Hello! This chapter was written quite some time ago, so it might be a little rocky at first. Bear with me!
As Miles was fighting Kingpin, the last thing he saw was his dad's worried face, looking at him and not even knowing who he was behind the black mask. Miles felt absolutely destroyed, but that wasn't the worst of it. As Kingpin lifted him up, he looked behind the man and saw his fathers eyes one last time. Miles gave one final smile to his father, then was cast down into the vortex of the machine Doc Oct and Kingpin had built. His father did not even know who he was, or that his son had just been thrown into a portal to any other dimension.
Miles was spat out in an alley, still in his Shadow Spider costume and slowly stood up. "W-where am I?" He wondered aloud, his body aching. Suddenly, he heard an explosion nearby and also heard shouting. "No rest for the weary eh?" Miles muttered to himself. And swung to the noise. "Holy shit!" Miles cried out when he saw the sludge villain. "That thing is the definition of gross! Wait. Why are the heroes doing nothing?! There's a kid in there! And there's news reporters and civilians! They look like they're watching your everyday TV show! What the hell is wrong with these people!?" Suddenly, a young looking green haired boy ran into the fray and tried to claw the trapped blonde out. 'I really admire this kid.' Miles thought. 'Out of all the people that have powers here, he's the only one to rush in and try to help. But now's not the time!' He quickly reminded himself as he landed next to the boy. Miles took quick action and fired two webs at the blonde, one catching each shoulder, then cut the right one off and gave it to the greenette. "Here! Take this and pull!" He ordered. The boy didn't hesitate and did as told, the both of them pulling his friend out. "Take him and go!" Miles shouted and the two boys did as told, running back to the other heros. Without wasting any time, Miles jumped onto the face of the sludge dude and grabbed onto his eyes, electrocuting him. "Ugh. I can't hold him for much longer. Can I get some backup!?" Miles shouted.
"Detroit… Smash!" He heard someone say and quickly jumped out of the way thanks to his spider sense. Miles was now sticking to a wall on a building and watching the fires being put out by the rain one-punch man caused. "Young hero!" One-punch man called up to him. "Why don't you come down so I can properly thank you?"
"Sorry sir!" Miles replied. "But us spider folk don't usually get along with authorities very well. Thanks for the help!" And Miles turned invisible and scaled the building. Miles could tell the man wanted to follow him, but the media thankfully kept him grounded. The boy made his way to the two teens he had saved and the grennette still had one of the webs coiled around his wrist, while the blonde had the other coiled around his. "Guess they appreciate my help." Miles said to himself. As expected, the blonde was getting praised for his bravery and holding up against the villain, but the grenette was being scolded. 'Some heroes they are, scolding someone for trying to save another while they weren't.' Miles thought to himself. Miles 'fwipped' away on his webs and decided to do something he had wanted to do for a long time. He found the tallest building he could see, slapped a sticker where his dad would never find it, and sat down with his mask off, watching as the sun began to set.
Izuku Midoriya was walking back to his house when Kacchan stormed up to him. "Deku! You damned nerd! You did nothin-" He was suddenly cut off.
"Kid, if you don't accept what happened sooner or later, you're going to regret it." The two looked up to see the spider-themed hero hanging upside-down by a web on a lamp post. "He gave me an extra three seconds to help, and if I didn't have those three seconds, you could quite possibly be dead right now." He said bluntly. "Not accepting reality can lead to bad things, trust me, I should know. And green hair, thank you. I believe you were the real hero back there. You were the first to run into the fray even though there were heroes around you with powers, and they were doing nothing." The spider hero was about to leave, but Kacchan stopped him.
"Hey." He said. "...Thank's…" He said. "Both of you, for saving me. And Spider Hero, thank you for telling me what I was doing wrong…" With that, he turned on his heel and left, his scowl replaced with a face of deep thought. Izuku was in complete shock. He had never heard Kacchan say the words 'thank you' for his entire life.
"Not one to say thank you much, I take it?" The Spider Hero asked. Izuku jumped in surprise and spoke.
"Y-yah." He said scratching the back of his head. "H-he doesn't say things like that often at all."
"Well. I'd better get going. Take care!" And he jumped away.
"Wait! What's your name!?" Isuku called out after him.
"You can call me Shadow Spider!" The hero called back and was soon out of sight. That's when All-Might appeared, changing Izuku's life forever.
