Prompt 12: Coaches

Witch in the Tower

Panting heavily, Korra wiped away her sweat before she looked out the windowless hole in the stoned wall. She took a peek out the opening before staring down where she had come from except she couldn't see the ground floor. In fact, she couldn't even see the nearest building or even a single measly tree as a matter of fact. All she saw were white, white fluffy clouds. When she looked ahead, it was the same view, more clouds stretched ahead

The sudden cold gale of wind reminded her that she was far, far up above civilization. She then looked directly above her head, reminded that she still had a long way to go from the top. There was no turning back at this point and if she didn't keep moving, she'd probably faint and die a silent death that no one would know of.

"Ughhhh… why am I doing this again…"

Letting out a sigh, Korra finally poked her head back inside before continuing her climb up the stairway. Thankfully, she was on the more fit side however, after climbing these stairs for who knows how long, her legs were starting to feel like something. Whether it was like lead or even jello, she didn't want to think about it. She huffed and puffed as she supported herself on the wall. When she passed the next window, she glanced outside to look at the sky.

"Sun's starting to set…"

Sighing yet again, Korra sucked it up and started humming some tones. It wasn't until a while later when the sun was finally starting to set, that she stopped humming to save her breath. Her sweat was dripping frequently compared to earlier and she wiped it away with her sleeve before grunting at the burning sensation in her leg.

"My legs are killing meeeee."

Soon enough, the sunlight was no longer shining in the tower and Korra snapped her fingers to lit a flame. The hallway lit up brightly and the higher she climbed, the smaller the flame grew. She was starting to get gassed out. Her stomach growled and she wished she thought about this beforehand.

"I'm hungry…"

Her stomach growled again.

"I should've brought a snack and some water…"

Her throat was parched.

"Gotta… keep… climbing…"

Her vision was starting to grow fuzzy with her body growing ever wobbly. She had to keep her hand dragging against the wall to keep her from falling over as her feet barely scrapped over the next step. One step after another. She was growing slower by the second and her flame was starting to flicker weakly. She had no thoughts or words, her body was solely focused on moving forward.

Eventually, she reached an area that looked different. There was a door. No more stairs. No more climbing. Her body naturally reached forward to grab the handle. She weakly pulled on it to no avail. A breath of disappointment didn't even leave her lips so instead, she fell to her backup plan. Her hand went up to knock on it but the moment she moved forward, she slammed into the door before all the strength in her legs gave out.

"So… tired…"

The last thing she remembered as her eyes grew heavy with her vision tunneling, the door clicked open and something bumped into her. The voice of a stranger was the next thing she heard before her eyes fell shut.

"What the…"

She lost consciousness.

xXx

"Mmh…"

Mumbling in her sleep, Korra tossed and turned before her face scrunched. Her eyebrows creased and her nose twitched. She sniffed the air before her mouth started watering at the delicious aroma.

"Something smells good…"

She sniffed repeatedly before rousing in her sleep. Sitting up like a zombie, she groaned before swinging her feet off the bed. As she pushed herself up, the moment she tried to stand, her legs gave out on her and she immediately fell forward with a loud thud.

"Ow…"

She groaned in pain before attempting to reach out.

"So… hungry…"

Her stomach grumbled and it was then a soft chuckle caught her attention.

"Aren't you an interesting one?"

Tensing at the sound of her voice, Korra begrudgingly looked up.

"W-Who…?"

She finally laid eyes on the owner of the voice and the moment she made eye contact with them, or rather her, her eyes widened in awe. Something about her green eyes captivated her and the way her wavy raven hair cascaded around her face was alluring. She lost her words and it wasn't until she spoke again that she snapped out of whatever trance she was in.

"So, care to explain why you're in my tower." She brushed away a strand of hair before crossing her legs.

"T-That's…" Right, why am I here again? She thought back to the reason why on earth she would climb this tower. A tower that no one dared to climb. A tower ascended far beyond the clouds. A tower that housed one of the most powerful witches in the kingdom. That's right… it all started when Korra's foul-breathed, immaculate piss of a man, and rotten swine of a pig ex cheated on her.

xXx

The sun was shining brightly and Korra was in a good, no, and amazing mood. She was on a mission. One that she knew would make her day ten times better, worth the wait, and worth working hours before sunrise. It wasn't a secret that she wasn't a morning person but her him, she'd do it in a heartbeat.

