Din the Dancer
(Tangled: The Series - Opening Intro by Disney Channel Central on YouTube)
(Third-Person POV)
*It was a beautiful day. The sun shone over a peaceful village somewhere in the Hylian countryside*
?:*off-screen* Link! Link! Link, where are you?
*In the barn, a 12 year old boy with blonde hair, peach skin, blue eyes, & wearing a green cap with yellow trim, a green tunic over a brown shirt, a brown belt with a gold buckle, white tights, & brown boots was poking an egg. Just then, the egg started to crack*
Link: Oh! *a beak poked out of the shell* Wow! *then an eye was seen through the crack* Whoa! *then the chick came out of the shell* You've been born! *suddenly, a bucket hit his head* OW!
*A portly elderly man with gray hair entered the barn, looking angry*
Grandfather: Link! Answer when I call! Get outside for sword lessons!
Link: Owwwww! Geeze! *he held up the chick* Forget about that, Gramps! A baby chick was born! Isn't it cute?
Grandfather: Ahem! Link, that's not quite right. The chick wasn't "born", it "hatched" . . . Technically that is . . . Grandma will take care of the chick! It's lesson time! Lesson time!
*He grabbed Link by the back of the collar & dragged him out of the barn*
Link: Do I have to? Can't it wait?
*Soon, Link was holding a sword & shield & sparring with his Grandfather*
Grandfather: Tsk-Tsk! If you don't try harder, you'll get hurt!
*As he fought, the mark of the Triforce was seen on the back of his left hand. Nearby, a 12 year old girl with short blonde hair & braids on each side of her face, peach skin with freckles on her cheeks, blue eyes, & wearing an orange scarf around her neck, a long green checkered dress over a white long sleeved shirt, a black belt with a gold buckle, black socks, & brown shoes was hanging the laundry to dry. She also had the mark of the Triforce on the back of her left hand (look up "Elina - Hanging Laundry" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt")*
(Elina's POV)
*Hello. My name is Elina. The boy currently sparring with my Grandfather is my twin brother, Link (he's older by 12 minutes). They do this practically every day. But he's not the only one who goes through this*
*I had just finished with the laundry when I heard a voice that made me jump*
Grandfather:*off-screen* Elina! *I turned to see Grandfather behind me, giving me a stern look. Behind him, Link was catching his breath* Link is done training for the day! It's your turn! Go get your bow & arrows & meet around back!
Elina:*sigh* Yes, Grandfather.
*Soon, Grandfather & I were behind the house. I held my bow & an arrow, (look up "Elina - Aiming an Arrow (Oracle of Seasons)" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt") aiming at a large tree with a target painted on it. I let loose a arrow & it the bullseye*
Grandfather: Good! Keep your eye on the target!
*I sighed. Grandfather has been training us both like this since we could walk. This whole craziness started the day we were born*
(Flashback - 12 Years ago - Third-Person POV)
*The sound of two babies crying was heard outside the cottage. Inside, a woman lay in bed. Grandfather & Grandmother stood beside her. Two babies, one boy & one girl, were next to the woman, crying*
Grandmother: Oh, look at the children's left hands. They have the mark of the Sacred Pyramid. They're sure to grow up to be important!
*Grandfather held up baby Link & baby Elina*
Grandfather: You'll be the greatest Knights in Hyrule! Greater than me!
Link & Elina's Mother: Oh, Father . . . *she held both babies in her arms* I just want them to grow with kind hearts. My wonderful Link, my beautiful Elina, grow up happy.
(Present Time - Elina's POV)
*We have lived a pretty happy life the last 12 years. Except, our Mother is no longer with us. She passed away when we were years old. Link was always a mischievous child while I was a bit more quiet. But despite our differences, Link & I were really close. The only thing that I would say was hard about our lives was Grandfather's daily training*
Grandfather: Link! Elina! It's time for your lessons! They ran off again! Link! Elina!
*Link was actually hiding in a tree & I was hiding behind it*
*The next day, I was with my friends (look up "Lyra, Amber, & Sophia" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt") in the forest, picking berries*
Elina: My Grandfather has his heart set on me and my brother becoming Knights, but that's not what I want to be. What I want is . . .
Lyra: We know. We know. You want to study medicine and be an herbalist.
Amber: But if you do become a Knight, then you would be the hero to girls everywhere.
Sophia: You just don't know how lucky you are sometimes.
