"Hello?" said Derek's mother over the phone. "Hey, it's Michelle. Um, is Derek in by chance? I won't be but just a second." "OK, hon, but please make it quick. You guys were given a lot of homework tonight from what Derek told me." "Yeah, I'm about to get started on it actually. That's why I said I wouldn't be but just a quick minute." "Derek? Here... It's Michelle. Make it quick."
"Hey Michelle.", said Derek. "What's up?" "A lot actually!" "Oh? Are you OK?", Derek said with concern. "Oh, I'm fine. Derek, listen... I want to show you something." Michelle went over to her boombox which had a tape of DJ's recording. She hit play.
"No way!, said Derek. "Don't tell me that's DJ!" "Michelle stopped the tape. "Yeah... believe it or not, you're not dreaming. I had no idea!" "Wowzers, Michelle! Yeah! Neither did I. Man is she good!", said Derek. "Yeah, well, DJ was wondering if you'd be willing to learn the backing parts, and maybe record them with her in Uncle Jesse's studio at some point." "Oh, cool!", Derek exclaimed. "I'd love to. It would be my pleasure." Derek was another one of the few kids who had an incredible natural gift of singing. Every time he did so, everyone would stop and stare... in a good way of course.
"Well, Michelle, I'm sorry to cut it short. I don't mean to be rude, but we've both got a fair amount of homework, and I'm just getting started, plus it's going to be dinner time soon." "No, it's quite OK. No need to apologize; I totally get it. I'll see you in class tomorrow, but thanks. I'll let DJ know you said yes. She's going to be so happy! I can't wait to tell her. Bye."
"Michelle, honey?", called Aunt Becky. "Come help us set the table for dinner, please." "OK, be right there." Michelle was so happy for her sister, she almost thought about jumping a few of the stairs on her way down, but then she thought better of it. The last thing she needed was a hospital bill on their hands. "Errr!", growled Comet. "Wo! Sorry boy. I didn't see you laying there." Comet licked her hand as she passed by.
"Michelle, what on earth's gotten you so happy for goodness sake.", said DJ as Michelle entered the dining room. "DJ, Derek said yes; he'll do it. He just needs a copy of your recording so he can learn it." "Michelle, that's great!", said Danny. "Yeah, I know. I can't wait to let Stephanie hear the recording when she gets back home." "You know, it's getting kind of late," said Danny. "I may want to call Gia's and see how much later she plans to be. I thought they were just going for burgers, but to be fair, maybe she did go back to Gia's for a while", said Danny. "Anyway," he continued, "For now, let's chow down. I'm starving!" Comet groaned. "No, Comet, you don't get people food, I'm sorry," Danny laughed.
