A/N- Here's my submission for Day 4 of the Scarletstrange week. Yep, I am late. Anyways Enjoy!
This is an AU
Stephen stood at the doorway to the Paediatric unit, holding two cups of coffee and smiling quite fondly at the scene playing out in front of him.
A brown haired woman was speaking in hushed whispers to a three year old girl, flower crowns adorning both their heads. The little girl nodded and the brunette in question slipped a little sweet into the girl's hand, whose face broke out into a big smile. The little one gave the woman a tight hug and allowed herself to be escorted out by a nurse.
"Stephen!" She bounded up to him grinning, her green eyes lighting up seeing the cups of coffee. "Thank goodness! You are a lifesaver."
"Hello Wanda. Why do I feel the cups of coffee get a better greeting than me?" Stephen asked, mock annoyance lacing his voice.
"Silly man!" Wanda rolled her eyes, reached up on her tiptoes and placed a quick kiss on his cheek. Stephen's eyes crinkled with amusement and he handed her a cup.
The newest interns at the Paediatric unit were left quite shocked seeing the infamous neurosurgeon who had the reputation of being stoic and serious dissolve into smiles.
Wanda Maximoff had joined the Metro-General Hospital as Paediatrician around the same time as Stephen Strange and Christine Palmer began working there. The soft spoken Sokovian had won the hearts of both the children and her colleagues in no time. The children loved her as she would hand out sweets, give them flower crowns she had personally crafted. She would not hesitate to join in with the children and play with them whenever she had free time. It was not uncommon for Wanda to be in the playroom of the unit, reading to them or playing their games. While most climbed up the proverbial ladder, Wanda was touching hearts.
She had first met Stephen when she had approached him with the file of five year old William. He had a tumour growing at the back of his brain, Diffuse astrocytoma (Grade 2) to be precise. He had almost rejected the surgery but the conviction and determination in her voice left him curious. The surgery had been a success and the boy was on the gradual road to recovery with Wanda helping him through the process. Stephen was definitely impressed and from that moment it was history.
When Stephen had introduced Wanda to Christine, he had expected some sort of apprehension from her, given the two had dated in the past but to his surprise the two women became fast friends in no time. Very soon the trio would become best of friends and Stephen would admit that Wanda had played a part in diminishing his massive ego as she would take no nonsense from him.
Christine noticed this and she was quite happy to see it. She saw how Stephen lit up and how easy-going he would become in Wanda's presence. She could see how the two would make heart eyes at each other. At first, it was adorable to see them act all lovey and dovey behind the 'hey-we-are friends-and co-workers' act but frankly it was annoying her and the others to see them so oblivious to one another's feelings.
Christine waited outside an operating theatre, having just finished her shift. Stephen and Wanda were inside with their latest patient. The parents of the child were waiting anxiously outside.
"Don't worry Ma'am. Your daughter will be alright." She moved towards the mother of the girl. "She is in good hands."
"I know...they are a good couple...some of the best doctors I have seen. I have never seen two people working so in sync with one another."
Christine tried to hide her chuckles. "They aren't together...they aren't dating or married." She smiled at the lady.
The woman looked shocked, "What do you mean those two aren't together?!"
"They're just co-workers" Christine added conspiratorially, "or so they say"
This was getting plain ridiculous. Everyone could see it except for those two idiots. Christine didn't meddle with other people's lives but she would make an exception with Stephen and Wanda. She just needed a bit of time.
It turned out she did not have to meddle which made a part of her very glad. They informed her together quite sheepishly, red dusting their faces.
Christine let out a squeal and crushed the two in a hug. She was extremely happy they had figured it out.
She grinned at the two, "It's about damn time!"
A/N- I've always wanted write an Hospital AU so here it is. Would really love to know what you all think. This posted on Tumblr and on Ao3 too.