Elina: Lucky?
*Later that day, Link & I were sitting at a desk in the living room, listening to Grandfather tell stories. On the walls were portraits of Knights. The chick, who Link had named Piyoko, was on the desk next to him*
Grandfather: Listen, we may live like this now, but we moved to the country to nurse your Mother back to health. You two cone from a long line of Knights, who loyally serve the King of Hyrule. As a young man, I was a great war hero! 32 years ago, I once . . .
Link: We've heard that story hundreds of times!
*He yawned. Grandfather slammed his fist on the table*
Grandfather: Sit up straight! You're always slouching like a rubber tree. You're both smart, and good with a sword & bow & arrow. *he took both of our left hands* And most of all, you both got those marks on your left hands. You're destined to be the greatest Knights in the land.
*We took our hands away*
Elina: That's your dream, Grandfather. Not ours.
Grandfather: Soon the annual Knight's Trial will be held at Hyrule Castle.
Link: He's not listening.
Grandfather: Today we'll start special training so you'll both pass on your first try!
Link: I don't wanna!
Elina: Sorry, Grandfather, but I don't either.
Grandfather: Wh . . . What!?
Link: I don't care how great our ancestors were, that's not what I want to do with my life! A Knight's life is all honor duty and loyalty to the King! Boooooring!
Elina: And it's not that I don't care, I just think it's too dangerous for someone like me with just a bow and arrows.
Grandfather: B - Boring!? D - Dangerous!? Don't you think it's noble to show loyalty to the King?
Link: Not particularly. I mean, he's complete stranger to me! Why would I devote my life my life to him? I want a more exciting life! If I have to be a Knight, I wanna be the adventuring kind!
Elina: And I just want to be an herbalist and live a quiet life.
Grandfather: I . . . I WON'T ALLOW IT!
*We both ran out of the house as he shouted*
Link: We're not gonna go in any Knight's Trial! You can't make us!
*We both ran away*
Grandfather: Link! Elina!
Elina: Sorry, Grandfather!
Grandfather: W . . . *Link quickly went back to grab Piyoko* Come back here!
*We both ran until the sun started to set in the distance. The stars were already appearing in the sky above. Three of them formed a triangle*
Link: Whew! The air has gotten kinda chilly! *he made a triangle with his hands* The Great Pyramid is in the autumn night sky.
Elina: Everyone says it's a sign of good luck, but . . . It's more like curse for us.
Link: Yeah . . .
*We then went home & found Grandfather sitting at the table, drinking wine. We then went up to our bedroom & layed down on our beds. Piyoko was on Link's bed in a little basket. I thought back to what one of my friends said to me this morning*
(Flashback - Third-Person POV)
Sophia: You just don't know how lucky you are sometimes.
(Elina's POV)
*Just then, our Grandmother came up the ladder*
Grandmother: Link, Elina, you didn't eat any dinner. What's wrong?
Link: Hi, Grandma.
Elina: Hello, Grandmother.
*Grandmother sat on Link's bed & I joined them*
Link: Do you think we should be Knights too?
Grandmother: I don't think we should force you to do something you don't want to do.
Elina: It's not that we don't want to exactly, we just want to decide for ourselves.
Link: We want to do it for us, not because of our ancestors did or 'cuz Grandpa says so. That's . . . That's why we're always fighting with him. We must be terrible grandchildren.
*I felt a little guilty when he said that*
Grandmother: No, you're just at a tough point in life. What do you want to do?
*Link fell on his back*
Link: I . . . I don't know. That's what bothers me.
Elina: Me too.
*Grandmother laughed*
Grandmother: That's only natural. Even grown ups rarely know for certain what they truly want to do. The only way to be sure to to know yourself well. And in order to know yourself, you need lots of life experience. Trying out different paths is the only way to get that. Why don't you both take the trial? It can't hurt see how you do.
Link: But what'll happen if we leave? Who's going to fetch water every day or fix the roof?
Elina: Or do the laundry and take care of the animals? You and Grandfather aren't getting any younger.
*Grandmother's eyes got glossy as she put a hand to each of our cheeks*
Grandmother: Oh, my sweet children. The house will be fine and so will we. You two just life a good life!
