Papa smiled at the new smurf. He didn't miss the way Smurfette's eyes narrowed slightly and how her eyebrows furrowed. The new smurf introduced himself, "Hello, papa! I am Excité."
"Ah well welcome to smurf village! I have to say.. we've never heard a name like that before. What is it?" Papa slowly shifted in front of Smurfette as she started wringing her hands. He did not appreciate how the new Smurf's eyes traced his daughter's body.
"Oh, it's French!" The smurf leaned forward slightly, and papa clapped his hands as Smurfette slid further behind him.
"Great! Well, make yourself at home."
He turned and ushered Smurfette away and back to his house. He didn't want to leave her alone right now. Once they entered, Willow nodded at them from where she sat on the couch. She sat up against the sofa, so she was in the middle seat, "welcome back! I must thank Coco for the book recommendation. Remind me, dear?"
Smurfette nodded, sitting beside her, and Willow gasped as she leaned entirely against her, "dear? Is everything ok?"
Smurfette hummed in response, and papa sat on the other side. She looked at him, concerned as he pressed a finger to his temple. Smurfette spoke up, "papa… I never say this- and I have never said this once before-… but… I don't… I don't trust that new smurf."
Willow barely suppressed her gasp of shock. However, she did, only because of the guilty look on Smurfette's face and the tight hold she now had on her hand. Papa nodded, "I… I hate to agree, but I feel the same Smurfette."
Smurfette leaned back against the couch "….I would feel better if Coco were here… maybe…. He creeps me out."
Willow furrowed her brows, suddenly glad she managed to keep the rest of the girls at the grove today. She turned to papa, who swallowed, "Smurfette dear will you go upstairs and see if you have the necessary things to stay the night tonight? I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable with you alone while that new smurf is here."
Smurfette nodded and went upstairs as willow looked to papa. He sighed and leaned back against the sofa.
Willow watched Smurfette disappear upstairs and turned back to Papa. He sighed, and she set her book on the coffee table, turning towards him, "what's going on, papa~thing?"
He sighed and turned to look at her. They sat like that for a few minutes, just looking at each other. He finally spoke, clearing his throat, "there's a new smurf."
She nods as he turns his head to look at the fireplace. She ducked her head down to catch his gaze "got that much~."
She tried to joke but turned serious as he continued staring. She scooted closer to him, resting a hand on his shoulder "papa~smurf… what happened?"
"He… the new smurf… his name means something. I'm sure of it. I have no clue what… but I'm almost positive it does."
She nods, "ok…?…. That's not all, is it?"
"Willow… he ogled her. He looked at her like she was nothing but a piece of meat or a prize to be won… I don't trust him. I don't trust him at all."
She nods and rubs his back, "What do… what do you suppose we do?"
He looks at her, and she smiles softly, "yes, I said we, you're not doing this alone papa~thing."
He smiles at her and leans back, "I… honestly have no clue.."
"Then we will do this together."
He nods, and they make their way upstairs to find Smurfette.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Smurfette knew this feeling. Well knew of this feeling. She could count her blessings that she had never been subjected to it in the human world. Coco, Samuel, Raphael, and Sodapop did well at protecting her from it. However, Coco was not as lucky. She explained it to Smurfette during late-night talks where Smurfette wanted to know about the human world.