Miles managed to secure himself a job at a tavern on one of the further edges of town and managed to make a deal with the owner. In exchange for his services, he could get a room and an operating computer for as long as he stayed. The owner was surprisingly nice, and Miles managed to make some money on top of that.
One night, Miles was surfing the internet and saw an article that caught his eye:
"New Vigilante on the Streets! Helped Defeat Sludge Villain Alongside All-Might!" On the picture was him back flipping away from the sludge villain as the so-called "All-Might" was in the process punching the thug. There was also a subtitle that said: Spider vigilante flees from scene, claiming: "Us spider folk don't usually get along with authorities very well." So with that, Miles decided that swinging around in his suit would probably attract some unwanted attention.
Over the next five months, Miles had been taking online courses above his grade, since he found his grade level too easy and learned how to speak Japanese without a translator in his ear. Miles had also gone to the gym daily to keep himself busy, he even managed to make friends with the gym owner, who was literally made out of bricks.
One night, Miles was in his room at the tavern and scrolling through his phone, looking at old photos. "I miss you dad, uncle, Peter(s), I miss you all…" Miles had barely been able to get any sleep after he fell through the portal, not being able to shake the thought of him not being able to go back to everything he knew and often couldn't sleep. Miles fell down back on his bed and stared at the ceiling. Tonight was going to be a long one.
The next morning, Miles was doing his usual morning duties when he heard some chatter from some of the customers. "I heard the cutoff for U.A. high school is 60 This year. Whoever gets in will be extremely lucky!"
'Well, I do need to go to school soon and that sounds like a good one, if their expressions are anything to go by.' Miles thought. So once his shift was over, the brunette got on his computer and checked out the website for U.A. "Might as well enroll." Miles said to himself and went through the hour-long process of filling out paperwork and mailing it to the school staff.
For four months Miles tested his limits daily and trained until he felt like falling over, hearing how hard it was to pass the entrance exam and keep up with the other students. For the last month he let himself rest so his body was ready for the exam. He also decided to get a new haircut, which included two cornrows on the sides of his head so he had a mohawk down the center. And soon, it was exam day. The website said support gear is allowed, so Miles brought his web shooters so he could get around easier along with a few extra cartridges of web fluid in case he had to refill. With his increased strength due to training and growth, Miles managed to get to U.A. in a few minutes, with it being about ten miles away. The young spider felt great when he was swinging through the air. He forgot about his home dimension for a few minutes, forgot about his intense sleep deprivation, and just thought about the wind brushing his face and swinging towards his goal. But once he touched ground again, everything came back, and his eyes darkened in sadness once again, like they had been for ten months.
Miles went into a large building and went to his assigned seat, coincidentally right next to the two boys he had saved. The man giving a speech about the rules was trying to get a response from the crowd, but was failing miserably. Miles almost felt bad for him. Then, a blue haired boy went on a rant that he hardly paid any attention too, but picked up enough info about the fourth villain to understand the concept.
"Now. Let's all do our best okay!?" The blonde nearly yelled.
Silence…
Once that situation was over, all of the students headed over to their respective battle grounds. The starting alarm rang and Miles took the opportunity to jump over all of the others in a single bound, without webs. Every robot he encountered he dealt with quickly and efficiently, not touching the concrete ground once. "Woooo!" Miles shouted as he crashed through two bots at once. "This is awesome!" He decided to keep his electricity and invisibility hidden for now and he continued to trash all of the bots he came across.
But then, what he had been dreading for the entirety of his stay, decided to come along at the worst possible moment. "Aarggh!" He cried out as his body glitched. It felt like he was being torn apart and put back together again. Was this what everyone else felt in his dimension? Miles landed roughly on the ground, continuing to glitch uncontrollably. Why was this taking so long? A surge of energy suddenly ran through him and the glitching stopped, Miles looking up to see an electric blonde.
Denki Kaminari thought he was the only one on the street of the fake city, but he was proven wrong at the sound of a shout from above. A shout of pain. Kaminari looked up to see a brown-skinned boy falling from the sky and he rushed over to the fallen boy. The other contestant was screaming in pain, and Kaminari was in a panic, the other teens body parts seemed to be glitching in some weird way, and the blonde was unsure of what to do.
Without thinking, Denkis body and quirk seemed to move on their own, bringing a bolt of electricity down on the brunette. The boy seemed to recover, Denki offering him a hand to the brown-eyed boy, who kindly accepted. "I guess I owe you one." He said, his voice strained. "What's your name?"