"I wonder if he'll like it…" she whispered with a small smile on her face. "I saved up all my money for this! I even waited in line to get it for him as a surprise for his birthday!" She happily skipped down the hallways to his dorm room. "I can't wait to see the surprise on his face!"

In due time, Korra was in front of his room and knocked softly before unlocking the door and twisting the door knob. "Mako! Sweetheart, I got you—" her eyes widened before she dropped his gift. "Wha—"

"K-Korra?! W-What are you?!"

She watched as he scrambled to hide his naked body along with another… her eyes fell down to the girl he was fucking. Some girl that she had vaguely recognized since their class had shared a joint exercise together last week. Her stomach dropped in the realization.

"Y-You…"

An assortment of emotions washed over her body. Confusion. Anger. Sorrow. But, most importantly… betrayal. She clenched her jaw before her fingers dug into her nails. She had to leave otherwise, there was no telling what she would do to them. She turned faster than one could blink and within seconds, she was storming down the hallway that she had been happily skipping along just moments ago. She bit back her tears and she could hear her boyfriend, no, her ex, calling out to her.

She didn't want to hear it.

Her head wasn't in the right mind and the next thing she knew, she was in the outskirts of town on another mission. A mission that her fellow classmates would call foolish and would never dare to attempt. That was contacting the infamous witch of the academy. Albeit, she graduated years ago however her reputation was notorious and her name was enough to scare off the spineless.

Korra, however, wasn't the type to falter. That's why without a second of hesitation, she made her way there. Up this tower that was legendary in the kingdom for being the tallest structure around. She didn't want to know how many stairs it had but from what she vaguely called, it was in the thousands. It didn't matter though, the witch that lived at the top was a genius that came once every century or two. She couldn't pass up the opportunity.

She had to get revenge on her ex.

She had to.

xXx

"That's…" Korra tried to speak but the only strength left in her body was in her stomach. It growled again, this time more persistently and loudly. That made her blush deeply and the witch only stared at her with a blank face.

"..." she sighed before standing up. "How cumbersome."

She then went inside her kitchen, preparing some sort of stew and a glass of water. After she set it down on the table, she went over to help Korra up. Korra winced when the witch picked her up with little to no resistance before helping her onto the chair. After that, she placed a spoon in her hand before walking away into some room.

"We'll talk once you're in a better condition."

Feeling completely sheepish, Korra frowned before weakly scooping up the stew. Once she worked up enough strength to eat a bite, she chewed it before tears began to drip down her face. "T-Thank you…" she sniffled before taking another bite. "It's delicious…" she continued to consume her meal, half eating and half crying.

As she did so, the witch watched her carefully from afar. She was observing her meticulously in silence out of consideration. It wasn't until her unwelcomed guest had finished her meal that she finally walked back into the room before taking a seat across from her. She then looked Korra straight in the eyes before asking again but this time, it was a different question.

"How are you feeling?"

Korra blinked in surprise before she looked down in shame. "G-Good now thanks… the stew was really good."

"Good," the witch shifted in her spot, "I added some rejuvenating herbs into it so you back to normal in a few hours."

"..."

Astonished by her surprise ingredient, Korra was lost for words. She wasn't sure if it was because this witch wasn't as notorious as the rumor had said or if it was because of how stunning she was. She didn't have long to ponder on that thought though.

"Care to expand on as to why you're here in my tower. From what I recall, I never invited anyone here."

Right. Korra was here for a reason. "That's…" she shifted uncomfortably in her spot.

Humming somewhat amused, the witch shifted in her seat as well. "I don't know whether to be impressed or dumbfounded. You're probably the first one to climb my tower successfully."

Korra couldn't keep her eyes off her lips.

They were nice to look at surprisingly.

The witch's sharp glare made her flinch. "My patience is running dry. You invited yourself into my home and I've even provided you with food. You can either tell me who you are and why you're here or you can help yourself out. I'm sure you know the way…"

"That's—" no! "M-My name is Korra! I'm a second year at the Lotus Temple Academy and I wanted to ask you a favor!" She spat out in a rush in fear of being turned down. "I— p-please help me get revenge on my ex!"

"..." Blinking once, the witch cocked her head. "You came up my tower… to get help… on getting revenge… on your ex?" She said slowly, doubting what she had heard.

Korra nodded furiously.

Letting out a sigh, the witch leaned back in her chair. "How ridiculous. Leave." She stood up without batting an eye before walking away.

"W-Wait!" Korra exclaimed before jumping out of the chair and getting down onto her knees. "Please! I'm begging you! Please help me! I even climbed your tower! Please!"