"It…. It's awful, sis. The human world has its ups, sure! But… there are too many downs… Creeps. There are creeps… they…. They look at you like you're just a piece of meat. They take advantage of you. They pick you out. They come into the damn school building when you're in second grade. And. Pick. You. Out…" Coco shivered slightly as she recalled the stories. Smurfette watched as she closed her eyes and straightened her back, "That's why I help the SVU. They give a voice, they… they help arrest the creeps. They put them away… Smurfette, I truly hope you never know the feeling… or worse, I hope you don't experience it only to learn at a later day what it truly was.."*
Smurfette could only imagine what that felt like. Until now. She had no clue why but this new smurf just gave her all the wrong vibes. She stuck as close to Papa as possible, all but hiding in his shadow. She could feel the new smurfs eyes on her and suddenly knew the feeling Coco was talking about. The smurf introduced himself, and the French name sounded eerily familiar, but she couldn't place her finger on it. As he attempted to slide around Papa to look at her, she slid further behind him. She was grateful Papa cut the meeting short. Arriving at his mushroom, she was just thankful to have walls surrounding her. She collapsed next to Willow, anything to provide more and more barriers from him. She heard the gasp of surprise, and she understood it as she rarely just completely leaned against her except for after nightmares. However, she still placed her hand in Smurfette's, so she counted her blessings. Even as the words left her mouth, she felt guilty. Like she did something wrong. She was grateful when Papa let her stay the night. She didn't know if she could handle being alone that night. Going upstairs, she avoided any window. As she sat at the edge of Papa and Willows bed, she stared off into space, recalling the conversation from years ago with Coco. A piece of meat. A piece of meat… That was all she was to him. A piece of meat, a prize to be won. She let the disgusting show on her face as she rubbed at her arms, a nervous habit she picked up when young and one she couldn't break. She suddenly felt gross. Her train of thought got cut off as Papa and Willow suddenly sat beside her on the bed. She jumped, pressing a hand to her chest and gripping the edge of her dress with the other. She closed her eyes, willing her heart rate to slow down. Damn that new smurf and him putting her off ease in her own hometown.
~~~~~~
Papa felt the worry show on his face as Smurfette jumped, panic in her eyes and a tenseness in her body language that wasn't there unless it was a nightmare or run-in with Gargamel. As she steadied her breathing, he spoke softly, "Dear… Are you alright?"
She nodded, and he could see the fear still on her face. Willow gave him a concerned look. Before any of them could speak, Smurfette spoke, "You know… I never… I never knew what Coco was talking about."
Papa furrowed his brows, "what do you mean?"
Smurfette rubbed at her arms and tilted her head, looking off to the side, "I never truly knew what she meant. When she said how it felt…. To be stared at… like you're just a piece of meat. Granted, the boys stared- but never… never with that… intensity. At the end of the day, I know they wouldn't hurt me. But his look… I am just a piece of meat to him."
Papa felt the rage boil up again, not just at "Excité Smurf," but at those from Coco's past. Based on Willow's confused but rage-filled expression, he knew he would have to ask Coco at a later date if filling her in would be acceptable. Smurfette shrugged and continued. "I see now. Why Coco joined SVU. I didn't for a long time… I didn't understand why she wanted to put herself on the front line, expose herself to those who are unspeakably evil… It's… being on the receiving end is terrible… And he hasn't even done anything. I feel like this, and all he did was look at me… god… how… how do people do it… am I just wea-"
"Smurfette. No. You are not weak. You stop that train of thought right now. So help me I will- I will call Coco, and she can lecture you- Dear you are not weak, You have every right to feel uncomfortable. What he did was disgusting, yes he didn't touch you, but that still does not make it right. If it was someone else feeling this way, how would you react?" Papa gently held her face in his hand as she let his words process.
"I… I would be mad at whoever did this…." Smurfette looked down slightly.
"Exactly, you are valid for feeling this way." Papa relaxed against his spot, and Smurfette nodded. She sat silent for a while, staring at her feet. Willow was worried perhaps she was intruding, but Smurfette blindly reached for her hand, and she smiled softly as Smurfette held her hand. Smurfette furrowed her brows,
"I… I don't want to be alone."
Willow nodded and carefully tucked a strand of hair behind Smurfette's ear, "You won't be dear, Papa will be here, and I'll be here-"
"I… I don't wanna force you to abandon your-" Smurfette interrupted willow then was interrupted herself by Willow.
"I will not be abandoning anyone. My village is very capable, besides I never said you couldn't come with me while I check-in on everyone. I'm abandoning no one. Especially not you, dear." Willow assured Smurfette and smiled softly at the nod she got in return.
Smurfette blinked her eyes as a yawn tore from her throat, she rubbed at her eyes, and Papa stood up, helping her up, "Come on dear, it's been a long day."
She nodded, rubbing at the fabric around herself with disdain, Papa ever-vigilant noticed. "Smurfette, dear?"
She shrugged as she glared down at the fabric, "I… It feels dirty. Not like- not dirty. But dirty… the only other clothes I have are my day clothes-"
He nods and grabs an old sweatshirt of his from the human world and some pajama pants out from his dresser. He hands them to her, and she hugs him tight. He rubbed her back as she took a few shuddering breaths. "Hey, hey… It's ok dear, it's ok… Papa's here…."
