Chapter 7
Hunt for Hermione
Sitting in a little cafe down in a small town near Penzance. I've literally checked out every possible leads down in this neck of the woods.
The noise of seagulls draw me out of my musings…
I watch a happy couple walk pass the shop window hand in hand, kids loudly getting ice cream from the front counter.
I lift my head in desperation where is she?
I finish the last of my coffee thinking back to the first days of her going.
First place I went to was gringotts and I saw the head goblin, who informed me she had indeed been in that morning withdrawing funds.
But, not from our joint account only her own personal account.
I had been making deposits into her account after the first anniversary of her coming back to Hogwarts. A "just incase" fund.
I'd done fairly well over the last few years with my owl order potions company and my salary from the school though not large, I had not expensives to pay for.
I wanted her to have options if the spell or her situation was never reversed and as the years past, this looked more likely.
I didn't know how I was ever going to let her know it was there for her, maybe in my Will.
I had the thought that as she was so much younger than me now, she'd definitely outlive me. I wanted to feel I'd be providing something towards her life if, and when I was gone.
I'd left clear instructions with the goblins to let her take out however much she wanted out of the joint account, if she ever came asking.
But after speaking with him, it was Hermione that left instructions for me instead.
She'd basically told me to stick my money and that she wouldn't touch a knaut that wasn't hers or she's earn't.
I had totally not read the room with that one. I'd obviously offended her with that, but that was never my intention.
I got up from the table and left a couple of quid for the coffee, resolute to keep looking.
At that moment the gold coin in my pocket glowed, indicating the headmistress needed to speak to me.
I smiled at the clever little invention made by a curly haired beauty. I wonder if she remembered that she first invented back in our time together?
I found an empty corner and apperated away back to the castle.
Once I arrived at the school gates and almost jogged to the headmistress office, I was up the main staircase and got to the gargoyles and hesitated for a second, had she changed the password whilst I've been gone?
I said "Honey dukes" under my breath and the stairs were revealed, so up I went to see what she'd heard.
Minerva was sat at her desk as I walked in and she was up on her feet as soon as she saw it was me.
"She's wrote, a letter came about an hour ago now". The white parchment was held out in front of her "here she's given her address". I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding
"I quickly scanned the letter, no mention of me, but that's understandable the letter was to Minerva but the little sharp pang of jealousy just creeped in, I pushed it down.
"She's safe " I say
Nodding she says "You must go at once severus bring our girl home"
I nod in return and turn to leave but turn back to Minerva she was looking at me, eyes wide expectedly "Minerva, thank you doesn't seem enough… your support has been invaluable to me and I don't know what I'd done without it".
She opened and closed her mouth to say something, I didn't wait I turned and headed straight out the castle.