"It seems you didn't hear me, go home Korra. I am not a charity. There is no reason for me to help you."

"But— you're the most powerful witch in our city!"

"And?"

"And something like this would be a piece of cake for you!"

"Are we friends?"

"N-No…?"

"Then are you my acquaintance?"

"No…"

"In that case, why should I help you? We are simply strangers and there is no merit in it for me."

"T-That's…" she had a point. They were essential strangers so there was no reason to help her. Heck, if anything, Korra should be the one giving her a favor for the help she had given her. But even so… there was no way she could forgive her ex. "Please!" She sounded more desperate that earlier, "Mako… that cheating, two-timing asshole! I waited so long in this line before sunrise to get him this stupid wand he wanted. I used up all my money on him and how did he repay me? Fucking some bitch that's how! I just… I want him to pay! To feel what I felt. I just…" tears started bottling up again. She remembered the emotions she felt and it was hard to bear.

Her heart ached.

It ached so bad.

"And, what does that have to do with me?"

Her voice was cold and ruthless. What did she expect? The witch was right. There was no reason for her to help Korra so it was pointless to try.

"I…" She stared at her hands on the floor. Tears began to spill and she hated how pathetic and helpless she was. "Y-You're… I… I'm sorry to have bothered you. Thanks for the help… I'll figure something out myself…" She then forced herself up, even if she was still weak and fatigued, before dragging herself and making her way to the door.

"..."

Korra was just a step away and once her hand landed on the door handle, the witch spoke up.

"Wait."

Korra froze before turning around with her head hung in defeat. "Yeah?"

"..."

The witch scrunched her face before sighing at what she was about to do.

"You said revenge… what did you have in mind?"

For once, Korra's eyes finally lit up. "T-That's!" Her words ran short and she deflated. "I don't know."

"You don't know?" The witch clarified.

"N-No…?"

The witch let out a deep sigh. "Just great."

xXx

"Alright, listen up Korra. If you want to put a jinx on someone, you have to prepare this potion very precisely." The witch stated before carefully putting together some ingredients in her workshop. "If you don't… it'll backfire on you and you'll be having bad luck for weeks."

Korra stared intensely as she took down some notes. "Uhuh…"

"After you complete the solution, you carefully swirl it together before pouring it into a sprayable bottle." She swirls the potion around inside a potion flask before pouring it into a small perfume bottle. "And that's how it's done. After that, all you need to do is spray your target with it and they'll be jinxed for a few days."

"Uhuh…" she answered before scribbling down more notes.

"As for specific jinxes, there are countless types however for your situation… you can either choose to make him impotent, break out in hives, change his voice into a frog, or even smell like a wet mule. Of course, the effects are temporary but take your pick. I'll write down a list so if you see anything you like, you can use it."

"Uhuh."

As the witch began listing the ingredients and production steps for each potion, Korra could help but space out as she observed her features. It has been at least a week since her initial climb and from that day forth, at least Korra would like to say, was the start of her master and apprentice days. The more time they spent together, which was essentially whenever Korra was at school or was sleeping, she would come over to play— no, to study the best way of giving Mako sweet revenge.

That and also for some reason, Korra couldn't help but think that the witch secretly enjoyed her attention. She really wasn't what the rumors had painted her to be and for some reason, Korra wasn't surprised. From day one, she did help her out after fainting. She even fed her too so was she really as ruthless and cruel as these rumors said? Korra couldn't deny that possibility but at the very least, the witch she knew was simply… brilliant, kind, overwhelming, and beautiful.

Okay, maybe a little mean sometimes but that was part of her charm.

Before she knew it, Korra wasn't sure how much time passed. What she did know thought was that she enjoyed spending her time with this witch and learning anything and everything from her. At some point, she even gave Korra some tips on how to pass her classes to the point that Korra had long forgotten about Mako. At least… until Mako called out to her on her way to the tower.

"Korra, can we talk? You've been ignoring me for more than a month now."

Letting out a sigh, Korra wished she had just gone straight to the witch's tower instead of swinging by the canteen for a snack. Of course, the one day she does, she gets stopped by him. "I don't have any words for a cheating asshole who's swinging his dick all over the place."

"That's— I can explain."

"That you got horny and decided to fuck someone other than your girlfriend?"

"That's— I didn't mean to!"

"Sure you didn't. Sureeee you didn't." She responded in a very sarcastic manner with a roll of her eyes before walking past him.

