as a combatant.
"Exactly. And I've been searching Hyrule and Termia for a while now, eager to find anyone that may be my star pupil. And I believe, child, that you are the one I'm looking for. And I can tell that your body is born to fight..." Ganondorf crouched down to Young Link's height.
"How do you know that?" Young Link asked, tilting his head.
"I can sense that hidden potential within you, kid... Power that has yet to be tapped into..." Ganondorf replied mysteriously, seeing a fire inside Young Link's eyes.
"There's one question I must ask of you, though... How old are you?" Ganondorf asked.
"Five..." Young Link replied apathetically.
"Five, huh? Well, that might be the best age for you to start training." Ganondorf's smile widened as he replied.
"How about I get the paperwork done and adopt you? You don't look like you have any parents." Ganondorf asked Young Like as he stood up.
"That is true... I don't have any parents. I don't know how you can father a child, though..." Young Link replied.
"Don't worry, kid. I don't plan on abusing you physically or mentally. I'll give you all the love and praise for a secretly-talented fighter like you..." Ganondorf grinned with dark pride as he walked away.
Young Link doesn't react to the way Ganondorf grinned at him. But he didn't sense any lying from the male Gerudo. Maybe it's his way of keeping his promise of adopting him. Not having much choice but to abide by his offer, Young Link ran to Ganondorf's side and walked over with him, with people staring at the former champion of the Hyrule Sword Fighting Tournament. Young Link knew he had to go through grueling and intense training to become a combatant of said tournament.
This is where the Former Champion of the Hyrule Sword Fighting Tournament adopts Young Link, and Ganondorf's legacy will continue in his name...