Willow rubbed her back as well until she regained her composure. Smurfette changed quickly in the bathroom and made her way downstairs with a blanket and pillow. Papa now sat on the bed in deep thought. Willow slid in beside him resting her head on his shoulder. He hummed and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. She tilted her head as his phone buzzed. He smiled softly. She had one too. However, she still had no clue how to use hers, opting for the books Coco sent instead. He sent a reply to a message and pulled Willow down under the covers with him. She inhaled as he held her to his chest. She snuggled closer. Willow smiled softly as he began playing with her hair. She spoke up after a few minutes, "So… What… What are we going to do?"
He sighs and shrugs, continuing to play with her hair, "I… I truly don't know Willow… This has understandably shaken her up... And I hate to say it, but I. I don't know if that smurf is who he says he is."
He didn't outright say his thought process, but Willow, ever intelligent, caught on and gasped, "You think he's an imposter… But who? Gargamel?"
Papa shakes his head, "No... I don't think even he would be so twisted as to ogle his… yeah. If anything, he would come on to me-"
Willow couldn't help the snort that escaped her, and he chuckled as well. She pulled him close, "Oh, that would be the day, huh papa~."
He nods, "Truly… however, whoever he is… I don't believe he is a smurf… My only thoughts for him coming onto Smurfette, besides him being a genuinely repulsive being, is that he wants the smurf formula."
Willow furrowed her brows, "Smurf… Formula?"
Papa booped her nose gently and kissed her forehead, "How do you think I turned Smurfette blue? Or how she- well Gargamel but- turned Vexy and Haggis blue?"
She nods, leaning against him, eyelids drooping. He holds her close, taking a deep breath. She hummed, "It'll be ok, papa~thing…."
He nods, "I know Willow, I know…."
"Love you~."
"I love you too, my darling~."
~~~~~~~
A broken scream woke them up. Papa got out of bed first, stumbling down the stairs, WIllow close on his heels. They stumbled to a stop to find the doorknob jiggling and Smurfette shaking. Papa double-checked that the deadbolt was locked and rushed to pull the curtains shut. Willow crouched in front of Smurfette and followed her gaze. There was a letter slid under the door. She looked to Papa, and he picked it up with disgust. Smurfette whipped around, and Willow gasped as a figure of a smurf was seen peaking in through the window. They couldn't see his face, but they could tell it was a male. Seeing he'd been caught, he rushed away from the window as Papa slammed the curtains shut. Smurfette shuddered and rubbed at her arms. Willow sat in front of her with her hands on Smurfette's shoulders. "Hey… Smurfette, are you alright?"
Smurfette shook her head and swallowed, "I… At first, I simply had a nightmare, Gargamel coming back... Not one of my bad ones. But it still woke me up. I can handle that nightmare… I thought I felt eyes on me, so I looked out the window… he was staring at me… it… ew."
Willow rubbed her shoulders as Smurfette shook her head. Papa nodded, "Come on, dear, you're going to sleep upstairs. I will sleep downstairs if you would be more comfortable, I will even drag the couch upstairs, but I don't want you down here alone."
Willow nodded as Smurfette looked at her, "I… I don't wanna kick you or Willow out-"
Willow cut her off with a shake of her head, "I raised plenty of girls. Do you think I'm not used to an extra body or four in the bed after a nightmare? If you are comfortable with papa and me, you are welcome to be there."
Papa nodded, and Smurfette sighed, "P-Please? I… I don't want to stay down here…."
Willow nodded and helped Smurfette stand up. The three made their way upstairs, and Smurfette situated herself in the middle. Papa chuckled as he laid down. Willow wrapped her arms around both of them. Smurfette nestled down into the covers, mumbling, "This reminds me of vacations in the human world."
Papa chuckled, "It does, doesn't it… Good night girls, I love you."
Willow kissed Smurfettes forehead then leaned over to kiss Papa, "Love you too Papa~thing, Goodnight Smurfette dear I love you."
Smurfette smiled, "Good night Papa, Good night mama, I love you both."
