Author notes:
Welcome to my therapy and distraction from life. I hope you enjoy the first fanfiction I've written since... like 2012? I never really committed to those, but this seems like as good a time as any. Currently working on a novel so I'm hoping to have updates for you for this story at least once a week, possibly more if I have time but between working on that and a needy 9-month-old it's not likely. Please be gentle with me, it's the first time in like ever that I'm putting my work out there again so constructive criticism is always welcome. Don't have any betas so it comes as it is and if I can I will go over and edit it later. If there is a major flaw, please feel free to point it out to me either in the comments or DM so I can correct it ASAP. None of our favorite angry boi in this chapter but he will come! I promise! Just enjoy the ride, it makes the reward so much sweeter! Characters are going to be aged up to 18+ as there will be some more explicit things eventually and I don't feel comfortable keeping them underage. With that, let's get to it! Please enjoy and let me know what you think, it will move a little slow in the beginning but I promise we will get there! This story is cross posted on Archive of our Own under the same username Wolfiegirl1 which is the same but a soft reader insert.
Chapter 1
It's gonna be a good day! Right?
Sometimes you wake up and just know that the day will turn out great. That was exactly how I felt this morning as my eyes fluttered open and I didn't feel the usual aches and pains that I usually did from sleeping on a shitty mattress. Today I felt refreshed and well rested as you lay in the quiet and dark room, only the whir of my air purifier gently humming and the purring of the sleeping weight on my back tickling my ears. Usually, I was awoken to a cacophony of birds and sunlight streaming into my face through the curtains. Today, from what I could see through the cracks, the normally blue sky was covered in thick grey clouds that blotted out the intrusive light and gave you a little extra rest. Shifting and rolling around under my sheets and plush duvet I reached out from my little cocoon and grabbed my phone from its charger, the little lump on my back rolling off with an annoyed meow. I quickly bundled back up as I looked at the time, grunting slightly as my cat made her way back on top of my warmth and started kneading the fabric above my shoulders. Squeezing and blinking my eyes a few times to get them to focus I noted that it was already seven forty, a full hour or so past when I normally had to get up. Today was Saturday though and my first day off in about two weeks so thankfully, I didn't have anywhere to be.
Normally I didn't work that many days in a row but with the lack of staff and my need for a bit of extra cash, I had been pulling more hours than I realistically should. Giving myself a few extra minutes of relaxation I stayed bundled in my little make-shift nest and checked my emails, noting a few new chapters up on some of my favorite fan fiction and making a mental note to read them later, before scrolling through Facebook for about twenty minutes. I let my sleep-fogged brain slowly whir to life, scrolling through the posts before deciding, more like being commanded by addiction, that coffee was the only solution to the problem. As I unwrapped yourself from the bedding, once again sending my cat rolling off of me, my body went into an automatic stretch. My arms reached out and back as my chest reached skyward. A pleasant pop reached your ears and had you pausing your movements. My lips part with a near moan as the nagging tension in my back that I've had for the last five days is finally released.
"Fuck, that was so good." I sighed and finished my stretches before finishing the shuffle out of the covers. Then the meowing started, urgent and repetitive, "Yes Cheshi, your food is coming spoiled girl." Feet hitting the floor I reached down and fished my little black bra from the floor, securing it to my naked chest before walking over to the closet to grab something to throw on. Fur slid and weaved in and out between my legs as I moved, Cheshire, urging me to move faster. Giving another quick glance to the window I grabbed a pair of black leggings, a black tank top, and a cream off-the-shoulder long cable knit sweater. 'May your clothes be comfy, your coffee strong, and your Saturdays long' I giggled to myself as I thought up a variation to a saying you once heard.
A particularly loud yowl from the grey and white ball of fluff weaving between my legs had me reaching down to pick the fluffy beast up off the floor. She purred as I scratched under her chin and behind her ears, carrying her to her cat tree in the corner of the room and depositing her on the top shelf so she could watch me put together her morning breakfast. Once I was done tending to the little monster, I made a quick stop in the bathroom to comb my long brown hair, brush my teeth, and apply a little eyeliner and mascara. Finished with the basics I grabbed my little mini black backpack, gave a farewell pat to the now occupied feline, and made my way out the bedroom door. Ensuring I locked my door behind me, I crept quietly past my psychotic roommates' door before sneaking out of our little two-bedroom apartment. Letting out a breath of relief at avoiding an early morning confrontation with the crazy woman I shared a house with, I turned my attention to your next task. Such a glorious morning deserved a coffee from my favorite cafe just down the street, so on I went.
Making my way down the sidewalk I hummed quietly to myself, enjoying the cool brisk breeze that caressed my face and hair. It had been so hot lately so this dreary day was actually quite the reprieve from the heat. As I walked in through the front of the doors to Love you a Latte I took a deep breath in, letting the caffeinated air soak into my very soul.
