Setting Prompt: Roommates
"Kudo-kun, Mouri-san, are you dating?"
Shinichi and Ran stared at their college classmate for a bit. "No," Shinichi finally said, albeit awkwardly. "We… are not dating."
"Are you sure?" He questioned, looking between the two of them with disbelief written all across his face.
"I'm pretty sure we both know our relationship status very well," Ran confirmed.
Their classmate nodded quickly, and then left.
"That was weird," Shinichi said, and Ran nodded in agreement.
A few days ago, a murder had occurred on campus, unsurprisingly. Shinichi's roommate was the victim (thankfully, he wasn't killed in his room). Ran's roommate got scared and ended up dropping out. Shinichi and Ran decided to share a room in the meantime, and after quite a lot of convincing, the school finally allowed them to do so. And that was when the rumors started.
Someone had apparently gotten the idea that Shinichi and Ran were involved, romantically. They then leaked the information to basically everyone else in the school, and now people kept asking. Frankly, Shinichi was tired of it.
"We need to find out who's spreading these rumors," he finally said after a bit of awkward silence.
"Ohhh… they make me so mad…" Ran growled frustrated, clenching her fist. Shinichi instinctively stepped away from her.
"Calm down," he suggested. When Ran glared at him, he quickly explained. "I have an idea of who it is. We just need to talk to her first."
And that was how they ended up in front of Sonoko's dorm.
Thankfully, Sonoko's roommate was not there currently, so Shinichi and Ran sat down. Sonoko leaned forward excitedly. "So? So? Finally going to admit it?"
"Sonoko…" Ran sighed. "We're not dating."
"Oh, you aren't going to admit it?" Sonoko sounded disappointed.
"We're not in a relationship at all," Shinichi replied.
Sonoko frowned. "But you guys-"
"We're just roommates," Ran said, giving a tight smile.
Sonoko stared at them and muttered, "That's what they all say."
Shinichi and Ran gave each other a side glance. It seemed that today, Sonoko would not be convinced.