*We both hugged Grandmother (look up " Elina & Link - Hugging their Grandmother" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt")*
*A few days later, Link & I were standing in front of the cottage with Grandfather & Grandmother. I was wearing a green hooded poncho over a white short sleeved shirt, brown gloves, a orange skirt over black shorts, a brown belt, & brown boots (look up "Linkle Oracle style" by "rongs1234" on "DeviantArt"). I had my bow & quiver of arrows on my back & a bag of medicinal herbs over my shoulder. Grandfather gave Link a sword*
Grandfather: This is the legendary sword my Father gave me when I took the Knight's Trial. It's your now. *Link took the sword* Link. Elina. Stay true to your heart, it will guide you well. That's all I can say.
Link: Thank you, Grandpa. For everything.
Elina: Thank you, Grandfather.
*We started walking*
Grandfather: Don't come back until you've matured!
Grandmother: Come back anytime!
*Grandfather started getting tears in his eyes*
Grandfather: Link! Elina!
*We both waved then goodbye**
Link: Bye, Grandma! Bye, Grandpa! We'll make you proud!
Elina: We promise!
*We soon left the village &
Link & Elina: Hey!
Link: What're you doing here, Piyoko?
Elina:*giggle* Looks like we're all traveling together now!
*She jumped on Link's head & we set out. We soon arrived at Castle Town*
Link: Whooee! Castle Towns sure are something! All kinds of stuff for sale! Every day is like market day back at the village.
Elina: It really was worth it coming to the city. Hmm, I wonder where the Trial is being held.
*We went to the Castle, where people, mostly men, were lining up to sign up*
Link: Um, excuse me. My sister and I would like to enter the Knight's Trial.
*A boy our age with black hair, peach skin, brown eyes, & wearing a red cape over armor turned to us*
Armored Boy: What? You two want to take the Knight's Trial?
Link: Yup!
Elina: Yes.
*The boy stared at us for a few minutes. He then let out a snort*
Link: What's so funny?
*The boy started to leave*
Armored Boy: Nothing. Sorry. I shouldn't be making fun of two young and ignorant children.
Link: What!?
*He turned back to us*
Armored Boy: Do either of you have any idea how hard it is to become a Knight of the Palace? Two bumpkins like you, fresh from the farm, will only embarrass yourself and your family. You should leave before it's too late.
*Link started to look angry. I put a hand on his shoulder*
Elina: Link, calm down. Don't let him get to you.
*He ignored me. Piyoko trembled on his shoulder*
Link: You say that, but it's you in your pretty clothes all wrapped in armor like a greenhorn! Do you even know how to use a sword?
*The boy didn't say anything for a minute. He then smirked & drew his sword*
Armored Boy: I suppose I'm going to have to show you what I know, bumpkin. En garde!
*Link drew the sword Grandfather gave him & threw his bag over his shoulder. I quickly went to pick it up. Piyoko hid in his shirt*
Link: This's gonna be fun!
*A crowd started to gather to watch*
Armored Boy: Is that cheap toy what you call a sword?
Link: No one insults our Grandpa's sword! No one!
*He charged at the boy & their swords clashed. Soon, the boy easily pushed my brother back & hit him with movements faster than I could see*
Elina:*in her mind* Oh my! He's so strong! But he's the same age as us!
*Soon, Link was getting tired as he panted*
Link: N . . . Not bad . . .
Armored Boy: What? You're tired already? A farm boy like you? Pitiful. It's time I put an end to this.
(Third-Person POV)
Link:*in his mind* It'll be bad luck for either of us if I lose so quickly!
*I looked at Elina, who looked worried*
(Elina's POV)
*Link lifted his left hand & the boy's eyes went wide*
(Third-Person POV)
Link:*in his mind* We . . . Have the blood of the Knights of Hyrule!
(Elina's POV)
*While the boy seemed to be distracted by something, Link sliced at him with his sword, making a cut in his cheek. Link & I both gasped. I was about to rush over & help him, when I heard the sound of hoofs coming towards us*
Royal Guard: Hey! What's all the commotion there!?
Armored Boy: Uh-oh! Get out of here . . . Now! If they catch you, you'll be thrown in jail. *Link ran away. I was about to follow him, but suddenly, the boy grabbed my arm* Wait! You're his twin sister right?
Elina: Y - Yes.
Armored Boy: Let me see your left hand. *I was confused by his question, but took off my left glove. He then grabbed my hand & looked at the back of it* So I was right . . . *the sound of hoofs came closer* Quick, get out of here!