"Well, well. Long time no see Madds, did your boss finally undo your shackles or did you bust on out of that hell hole." Looking to the counter I saw Cheyenne staring at me from behind the register, already moving to make my order.
"Nah, neither. I took a reprieve for the day but I'm back at it tomorrow." The almond-skinned woman rolled her eyes as I raised my voice to be heard over the steaming wand. Looking around I noted that the cafe was empty at the moment. Odd for a Saturday but people weren't going out as much these days.
"Girl you need to take a break, when is the last time you had a vacation? Or more than one day off a week. We haven't been out since you got into a fight with that bartender about your drink and that was like three months ago!" My cheeks darkened as I thought back to that night. I had gotten both Cheyenne and myself kicked out of the club that night after having a few too many drinks and then getting into a minor disagreement with the bartender. Granted that minor disagreement ended up with the bartender having a broken nose.
Huffing, I looked at the perfect oat milk vanilla cappuccino that my friend set down in front of me, the little foam cat face dusted with cinnamon and smiling happily. "Not my fault she didn't know and old fashion from a Manhattan. If she just gave me what I asked for and didn't feel the need to take offense when I told her that only manhattans had Vermouth and not both then, well it might have got differently." Cheyenne just eyed me from her spot leaning against the bar, eyebrow raised as she paused in drying off the metallic pitcher. "Whatever, I told you I should have stopped at three shots but someone needed me to keep pace with them and have two more. You know I don't handle my liquor well."
Rolling her eyes she put her tools away as I took a sip from the drink, destroying her perfect foam creation, she scrunched her nose up at me. "Right well still, when are we going out next, I know not tonight since you never do when you have to work the next day so?" She drew out the last syllable as she waved her hand for me to continue where she left off. Sighing I rolled my own eyes and smiled wryly, "Next weekend I promise. I have Saturday and Sunday off since she would have some new help coming in tomorrow. Though I do have to make sure I get enough training in with them before the weekend." Cheyanne opened her mouth to no doubt give me some form of sass when the bell dinged signaling a new customer. Looking over my shoulder I could see a group of six businessmen walking in followed by a pair of joggers. Giving each other one last smile as the morning picked up for my friend I turned my nose down to my phone and went about catching up on your stories as I enjoyed the sweet beverage.
Sometime later I had finished my catch-up and just started to hunt for a new series to enjoy when one of the titles caught my eye. 'What the…' I read the blurb and something in my heart dropped, 'nope, nah that's a joke. They thought that last time and it was fine right?' Quickly my fingers were typing into the search bar "Bakugo death?". My blood felt like ice as I read the articles, people's comments, and then finally the latest manga issue. I never kept up with it, reading it here and there but mostly preferring to watch the anime and read fan fiction until more was released so I didn't have to be left with cliffhangers during these stressful arcs and moments. 'It can't be real, there's no way. The author wouldn't do that. Katsuki would let himself die like that!' My thoughts started spiraling and breathing became faster as I alternated between 'It's a lie' or 'It will be fine, someone will fix it,' and finally 'if it's true why the fuck is this hitting me so hard! He's not even real!'
A hand touching my arm and my name being called stopped the descent I was in. Looking up, my green eyes met with Cheyenne's worried hazel ones, "You all right girl? You look like you saw a ghost or something?" Shaking my head to try and snap out of it, I put on a strained smile and gathered my stuff up, standing up from your stool.
"Yeah, fine, just remembered I've got some important stuff to take care of today. I'll text you about next weekend." She opened her mouth to say something more but I was already shuffling away and making my way out the door, away from her concerned gaze. I was trembling, I realized, as I made my way back to the apartment. 'So much for my good day. Oh god…' The brisk air that once felt so good was now biting against my skin. My trembling only got worse as I continued and felt the first drop hit my nose. It made me pause and look up. The heavy grey clouds seemed to swell, bloated with water as it could finally take no more. Drops started coming down, hitting my face and rolling down my cheeks and neck. The sprinkle became heavier into a full rain shower and I realized that some of the cold drops ran hot, and some of the clean water tasted a bit salty. 'Fuck….. I am not crying over this. I'm not…' biting my lip to try and keep myself grounded I made my way back to your apartment a little faster than I had been going before. Climbing the stairs I stopped at the front door staring at the handle, willing myself to go inside. 'Take a shower, dry off, cuddle with Cheshire. You'll be fine.'
A sudden crash brought my world back to me. It was coming from inside, 'Oh god, what is Chelsea doing now.' Quickly opening the door I let myself inside. I went to strip to minimize my mess but Chelsea's screech caught my attention.
"Just die you stupid cat!"
