A/n, I've had this fic in my head for a while. I love Chimney but I don't love some of his actions surrounding when Maddie left to get help. I especially don't like him punching Buck and basically getting away with it Scott-free. So here's my fix for it. Don't worry, he's not a villain in this, just needing to realize there are consequences for his actions. It's been a while since I watched it, so I apologize if Jee-Yun is not in fact with him. It works better for me to have her with him. I don't know if Bobby and Athena would stop by Buck's but for the sake of the story, they do. Enjoy.

"Isn't that Chim's car?" Athena asked as she and Bobby pulled up in front of Buck's place. Bobby hummed in agreement.

"Maybe he brought Jee to see him?" Bobby suggested. Nodding in agreement Athena got out and followed bobby to the door. Before they could knock the door opened, revealing an angry Chimney. Bobby started to smile at Jee-Yun in her car seat but caught a glimpse of Buck walking towards them out of the corner of his eye and frowned at the fresh bruise forming on his face. Athena saw it to if her gasp was any indication.

"Buck, baby? Who hit you what happened?" she asked as she tried to move forward aware that Chimney had frozen in the doorway. Buck gulped but refused to answer.

"It's no big deal, Athena," he argued.

"The hell it's not. Who hit you Evan?" she asked firmly. The use of his first name made Buck flinch and involuntarily look at Chimney before letting his gaze drop to the floor. Bobby frowned when he realized what Buck had silently admitted.

"Chimney! Did you hit him?" Bobby demanded.

"Yeah, I did," Chimney reluctantly admitted. "It was an accident, though. He knew that Maddie was leaving and he didn't tell me!" Chimney shouted.

"It wasn't my place to do so!" "I told you that already!" Buck shouted back. Jee-Yun began to cry from all the yelling. Athena put her fingers in her mouth and let out a short whistle. Everyone fell silent.

"First of all, we shouldn't give your neighbors a show. Can we all go inside?" Nodding Chimney moved back into the apartment allowing Bobby and Athena to follow him in. "Secondly, Chim, Buck had every right to keep Maddie's confidence. I know you're her boyfriend and her child's father, but if Hen had asked you to keep something in confidence would you?" Chimney frowned but finally nodded.

"Yeah, I would," he answered. Athena nodded in satisfaction.

"You do know that violence doesn't solve anything?" she checked. He nodded and tried to catch Buck's eye but he wouldn't look at him.

"Do you even have a plan?" Bobby wondered.

"I'm going to go look for her," the paramedic answered.

"What about Jee?" Bobby asked in concern.

"I was planning on taking her with me," Chim admitted. Athena rolled her eyes.

"Well you can just forget that plan," she told him.

"What? Why?" he squawked indignantly.

"Because you're under arrest for assault and potential child endangerment," Athena said as she stood up and pulled her handcuffs off her belt.

"Athena, no!" Buck cried. "I don't want to press charges," he argued. "He's angry and worried about Maddie. It's not that big a deal."

"It is most certainly a big deal," Athena declared. "Well, someone can press them on your behalf, and from where I'm standing Bobby has no problem doing that, do you, Bobby?"

"No, I don't," Bobby answered gruffly.

"Hey, wait a minute? What about Jee? I didn't mean to Hit Buck, I swear. Athena, please…" He could feel the rest of his world crumbling around him. "Why possible child endangerment?" he wondered as he gripped Jee's car seat tighter.

"Jee could have been hurt if Buck had retaliated and hit you back or pushed you," she explained. Chimney started to cry how had he fucked things up so badly. Athena felt bad for him, but no one was going to hurt her baby even if he was going through shit.

"Buck, will you take Jee, please?" Moving slowly clearly afraid Chimney might lash out Buck gently took the car seat and pulled Jee out and began rocking her back and forth.

"I know you're pissed at me right now, but I swear to you I'll keep her safe and take good care of her, Chim," Buck vowed as he placed a gentle kiss on the babies cheek.

"I know you will," Chimney replied. "I never doubted that for a second."

"I don't like to do this, but I think it's time you learn you're actions have consequences," Athena stated as she made her way to Chimney. "Turn around and put your hands behind your back," the officer instructed. Nodding Chimney did what he was told. Athena read him his rights as she fastened the cuffs around his wrists. Just then her phone alerted her to a message. The officer she had requested as back up had arrived.

"Come on Athena, please don't do this. I know he's sorry," Buck begged as he watched her escort Chimney out the door and into the back of the cruiser careful to protect his head.

"Sorry isn't enough this time," she responded.

"Head to the station and I'll be there soon to figure out what exactly we're doing," she informed the officer.

"Yes Sergeant," he answered climbing into the car and heading off leaving a ton of devastation in his wake.

Back in Buck's apartment the only sound that could be heard were the soft snores of Jee as she slept.

"Are you really going to press charges, Bobby?" Buck wondered.

"If you want me to, I will. Even if I don't press charges there will be consequences for his actions."

"Like what?" Buck asked.

"Well, before he can go look for Maddie I'm going to require that he go to therapy. If he won't go on his own I will not hesitate to go to a judge and get it court-mandated if necessary. Then while he goes to find Maddie if she's not back before he's done with his required five sessions we will work out keeping Jee-Yun so he can go find Maddie without dragging her all over god's green earth," Bobby explained.

"If you press charges you would be ending his career. Please do the second option, Bobby, please." Buck was practically begging as he started to cry.

"Okay, for your sake, I won't press charges. However, there will be some other things he will be required to do before he can return if he chooses to return to the 118, but I will discuss them with him," Bobby told him.

"Thank you so much, Bobby," Buck said walking over and hugging the older man.