*I quickly put my glove back on, took a small bag of herbs out of my bag & gave it to him*
Elina: Here, take this. It'll help with the pain.
*I then ran after my brother*
(Third-Person POV)
*A man stepped up to the boy*
Man: Why did you save them? You should have turned them in.
Armored Boy: The Sacred Mark was on the back of their left hands.
Man: Huh!?
*Neither of them noticed a girl with long golden blonde hair, porcelain skin, blue eyes, & wearing a gold tiara, a white cape held by gold shoulder guards, & a magenta & light pink dress watching them from a window of the Castle*
(Elina's POV)
*Link & I both ran until we ran out of breath & sat down*
Link: That was close! We're both kids, but he's so strong!
*Piyoko poked out of Link's shirt*
Elina: Compared to him, we're just country bumpkins. Two small fishes in a big pond.
Link: Well then, no better teacher than experience, right?
Elina: Right.
*We then looked around at where we had sat down*
Link: Where the heck are we?
*We stood up & started to walk down a hallway*
Elina: Are we in the Castle!?
Link: Th - That's strange. How did we get in here?
*Suddenly, we heard a voice behind us*
Royal Guard #2: Who goes there!?
Link & Elina: Uh-oh!
*We ran further into the Castle*
Elina:*in her mind* If we get caught, we'll go to prison!? Grandfather will kill us if we embarrass the family!
*We both hid. The guard went past us & we sighed in relief. We then looked up & we saw that we were in a long hallway. At the end, was an alter with three gold triangles on it*
Link: That's . . . *we stepped up to the alter* They're just like the mark on our hands. *we both touched the triangles & suddenly they started to glow really bright. they then came together to form the Triforce* Wh . . . Oa . . .!
Elina: What's happening!?
?:*off-screen* O, ye with the crest of the Triforce on thy left hands shall undertake the trial of the Triforce!
*Then everything went black*
(Third-Person POV)
*As the twins disappeared, the girl from before stepped up to the alter*
Princess Zelda: If you are the chosen heroes, I implore you - protect the people of Holodrum.
(Elina's POV)
*I woke up to the sound of birds singing. I opened my eyes to find Link & I laying in a meadow. Link woke up soon after me & rubbed his head*
Link: Wh . . . Where are we?
Elina: I don't know. The last thing I remember, we were standing in front of that strange alter under the Castle.
*We stood up & looked around*
Link: Are we back in the village? No, we can't be.
Elina: B - But where's the Castle!? Wh - Where in the world are we!?
*Link sat back on the ground & started ripping up grass in frustration*
Link: We worked hard to get to the city! Where are we!?
Elina: Link, stop! Getting upset isn't helping the situation here!
*Suddenly, Link's stomach growled*
Link: Oh, hey, I've been so excited that I haven't eaten all day. *he reached to hi back* In my bag . . . Where's my bag!?
Elina: Right here. I picked it up after you tossed it aside.
Link: Oh, thank goodness! *he hugged me* You are the best sister ever!
Elina: I know.
*Just then, we both noticed something else was missing*
Link & Elina: The sword!
*We both frantically searched the grass*
Link: Grandpa's sword!
Elina: Where is it!?
*Soon, Link found it*
Link: Here it is.
Elina: Thank goodness.
*Link then noticed something else*
Link: Piyo . . . Hey, Piyoko's . . . Gone . . .
*A tear came out of Link's eye & I hugged him*
Elina: Don't worry, Link. I'm sure she's okay.
*His stomach growled again. I was about to reach into his bag for some food, when I suddenly heard drums. We both looked behind us & saw a village*
Link: Oh . . . There's a village back there. Good! That helps.
*We started to run towards it*
Villager #1: A traveling performer!
Villager #2: A company of traveling performers has arrived!
Villager #3: Hurry! Let's go see!
*We stepped up to a crowd*
Villager #4: They've got a new dancer.
Villager #5: They say her name is Din. She sure is pretty!
*We made our way through the crowd & our eyes went wide. Two men playing a violin & a guitar were standing in front of a stage. Two girls wearing matching dresses, one had long brown hair in a ponytail & the other had long black hair with a scarf wrapped around it, were dancing on it. with tambourines. In between them was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She had long red hair in a high ponytail held up by a gold band, tan skin, red eyes, & was wearing a gold choker, a magenta leotard, gold bracelets, & red sandles. I could feel my cheeks turn red as I watched her dance. My brother was just as mesmerized*