My heart jumped to my throat as I bolted up the stairs, taking them two at a time. My door was open and hanging off the hinges, 'How in the hell did she do that,' but I had little time to process as my roommate was currently trying to take a baseball bat to my poor cat who was high up on my bookshelf.
"Chelsea, what the hell do you think you're doing?! Leave her alone you crazy bitch!" I flung myself at her trying to wrestle the wooden weapon out of the blonde's hands. She let go with one only to dig her manicured acrylics into my forearm causing me to yell out and wretch harder.
"All day long, I hear it! It drives me crazy! Meowing and moving around in here like it owns the place!" Her eyes were a bit bloodshot and her words were a little slurred, was she high or on something? I didn't know, I didn't really care. I just wanted to get my cat and get out. Today went from good to bad, to worse too damn fast for my taste.
"What the fuck! This is her room! This is my room! You knew when you moved in here there was a god damn cat you fucking psycho!" Thinking back on this moment, it was probably not a great idea to antagonize a crazy lady but my cat's life was on the line and I tend to get a little snippy under stress. Chelsea did not like my assessment of the situation letting out a shriek as she suddenly went from yanking the bat to slamming her hands and weight full force towards me, knocking my head into the wooden bookshelf. A grunt of pain left my lips and instinctually I let go of the bat to try and grab at the wound. Wrong move. Now free to do as she liked, Chelsea swung the bat and caught me hard in my left side. I heard the crack as the pain blooms bright and harsh, my sharp gasp only eliciting more agony.
"You fucking cunt." I choke out as I wrap one arm around my side, feeling like I am barely holding myself together. I don't really know if she hears me as she's already mid-swing of the bat again. Raising my left hand I try and catch the blow she's aiming for my head. The wood smacks hard against my forearm and I gasp as I feel another crack as it collides against flesh and skull. I had managed to keep the blow to my head minimal but I was pretty sure that I now had a broken arm to go along with my broken ribs. My head is swimming as I glare at the girl in front of me and roar throwing myself forward to wrestle for the bat again. The pain is immense but I push it to the side, now not only fighting for my cat's life but apparently mine as well. We both struggle for dominance and, taking a page from her book, instead of continuing to pull, I thrust forward and smash the wood against her nose making her grunt.
Unfortunately, she doesn't lose her grip as I'd hoped but seems to redouble her efforts, pushing me backward. This time, unfortunately, I trip slightly over what seems to be a broken piece of my desk chair. A quick flick of my eyes tells me she'd trashed my room but it didn't really matter at this point. I quickly yank sharply to my right with my good arm hoping to catch her off guard but instead, she flows with my movements making me overextend and seize up as I strain my broken ribs. I didn't see the first blow to the face, as she brought herself back up to standing. It knocked me back a little more and black spots danced around my vision as I watched her pull her arms back for another swing. Suddenly a ball of grey and white was on her, yowling, hissing, and spitting. Cheshire clawed and bit at the crazed blonde angrily, currently attached to her shoulder and going after her race and chest. I tried to pull myself together, reaching into the little pocket on my thigh that held my phone. 'Stupid, should have done this earlier.' I shakily died the number 9-1-1 and brought the phone to my ear as I tried to move away from the two screeching and yowling females.
"Nine one one, what's your emergency."
"Please help, my roommate has…" I didn't get to finish that sentence as suddenly, I was smacked with the bat again, knocking the wind out of me as it collided with my stomach. Staggering back, I dropped the phone as Chelsea finally got ahold of Cheshire and yanked her off by the scruff throwing her at me.
Claws gripped into my chest as the small fur ball clung to you, hissing at the blonde. I could see blood on her claws and scratches along her back where chunks of fur were missing.
"Gonna get rid of you both! Then I'll have the place to myself. Peace and quiet at last!"The blonde spat and I could faintly hear the operator yelling through the phone. Chelsea rammed into Chersire and me with the bat, knocking us backward. It seemed almost slow-motion at this point as my head cracked against another surface which cracked and broke under the pressure. I didn't feel the pain anymore. In fact, I felt weightless as my body fell through the air. Blank eyes looked up at the grey sky, rain, and blood clouding my already blurry vision. I could feel Chesh gripping my chest for dear life and I curled myself around her. Perhaps I could save her, even if I couldn't save myself. It wasn't a terribly long drop and she was a cat but still, I didn't think I was making it out of this so why wouldn't I do my best to protect the last piece of the family I had remaining on this earth? As my head impacted the ground, a bright light surrounded me as pain flashed hot and sharp through my body. A few last thoughts ran through my head. 'First Katsuki and now me? At least we're going out together. Man Cheyenne is going to be so bummed about me ditching our hangout next weekend. I wonder whom they will get to train the newbies at work now?' The image of a still and bloody blonde with red eyes flashed through my vision and then suddenly everything went black and the pain faded to nothing. All my thoughts were gone.