The three then drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week had passed with Smurfette narrowly avoiding Excité. She was even more thankful for Coco's involvement in helping Vexy and Haggis as she walked back to Papa's house late at night. She bit her bottom lip. She didn't mean for it to get so dark, but she lost track of time. As she walked in the chill night air, she flinched, hearing heavy footsteps behind her. She whipped around and backed against Papa's mushroom. She released a sigh as a passing smurf barely acknowledged her and walked past her. She was fine, and she was safe. She went to open the door, but a hand wrapped around her mouth, an arm wrapped around her waist and arms. She let out a muffled scream as she was pulled against a body. She struggled against the hold and shuddered as a voice whispered into her ear, "Relax doll~ I'm just going to have a little fun- ACK You bit me!"
Smurfette was thrown to the dirt beside the house, and she spat on the floor glaring up at Excité. He wiped his hand off on his pants, growling, "You'll regret that~."
"You'll regret that. If you leave now, I'll make sure Papa goes easy on you-" Smurfette attempted to placate the smurf. She edged closer to the door.
"Please! Papa won't care a bit! He's the one who told me to make myself at home~" Excité edged closer to Smurfette.
She got up and rushed to the door. He grabbed her waist, tearing the ends of her dress in the scuffle. She kicked at him and smiled viciously as he gave a groan and toppled slightly. He grabbed the back of her hair and slammed her head down into the dirt, "You bitch!"
She turned and clawed his face, he grumbled in pain, and she rushed to the door slamming her body against it. Excité huffed as he grabbed her waist attempted to pull her back into the shadows. However, the door opened, and Smurfette grabbed Willow's hand. She gave a relieved sigh as she clung to Willow, burying her head into her shoulder.
~~~~~
Willow gasped in surprise as Smurfette clambered in through the newly opened door and fell into her arms. She held Smurfette as she scrunched herself far into her arms, burying her face in her shoulder. Willow led Smurfette over to the couch and sat beside her as she curled into a ball. Willow stroked her hair, "honey…. Honey wha-... Your dress…"
Smurfette rubbed her arms, "We…. We need to call Coco to get DNA swabs… Whatever he is. Is. Not. A. Smurf."
Willow nodded and sent Coco a text. Swabs appeared a few seconds later, and she turned off her phone. Smurfette held out her hands as Willow swabbed under her nails. Willow watched as Smurfette blankly stared ahead. "Is… is that…."
Willow couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence. Couldn't bear to think that happened outside where she was staying. Luckily Smurfette nodded, "Yeah… I got to… I got to the door before he could… Bastard."
Willow didn't even flinch at the word. She was a few seconds away from calling him all sorts of names herself. She sat beside Smurfette and jumped up when she heard the door open. She stood protectively in front of the couch, grabbing her staff.
~~~~~
Papa furrowed his eyebrows as he opened the door to Willow standing in front of the couch, staff in hand, looking ready to kill. Willow relaxed upon seeing him putting her staff down. She rushed to him and pulled him inside, slamming and locking the door. Locking the deadbolt on it. He put a hand on her shoulder as she slumped against it. She took a breath and turned to him, cradling his face, "My love… You need to be prepared- and I need you to trust m,e when I say, while something happened, it isn't as bad as it looks. It was stopped before it got worse."
That was not reassuring to hear, but he nodded and followed her to the couch. He swallowed hard. Smurfette sat there blanket around her shoulders, blank look, dress torn, and dirt caking her hair and face. He barely restrained the urge to storm out when the door was knocked on. Smurfette jumped up wildly and darted into Willow's arms. He walked over to it as Willow pulled Smurfette to her chest and walked to the side. Excité's voice rang out, "Papa? Is Smurfette in there? I need to talk-"
Smurfette shook her head furiously, pressing further back into Willow's arms. Papa growled but nodded and opened the door slightly, keeping the deadbolt on, "no. Smurfette isn't here. What. Do. You. Need?"
"Shame~ When you see her let her know I need to talk~" He left.
Papa growled, "I. Am. Going. To. Kill. Him."
Willow nodded, rubbing Smurfette's back. She sniffled and reached for Papa, who placed his hand in hers. Papa rubbed Smurfettes forehead, "It's ok, dear… It'll be ok.."
She nodded, "I… I am safe with you two… Please… Don't leave me…."
"We won't." "Not ever again."