"Denki Kaminari!" The blonde replied. "What was that just now?"
"It can happen sometimes. It's a side effect of my, er, quirk?" He explained. "My name is Miles Morales."
"Good to know!" Denki replied. "Now we should both keep destroying bots. See you on the first day!" And they both ran off in their separate directions, both feeling more confident than before.
All of the U.A. staff were on the edges of their seats once they saw a kid fall from the air, shouting in pain. "Nezu. Is this a quirk malfunction? Should we send someone out?" Vlad asked hurriedly, referring to Morales' glitching. The principal had already pulled up the boys file, skimming it through. "Unfortunately, according to Morales, this seems to be quite normal. The episodes can occur seemingly at any time, without warning or provocation." An electric blonde had approached the glitching contestant, looking panicked for a few seconds, before hitting the brunette with a bolt of electricity. Morales recovered quickly, the two boys exchanging a few words before splitting ways. "That could have gone very wrong." Nezu commented, looking down at the file, a contemplative look in his face.
Miles Morales had long since stopped counting his points by the time he heard the earth rumble beneath him, hearing shouting from the center of the testing grounds. He then saw a massive green robot rise from the ground, where he heard said shouting. "Holy- That must be the fourth faux villain! And judging by the size of that thing, someone could be in danger!" Miles swung to that area as fast as possible and saw it quickly catching up to the rest of the examinees. The spider boy found the sturdiest building in sight, took off his shoes, and had his feet stick to the wall. He then shot his webs to its neck and pulled as hard as he could, managing to topple the large robot. He then proceeded to jump at it, smashing its head in as he landed on it. Miles had made sure none of the other examinees had been caught underneath it, and also made sure no one was hurt by running around the bot, searching for anyone who might have been injured. Luckily, that was not the case. A few minutes later, an elderly woman came to the scene and found anyone who had sustained any injuries from beforehand and healed them.
Miles once returned back to the tavern and continued his evening work, the rush of swinging through the city soon faded away and he was left thinking about the people in his home dimension. "Mr. Shima?" Miles said as he turned to the owner of the tavern.
"Yes Miles?" He asked and approached the dark-skinned boy.
"Can I take break early? I would like to do something." Miles explained.
"Of course my boy!" He said. "You've done more than your share of work for as long as you've stayed here. Go on and do what you will!" Miles smiled and thanked him. For a tavern owner, he was always keeping his drinking in check and was a happy man in general, but knew how to take out customers who caused too much of a ruckus. Miles went up to his room and collected the handful of small rocks that each had a name of a friend or loved one on it. He went to the beach and looked for a suitable tree. Once he did, he dug small holes around the high-riding roots and put a rock in each of them, then covered them up.
"Well, I hope you guys are proud of me. Wherever you are out there." Miles said, looking up at the treetop. "I tried out for U.A. academy, It's supposedly a really good school." Miles looked down to the trunk, putting a hand on the rough surface. "But anyway. If I see you again, it probably won't be for a long while." A passerby seemed to hear him and put a sympathetic hand on his shoulder. Miles turned and the man gave him a sad, knowing look. He was tall and extremely thin, with blonde hair and two locks on the sides of his head. Miles smiled at him and the man left, leaving the boy to his thoughts.
Yagi Toshinori was walking along the coast, looking at the beach Midiorya had cleaned and heard a voice that stuck out to him. "Well, I hope you guys are proud of me. Wherever you are out there." The voice said and he turned to see that Morales kid from the entrance exam. By the way the boy was talking, Toshinori could only assume the ones he was speaking to were his passed loved ones. "I tried out for U.A. academy, It's supposedly a really good school. But anyways. If I see you again, it probably won't be for a long while." Morales said and Toshinori put a comforting hand on the young boy's shoulder. He turned and smiled, but Yagi could tell it was strained, so he continued his walk and left the boy to himself.
Miles left the tree as it got dark and headed back to the tavern, ready for another night of very little sleep. For about the next week, it stayed pretty much the same until a letter from U.A. came. Miles opened it and a projection showed a few key moments in the exam as well as him and that Kaminari kid, which showed the blonde shocking him with his quirk. The scores soon came up, and Miles was more than surprised to say the least when he found himself in a close first. The so-called All-Might was dressed in a yellow pinstripe suit on the projection, enthusiastically inviting him to U.A.
