Chapter 1
Marianas pov
As I was attempting to walk home from the festival my vision was spinning. Everything was in slow motion. The pills began to set in and at first it felt relaxing. Was this what it felt like to die? If so it was peaceful and I didn't mind maybe dying on the side of the road. I knew my entire family was looking for me since they knew nick was here but I didn't care. I just wanted to be gone. Moms and my siblings would be devastated but I've felt like this forever. As I continued to walk I reached the bridge and knew I only had 5 more minutes till I reached home. Suddenly a figured appeared from around the corner and my worst fear came true. Nick. "Mariana please just talk to me I need you". He began to plead with me. The drugs were setting in faster and I knew something was wrong. I quickly pulled out my phone to call Jesus. He didn't answer and nick began to become more and more agitated. My next best option was Callie.
Callie's pov
As I was driving around with Aaron looking for Mariana my phone suddenly began to ring. The name Mariana flashed across my screen. "Hello" I quickly answered. "Callie's it me, nicks here we are under the bridge". Her words sounded slurred and my soul was crushed with a horrible feeling. "Aaron go to the bridge now!" I yelled. What felt like an eternity but was really only 5 minutes and we finally reached the bridge. Nick was pushing Mariana around and she was stumbling very obviously affected by the pills she took. "Hey get your fucking hands off of her" I screamed. I sprinted towards the two of them when nick suddenly let go of Mariana and looked straight into my soul. There wasn't a person behind his eyes. "Get the fuck out of here". He quietly said. "Mariana let's go Aaron is driving us home" I said as I went to grab her hand. Next thing I know nick pushes me roughly and punches me in the side of my head and once to the back. I fell to the ground and was instantly seeing stars. Something wasn't right. I tried to sit up but my body collapsed under its own weight. I began to panic but when I tried to speak nothing came out. Aaron and Mariana entered my central vision but I was having trouble focusing on them. "Hey what the hell is going on. Oh my god Callie are you ok. Hey I'm right here I'm right here Callie an ambulance is coming just stay with me for 5 minutes". I heard someone yell and I felt someone holding my shoulder. Stef? I thought to myself. Whoever this person was was slightly out of my central vision and I couldn't see them. Suddenly she looked me right in the eyes and I saw Lena. "Mama" I somehow choked out. "Shh shh don't talk baby moms coming too". She said. Lena tightly held my hand but it didn't feel like it normally did. My body still has this horrible feeling that it was heavy. It was almost as though my whole entire body was asleep. When I went to squeeze her hand back my body erupted into a horrible pain and I could no longer see. Was I dying? What was happening?
Lena's pov
As I was running around the festival and the side roads looking for Mariana my phone rang. Unknown number. My worst fear set in. What if it was the hospital. I ever so slowly answered and before I could even say hello I was interrupted by the other person on the phone. "Lena it's Aaron Callie is hurt! We are under the bridge behind the festival. We have Mariana with us and nick is here. Please get here quick an ambulance is on the way!" My heart dropped. Why would Callie be hurt? Did nick hurt her? My mind raced with a million questions and right now my focus was on reaching the bridge. I was luckily only 1 minute from the bridge and I began sprinting full speed to now see my worst fear ahead of me. Callie was lying on the ground with Mariana and Aaron sitting beside her holding each one of her hands. Nick was sitting with his head between his legs rocking back and fourth. What had happened. I took Aaron's spot and grabbed onto Callie's hand which felt limp. She didn't even notice me and I moved closer to her and she choked out the words mama. Okay. Okay. She was okay for now. Suddenly her body tensed up, spit began to form in her mouth and she started seizing. "Shit, fucking shit" I screamed aloud. Where the hell is that ambulance. At this point it has been 2 minutes and she was still seizing. What was happening to my daughter. The ambulance finally arrived and though Callie's seizure had died down she was shaking and began choking on her own spit. I watched as the paramedics began starting IVs and suctioning the spit out of her mouth. She was loaded into the ambulance and I jumped in behind her asking Aaron to take Mariana to the hospital to get checked out herself and to please call stef to let her know what was going on. I looked back a final time and saw nick being placed into the squad car in handcuffs. Our family was safe for now but I couldn't take my eyes of my daughter lying on the stretcher 2 feet away from me. Callie remained silent throughout ride except an occasional cough from her spit still foaming in her mouth. "Cal I can't lose you please stay with us" I said aloud and the paramedic in the back gave me a sympathetic look but nothing in this moment was going to make me feel better. As we pulled into the ambulance bay at the hospital Callie began seizing again and the worst crossed my mind. Another seizure? How was she ever going to recover from this. Would she be different for ever. Seizures are not something to play with and as I looked as the paramedic I saw a look of concern cross his face. We arrived at the hospital and she was taken into the room where the nurse stopped me. "Ma'am you are not allowed to come back here she is in good hands I promise". "She is my daughter and I am going back there". I screamed as I pushed my way through. Callie will still seizing. It has been 5 minutes at this point. When would this end. Next thing I know they are intubating her and pumping her full of medications. I saw her body slowly stop seizing and I felt a sense of relieve. Then I realized her eyes were closed and the monitor began to beep rapidly and suddenly stop. "She's in a-systole ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to leave". The nurse said and security began removing me. I glanced into the window and saw the team doing cpr on my daughter. Was this the last I was going to see of her?