"You're welcome, kid. Athena and I love you and hate to see you hurting no matter the cause. Buck gave a small smile. Turning to Athena, he said

"So are you going to call the officer and tell him to let Chimney go?" She shook her head.

"No, I think it will be good for him to sit in holding for a bit to think about what he did and how far reaching the consequences are." Buck sighed but he knew that when Athena had that look in her eye there was no way to convince her otherwise. Nodding in reluctance he gave a small smile before sinking on to his couch clearly exhausted.

"Maybe you should call Eddie and see if he can come over and help out tonight?" Bobby suggested. Buck smiled at Eddie's name he and Chris were supposed to come over for a rare movie night at Buck's. Normally they had them at Eddie's but Buck had a movie channel Eddie didn't and the movie Chris wanted to see was on that channel so it was happening their.

"He and Chris will be over after he gets off work. We already had it planned. We'll be fine until they get here," he assured.

"If your sure, kid?" Bobby checked. Buck nodded and smiled at Jee-Yun sleeping peacefully in her pack-n-play.

"Okay, you'll call if you need anything?" Athena checked as she pulled him into a hug.

"Yes, Mama, I will. I promise," he said returning her hug.

"Thanks for not pressing charges, Pops," he said turning to Bobby and hugging him again.

"You're welcome, we love you, son." Smiling slightly Buck watched them walk out and head towards Athena's car. Walking back inside he sank on to the couch not having any clue how he would handle the time on his own until Eddie and Chris got there, but he knew he would figure something out.

Chimney rubbed his aching hand as he stared solemnly into space. He was sitting on the bunk in a holding cell. How in the world had things gotten so bad? How had Maddie felt like she couldn't come to him and tell him what happened with Jee and how bad her depression had gotten? He knew it was bad, but he didn't realize just how bad. It was his fault for not reaching out during the blackout more. He tried, but he should have put more effort into it. As for what happened with Buck? He knew he screwed up. He should have never punched Buck. He knew that his bond with Maddie was extremely close and he knew that even though she was his girlfriend the bond between her and Buck was on another level. He just wished he could figure out how to fix the mess he'd created. Just then the cell door opened and the officer who had brought him in was standing there.

"Come with me," he instructed. Nodding Chimney got to his feet and after holding out his hands so they could be cuffed again he was led out of the cell and down the hall. They stopped at one of the interrogation rooms and he was led to the table and guided into a chair. Looking up he saw Athena across from him.

"Thank you officer, you can uncuff him. He won't harm me," she instructed.

"Are you sure, Sergeant?" the officer checked. Athena nodded briskly. Walking forward the officer uncuffed Chimney causing him to rub his wrists and let his hands fall to his lap. The two officers exchanged a look before the other officer exited the room closing the door behind him. Taking a seat across the table Athena folded her hands and stared at him letting the silence fill the room. She knew if she was patient Chim would break it.

"So what am I being charged with?" he asked. Athena sighed in resignation.

"You're not being charged with anything, Buck convinced Bobby not to charge you. That doesn't mean there won't be consequences, however."

"Like what?" he wondered.

"Well for starters we're going to have a talk then I'm releasing you into Bobby's custody. You guys are going to have a long talk and he has some requirements you will need to complete."

"Okay, can you tell me what those are?"

"I'll let him do that, but what I will tell you is that when you do go look for Maddie Jee-Yun will not be going with you." He started to open his mouth to protest but Athena cut him off. "Think about it Chim, what kind of life would it be for her to be constantly in a car seat dragged all across the country while you're searching for Maddie? Is that what you want to subject her to?" she asked gently.

"No, you're right, but what if she forgets me?" he questioned brokenly.

"We will make sure to have video calls with you and we will try and reach out to Maddie as well. Buck didn't seem to know exactly where she was going but if she gets in touch then we will make sure to let her know that Jee is safe."

"Thank you, I know I screwed up, but she's had me out of my mind with worry. I know that's no excuse but I feel so lost. I didn't know things had gotten as bad as they had," Chimney admitted.

"What happened between you and Buck anyway?"

"I had got a letter from my insurance company regarding an ER trip for Jee," he began. Athena gasped in surprise. "She's fine," Chim was quick to assure her.

"Oh thank goodness," Athena breathed.

"Anyway apparently Maddie was giving her bath during the blackout and she was so exhausted she fell asleep for a moment or two and Jee slipped under the water. Maddie panicked and took her to the ER to get checked out. The doctor told her she was fine, but I guess that was the final straw. I went to Buck's to tell him about the ER visit and I found out that he knew. That's when I found Maddie had called him and told him she was leaving. Then I just lost it," Chim explained quietly.

"So she called him to tell him she was leaving because why?" Athena asked. She knew why and she hoped Chimney would figure it out.

"Because she promised him she wouldn't leave him behind again. She told me about how hard it was when she left with Doug and how he begged her to come with him but she refused. I screwed up so bad, can I fix this?" he asked as he dropped his head into his hands then winced in pain as his head touched his injured hand.

"Yes, but it's going to take time and a lot of work on your part. First, let me see your hand, though," Athena requested. Chimney held out his hand and let her look at it.

"I don't think it's broken," the paramedic stated. Athena nodded her head in agreement.

"No, it just looks bruised. Put some ice on it and it will be fine. Chim nodded as he stared down at his bruised nuckles.

"Can I go now?"

"Yes, Bobby's just outside. I will walk you out and get released to Bobby."

"Thank you, Athena," Chim said.

"Don't thank me yet, you have a long way to go. And Chim?"

"Hmm?"

"If you think Bobby and I are pissed wait until Eddie hears about this." Chimney gulped he knew once Eddie heard what happened he'd be lucky to still be alive.

A/n, more to come. I'm trying not to villainize Chimney, just making him accept that actions have consequences. Please feel free to leave a review if you want.