"Korra, wait! Come on, where are you even going?"

"None ya business!" She flicked a middle finger without bothering to turn around.

xXx

"…" Turning slightly to get a close look at Korra, the witch watched her carefully before asking. "Is everything alright?"

Korra hardly turned to face her. "Yeah, of course. Why wound;t it be?"

"..." A second passed as she thought to collect her thoughts before speaking up. "Have you finally decided on how you're gonna get revenge?"

"..." This time, Korra was silent. "That's…"

The witch finally let out a sigh. "Korra, you've been coming to my tower for the past month now. That should be plenty of time to get at least an idea of what to do. What do you want? Coming here every day and learning about potions you don't even take proper notes on."

Busted. "I— I just…" she looked down at her hands. I want to spend time with you. "I just don't wanna waste time on him…"

The witch looked at her with a tense look before she sighed again. "Look, Korra, it's best you move on. There's no point in dwelling over a mad that's worse than scum. If you can't decide on a punishment, did you want me to decide?"

"What?!" Korra's eyes popped open. "That's— oh no no no! I can't bother you with something like this!"

The serious look in her eyes made Korra weak in her legs.

"There's only one way to get better and that's ripping out the bandaid in one go. Even if that means smoking up his dorm room, ripping out his hair, and turning him into a hideous bull-frog."

What was even scarier is that Korra had this suspicion she wasn't lying.

"No thank you, as much as I appreciate it Miss Witch, I'm good with—"

"I have a name you know. You can call me by it."

"That's…" she was afraid of crossing that line for some reason because if she did then—

"Unless you're telling me that this entire time, you don't know it?"

"No!" She quickly snapped back. "I do know I just…"

"Then what is it?" She said in a demanding tone.

"It's…" Korra was feeling sheepish for no reason. "It's it's Asa…" her voice fell short and that made the witch cock an eyebrow.

"It's?" She repeated but this time, Korra knew it was her last chance before if she didn't respond properly then… let's just say she wished would've prevented it with all her might.

"A-Asami…"

The look in Asami's eyes softened. "Hmm, so you do know."

"I… I did…" she squirmed in place, shy for some reason as if she had said a confession of some sort.

Asami smirked coyly before shifting on her seat. "So, what was this boy's name again?"

"Uh…" Korra felt this nervous feeling in her stomach for some reason. "Mako…?"

She simply hummed before flipping a page in her notebook.

"..."

They sat in silence afterward.

xXx

"And so for today's class, we will be crafting a disguise potion. In particular, we will be doing one that will change one's hair color. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully, if you mess up one step or miss the ingredient up by even an ounce, it will affect the end result!"

Most of the students were chatting amongst themselves while Korra on the other hand, was spacing out. She's been through this routine more than once when Asami was coaching her and giving her some advice on magic potions. Obviously, she messed up the first few times but after much… scolding, she got the gist of it. The class went on as per usual but by the end of it, most of the students had potions exploding in their faces, leaving them with a colorful make-over.

Except for Korra.

Coughing sporadically, a fellow classmate blew a puff of air before getting a look at Korra. "W-What the? How in the world did you not mess that up Korra?!"

Korra raised an eyebrow while turning around. "Huh?" She then takes a look around her class, seeing that all of them had practically failed, before looking at her potion. "Oh… I uh… have a really good potion's coach."

"No way?! Who?" They whined, "My potion's grade has been dropping by the day. I need helppp, you think they'll help me out."

She picked her nail out of reflex in a nervous tick. "Oh, that's…"

"Wait, is that what you've been doing since you broke up with Mako? Getting help from a tour?" Another student pitched in.

She barely looked them in the eyes. "Uh… I guess you can say that."

"Aww, here I thought you were planning some sweet revenge to get Mako back with."

"That's… I was at first…" her eyes then narrowed down at her potion flask. "But then somewhere along the way, I found something worth my time and effort."

Her classmates 'ooo'ed in awe before joking around.

"How mature of you!"

"Danggg, so cold and cool Kor!"

Korra finally cracked a small smile at some fawn memories. "Thanks, I guess I just got lucky finding a good coach."

As her classmates continued to gossip, Korra just stared at her potion, reliving the moments she shared with Asami. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she'd break up with her useless boyfriend and then not even care enough to get revenge on him. It probably was all thanks to a certain witch she grew to love…

Wait, love?

Korra's cheeks grew pink at the realization.

She might be in love with Asami.
